Severed Fate

A heroic villainess, Corlissa Veronique is an anomaly herself, such a paradox is the best description of her existence. A pitiful soul forever chained to the bindings of the Villainess, she was a bug in the system, a glitch in society, a defect in the world. Memories of past lives, her own life played on repeat, that was the curse of the Villainess. Emotions never left her, she felt the suffocation of betrayal time and time again, the burning of hate, the drowning of despair, the delightful yet excruciating taste of love. Each time they turned their backs to her she felt the same emotions each and every time. It was as if she was just a marionette, obeying commands against her will as if her free-flowing string of fate that connected to her 'happily ever after' was trapped tightly in the grip of other people's hands, stretching and fraying it however they wished. She vowed to, without fail, fulfil the wishes of the previous villainess who had left the world with unmistakable anguish...and sympathy. Such empathy... "You are a person, no matter what you look like or what you do, unless you prove me otherwise I will continue to view you as who you are." Such compassion... "I wish you didn't have to suffer, I wish you could've been born into a better world." Such understanding... "Let me handle the rest, take a comfortable rest." Such selflessness... "I won't let you suffer anymore..." She truly was such an exemplary hero. --- The cover art is not mine, I found it on Google. ^^

After the entire shenanigan of Corlissa interning as a teacher for a while, they moved onto the next class, combat. The combat class was being taught by a tanned burly muscular male who had a wooden sword held in his hand.

“Since it is the start of the year and there are the new first years, like every other year we will be having a joint lesson between the third years and the first years. Not to mention we have an outlier in this class for this year. Since you’re all the third years of your division you will be tasked with obliterating their ego, now let’s get going,” he bluntly stated before making his way towards the training grounds with the class in tow.

At the training ground, the first years were lined up according to classes, Class 3-S arrived the latest and had all eyes on them the moment they entered the vicinity as they were the most respected class of their division. The first years, upon spotting Corlissa amongst the handful of renowned figures in their division, either looked at her with gazes of envy, admiration or masked hate.

“Since it is your first combat lesson in Amiere Academy, Class 3-S are here to show you the ropes and show you what you should be aiming for in your next 3 years in this division,” the burly man stated, Corlissa having found out that his name was Illinbur Bainvre.

The first years erupted into a sea of chatters, whispers, notions of awe towards seeing the famous S Class and comments of varying intentions about Corlissa.

“Each class will take turns battling Class 3-S, any magic and weapons are allowed, if you are feeling confident you can also opt for a duel, the person you wish to duel will be exempt from the class battle. We don’t care if you bring out metal swords or blades and sneak attacks or dirty play are also allowed, this academy is not soft, if an enemy were to pull a dirty attack on you in war you will have no time to complain because your head would be off your shoulders. That is all, Class 1-D you are first,”

The students of Class 1-D were all scared to fight Class 3-S but also felt honoured to be able to fight alongside them. They even held a sliver of hope that they would be able to defeat them, after all, they were nobles and Class 3-S only had 7 students in total, one of those being a first-year just like them.

Class 1-D was completely obliterated, they didn’t even have a second to react after they sent out a weak spell that was countered immediately by a brown-haired and blue-eyed girl who sent out a large scale water magic rendering the entire class of first years unconscious.

“Oops, sorry my bad. I didn’t expect them to be so fragile,” the girl commented with a silent sneer before giggling.

All the other classes looked on in fear but were also motivated to perform better than Class 1-D, though some did look completely discouraged. The class of unconscious first years slowly began regaining their consciousness, they were only knocked out for a small amount of time because the third year was holding back.

“Next is Class 1-C,” announced Illinbur Bainvre.

The class of first years stepped into the area where the battles commenced with a tense air surrounding them, some held fear in their eyes, others feigned confidence, some were ambitious and some held baseless confidence. The entire class used their magic, attacking relentlessly. Yet it was all fruitless, Class 3-S didn’t even move from their spot, after all, they weren’t a part of the S Class for nothing. All the dust that was uplifted as a result of Class 1-C’s attacks settled only to reveal 7 students all unscathed and nonchalant.

“Now then, shall we go for a counterattack?” asked one of the males of the class, reminiscent of a class president.

“Let’s show these ignorant first years the results of our 2 years here and all the training camps!” exclaimed the brown-haired girl who unleashed the attack before.

“Hey...we don’t really need to go all out do we..?” mumbled a bronze haired male.

“Loosen up a bit, Verruan! Have some fun, we don’t normally get this much freedom!” exclaimed the brown-haired girl again.

“We can just use a medium scale elemental attack,” commented a bespectacled violet haired boy who was casually dodging the various attacks sent by Class 1-C simply by moving his head.

“Okay! Then I can just carry them into the air!” a blonde-haired boy cheerfully exclaimed, readying his hand and unleashing a large gust of wind. A series of screams of terror followed soon after as the first years were lifted into the air, some even wet their pants but for their dignity, no one commented on it.

“Ah, this is getting quite boring so hurry it up with the next class,” requested Illinbur Bainvre.

Now, the slight ambition that they had within themselves was disintegrating, the only ones who still had a will to fight against Class 3-S were Class 1-S. The same routine occurred with Class 1-B, they were also completely destroyed along with their foundationless ego that was built upon no genuine credit. 1-A put up a fight, though it was not enough, Corlissa still had yet to lift a finger nor move a step despite some of the other students aiming for her.

It was finally time for the fight between the 2 S classes, however, Teacher Illinbur was already falling asleep, he got quite bored of the weak first years.

No one had yet to request a duel, however, Evie Luxiere was one to do the unprecedented and decided to request a duel with Corlissa. All the first years all had their eyes glued to their battle, after all, it was the fight between the two strongest first years, both being acknowledged by the rest of the first years for their strength.

Though Evie had only declared a duel for selfish desires, she wished to take revenge upon Corlissa after she had taken the spotlight that Evie had wanted for herself.

Both classes were cleared from the field for the 2 girls to have the battle.

“Unlike last time when we fought, I am no longer the same person. Your petty tricks that you used will no longer be able to null my light magic!” Evie declared, causing the spectators to become interested, even the rather uninterested group of spectators in Class 3-S watching in the sidelines were also drawn to the fight after hearing what Evie had said. One of the spectators was none other than the First Prince, Kinfael Demian Merillis who had taken quite a liking towards the prodigious Corlissa Veronique and her large amount of magical prowess.

“I don’t really care but if I win...give me your candies,” Corlissa demanded with a serious facial expression.

“Wha- Are you mocking me!” Evie replied in utter fury.

“No, of course not, do I really seem like a person who would do that,” Corlissa replied rhetorically.

‘Yes,’ they all collectively thought with deadpan expressions.

“I simply need some motivation to do this, I just want to go back to my room, coop up in my blankets and space out,” Corlissa continued causing everyone to stare at her in bewilderment, it’s not often that a noble would find enjoyment from such activities.

“Argh! I don’t care! Why do you need candies though?” Evie replied abruptly out of rage, the plan to keep up her act like the innocent, pure Blessed Child of God long forgotten.

“Obviously to distract me from the incessant annoyance named ‘noble children’, they truly frighten me. It’s like they stalk my every movement and nitpick me at any given time, I guess I’m popular..?” Corlissa answered, beginning her monologue of mumbling, a scowl adorning her face, despite the foul language uttered under her breath it was still able to be heard by everyone there.

“I’m not going to let you insult me further, I will teach you through actions to not underestimate me anymore!” Evie announced full of ambition cutting Corlissa’s rambling short.
