I couldn't believe that working the morning rush meant that no one else was helping out, and I had to serve breakfast, tidy up and clean up, then possibly help with the afternoon rush. Nan spent most of her time just entertaining the guests, talking about the show. Everyone seemed to have watched it and wanted to know what most of the other actors were like, and she didn't hesitate to sit down, talking to them all.
As I arrived at the reception desk, just to tell mom I was going to sit down and rest before the next wave at lunch, she smiled at me, as if she knew what was about to leave my mouth.
"You're tired. Sorry. I didn't think that you would come home having to face this. Greg and Claire, and the other staff only told me the day before they planned to leave that they were leaving. I never knew before. I know it was a tremendous disappointment not graduating and getting the whole ceremony. I was so looking forward to that."
