CHAPTER 1

~In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends~

~Maya Angelou

SERAPHINA'S POV

"Alright everyone that'll do it. Let's call it a day." our gym coordinator, Miss Harrison, concluded, after torturing hours of cardio and conditioning.

"Finally, I almost thought we were going to have a bonfire ." Severina snickered, rolling her eyes. I nodded my head exhaustedly in agreement. Unfortunately, her action didn't go unnoticed by the devil incarnate and next thing you know, Miss Harrison's head snapped in our direction faster than lightning. Oh shit.

"Damnation. We're doomed, way to go Rina." I whispered to my twin. However, she wasn't looking the least bit fazed by Miss Harrison's intense glare.

"Stop being dramatic Sera, she won't do shit. She's jelly. All bark no bite." she smirked, twirling a piece of hair around her index finger.

"What was that Severila." Miss Harrison seethed. Some of our friends lowly chuckled at her provocative nickname, but typical Severina merely rolled her eyes.

"The name's Severina harry, you know S-e-v-e-r-i-n-a , not that hard for even elementary schoolers. Not that I expected more from you." Severina calmly affirmed, although saying the last part lowly, knowing it would make the situation ten times worse than it already was. Like she cares.

"Severina please take it down a notch, you're pissing her off and you know angry Miss Harrison is a different story." My warning fell on deaf ears as she was busy sheepishly grinning at Miss Harrison, whose face at this point had a striking resemblance to a beetroot.

Talk about a mother fucking routine.

"Well since we're active enough to talk, I bet we've got sufficient energy for two hundred push-ups yeah." Miss Harrison asserted with a triumphant smirk.

Saying my jaw nearly dropped to the ground would be an understatement, and as if on cue everyone started grumbling.

"This is your fault Sev.....

" I dare you to mention my name Bia, please I'm daring you." Severina hissed through clenched teeth. Bia instantly paled and cowered back.  The effect she has on people.

"Two hundred push-ups or pay Mr Harts a visit, choice is yours."  Satan's mistress glowered. Though at the mention of Mr Harts, no one dared to utter another word. Rather, people scurried off to their gym mats instead. Except for a certain somebody of course.

Mr Hart is the school's chancellor. Short and buff with jet black hair, accentuated with a few grey strands, as evidence of aging I supposed. A permanent frown is etched on his face, hence the reason he can't be nominated into the good looking department. Students avoid him at all cost. Not out of fear but rather annoyance and irritation from his constant complaints about everything and nothing. Suspension is like eye blinking to him, which made me wonder on many occasions if he genuinely wanted students in the university. I mean, who sends an entire class on a one-month suspension just because one of the students slept during lessons. The man needs serious prayers, perhaps his weird behaviour could be traceable to a lack of spirituality.

Miss Harrison, your typical definition for dramatic. Everything upsets her. Even the benches and trees in the school. She's pretty much hated for a gym lecturer which initially surprised me because logically, gym classes are students' all-time favourite in every school. But after getting to know her, that bewilderment vanished in thin air.

Two years was enough to bring me to the conclusion that Miss Harrison's the type of person you can't survive a day with, without planning countless ways to end her life. Annoying, loud, mean, harsh, savage, the list could go on forever. Hell, some students even transferred due to incapability to endure her behaviour and I'm afraid Severina would be next. "Either she leaves or I leave," she said.

I've gone as far as searching through the school's yearbooks from the nineties, with hopes of finding out anything about her in relation to mental retardation but as expected, my research was futile, my twin's a living witness. Like Mr hart, she needs serious prayers. You know, those prayers performed by priests during feasts. Miss Harrison just needs to be bottom-line rebaptized.

"I'll choose the latter." Severina's voice snapped me out of my thoughts and it took barely a second for her words to register on my mind.

" Are you stupid?" I asked with a raised eyebrow.

" oh to hell with the old hag. I'd rather report myself to Fat Harts and face the consequences than spend a second in this gym with a wretched ghost"

"Sheesh, that much hatred huh?"Kabia stated.

"I mean are ghosts even visibl...

" Don't start with me Bia. You've been testing my patience lately hun. I'm already at my breaking point and trust me no one's comfortable with seeing a deformed face so back your words if you want that prettiness  tact."

"Why do you hate me so much, Rina? I was merely messing with you." Bia huffed, massaging her temples.

"Severina to you, and hate might be a little over the top. I just detest you, for now anyway, but I love your skin tone though, so we good." She winked.

" Bella Bambina." Kabia huskily let out, giving the Italian beauty a once over. Pervert.

"I heard that." He snarled. Like I give two shits, I was too exhausted to.

"My bad." I shrugged nonchalantly. I was all about Severina and her stubborn ass at the moment.

" A visit with only one possible outcome, suspension, and you know better than anyone that neither mom nor dad takes that lightly. I suggest getting your ass on the mat and do the push-ups instead. Well, if you still want your extensions intact, capiche." I smirked in satisfaction after seeing her veins popping in anger.

"Burn," Kabia murmured under his breath.

"Phina." Severina gritted out.

"Payback's  a bitch sis, haven't your mom taught you that huh." Miskha laughed.

I couldn't contain my amusement any longer. I laughed so hard to the point where I ended up falling on the mat.

"And what in God's name are you doing sprawled on the mat like a conceiving lizard, it's a pushup, not trunks Del Varia". Saying my eardrums had a temporal shut down would be an understatement. The woman was a living amplifier.

" Picking up your frayed joggers." Severina fired.

The amusement on my face got replaced with horror in no time.

"Said something Del varia". Miss Harrison asked, but it was obvious to everyone that she was solely daring Severina to repeat what she'd said earlier.

" Yeah, I said pic...."

And she was going to fall for it!.

"Oh, uhm she was just asking me about uh the number of push-ups we should do because yeah, uh, that was what she..... wanted to know?" I cut in. Being concrete-headed, I know Severina wouldn't back down and that will only land her in more shit than she already was.

The stares I received were quite weird and unpleasant. Not that I care though, but just anything to stop the trouble magnet.

"Thought so."  With that, she went back to guiding others into much more correct positions.

"Number of push-ups, really? You couldn't have come up with a better lie than that?" Severina snorted.

This fluctuated my annoyance to the highest level.

"Severina please just ignore miss Harrison and let's get this shit over and done with, it's that too much to ask for?"

"I don't give a fuck about her Sera."

"But we do Severina. If you don't stop now, we're in for some real shit. You won't be affected but we might be. Matter of fact, we will be. We care about our grades and credits after all."  Mishka argued and I couldn't be more grateful.

"Okay, okay, fine. Geez, no drama needed. I'll quit okay, but just know that I'm still holding onto my promise of breaking her nose and shaving off her brows before passing out of this dungeon of a university." she hissed.

We looked at one another with knowing looks.

" you've got our words on that, after all, who would want to miss a Severina's payback day," I smirked.

"I can't say the same for nerdy Kimberly."  Sophia giggled, and this got us in hysterics.

"Mean." Severina chortled.

"That poor girl, I heard she cried her ass out when she got 3.94. Bruh my highest GPA was 2.92." Kabia explicated.

"Poor girl? More like a hitter. I heard Harvard already made a tag on her for masters scholarship."

"Oh boy, I would've choked her to death. My highest was 3.24." Severina sighed and I looked at her as if she'd grown two heads.

"Really? And I'm knowing this now, why?"

" Duh, probably because I didn't tell you, dummy." she retorted crudely.

"Guys miss Harrison's got five daggers headed for each of our foreheads so I say we postpone gossip yeah,"  Mishka warned. Sure enough, Miss Harrison was visibly shaking in anger. Oh damn.

" Jesus can she get any redder," Malu whispered.

"More like purple." Severina snickered.

" shhh." Mishka hushed.

"Don't shuu me." Kabia snapped.

"Yeah me t...

" oh my, can you shut your traps?" I exclaimed in frustration.

"Yes, mom."  Miskha taunted but I barely spared her an eye twitch.

"God I still can't grab this shit." Severina groaned. If she complies for once in her life, Miss Harrison will stop wearing hoodies five times her size.

"Just try Severina, you're such a couch potato." Kabia mocked.

"And you're a gym rat, deal with it." She fired back.

At this point, I've given up and just turned a deaf ear to their childish bickering.

"My spinal cord." Bia gasped, nearly making my legs buck from under me.

"I dreamt we get expelled from university today."  Kabia laughed.

"Fifty-six, fifty-seven...

" Since when." Sophia and Malu wondered in unison. I bit down hard on my lip to suppress the laughter threatening to escape.

However, Severina continued her counting, completely ignoring us, as though we didn't exist.

" let's just leave it at that,"  Sophia mumbled.

It was going to be a long-ass day.
