Chapter 28: Burning Anticiaption
Arion sat gazing at the leather-bound book on her bed. She had hardly slept that night and the day hadn’t proved much better. She had spent it either panicking that someone had found the book or trying to avoid Phinn.
All she could do was stare at the book. Arion wanted to read it, see what lay inside, but part of her was scared of what she would find. If it proved Phinn right, what then?
Arion knew that Phinn mentioned Ezekiel’s name just to upset her. It wasn’t a pleasant story that they had been told over and over again.
Ezekiel almost led his own pack to the extinction over loving a human who trusted in her family. The same family hunted and slaughtered his pack to ‘protect’ their daughter. Thus, instilling the shifter’s law to never fraternize with humans.
But then, there was a time when it wasn’t forbidden…
Maybe something inside could help her show her father how she and Owen could be together. A way to prove that the pack would never come to danger at the hand of him.
