Chapter 71: The last person I thought I’d see

“I think this is it.”

On the way to Lancaster, Rafe had grilled Cara about a more exact location of the camp outside Gettysburg. After we left her in front of a small white church with an adjoining house, we began the trip to Gettysburg. It was a beautiful drive on back roads past huge farms and over gently rolling hills. If I weren’t afraid that we were heading to certain doom, I probably would have enjoyed it.

We drove through the quaint little town of Gettysburg itself and skirted the battlefield. Tall gray granite monuments peppered the land, and even though it was very early, already groups of people were meandering over the trails. Following Cara’s directions, we continued past the tourist attractions back into large open areas of farms and orchards until we arrived at the crossroad she had given us. Rafe eased the Impala to the side of the road as I closed my eyes and did a scan.
