Suddenly, a chilling sensation swept across her face - the touch of a dagger or blade, perhaps. It sent a shiver down Ming Mei's spine.
This was it; there was no escaping now.
Despairingly, she thought to herself, 'I've ruined my looks for you, Kang Chen. If you dare to reject me now, I swear I'll kill you.'
The woman cackled maniacally by Ming Mei's ear, "I'm going to mar your face so much that the very sight of you will make Kang Chen sick..."
Ming Mei clenched her teeth, waiting for the blade to fall.
But instead of the falling blade, what came next was a familiar voice.
"If I were you, I would let her go," it advised.
Hearing that voice, Ming Mei froze on the spot.
The following surge of joy was overwhelming. She could not trust her ears. If she had not been blindfolded, she would've wept with relief.
It was Shen Nie. It was his voice.
In this moment, she never thought anyone could be so endearing. Shen Nie was her saviour.
