Responsibilities

After enjoying a hearty dinner with his family, Evan Livares was alone in his room. With his phone in his hand, he was waiting for a message that wasn't coming.

While he was staring at the large screen of his phone, he suddenly received a call and he even got excited by it but... it wasn't the one he was waiting for. Nevertheless, he still picked up the call.

"What's up?" His voice was pretty blunt and it caught the one on the other line off guard.

"Suffering from a bad mood, Prince Adonis?" Colin Winsler who was on the other line was immediately back to his playful nature once he recovered from the shock.

"Stop calling me that," Evan frowned and leaned back on the backrest of his chair yet it only worked to the amusement of his menacing best friend.

"That's not what important," Colin said and adjusted his voice to sound a bit more serious than before. "You don't look at the senior chat group of the Cadet Force all day. I'm sure that you won't like what's going on."

"What's the matter?" Evan Livares promptly asked, dropping all the playfulness or moody nature.

"On our Friday meeting, we said to discuss the campaigners at the chat group because we run out of time to discuss at the meeting. The topic was brought up in the afternoon and -"

The sound of Evan sighing interrupted Colin and the latter let out a chuckle. "You already know what I mean, right?" He asked his friend.

"I clearly remember myself telling you that I won't do the campaign." Evan sighed even heavier than before. "Did you already forget what happened last year?"

Last year, Evan and Colin were still in their second year but their seniors in the Cadet Force appointed Evan to participate in the campaign when the new academic session started. Evan Livares did without complaining as he was supposed to follow the order given by the seniors as per the rule of the Cadet Force.

Nevertheless, it ended up causing quite a trouble as many girls noticed Evan and joined the Cadet Force without even really knowing about what the organization was like. They even broke the record for the most number of new enrollment because of that.

To last in an organization like the Army Cadet Force which was considered the youth wing of the army, one needed much determination and endurance. As expected, those girls who blindly joined the Cadet Force didn't last long and many of them withdrew after participating in less than three activities.

It was quite a hassle to deal with such problems and as he was partially responsible for it, Evan Livares didn't want history to repeat itself.

Recalling the troubling yet funny experience, Colin Winsler let out a chuckle. "It's not that I forgot what you tell me. The other seniors are adamant about letting you do it. You even got an unanimous vote for it."

Rubbing his head, Evan Livares sighed once again and rested the back of his head on top of the backrest. "Don't they know that they are only brewing trouble for ourselves?" He muttered.

"I understand your standing but I also understand why the other seniors want you to do it," Colin honestly said to him. "In our enrollment, you are the best with words and you don't easily get discouraged even when you stand and give a speech before a large number of people. So, you're the best choice for the campaign."

He made a deliberate pause and continued, "From the girl's side, Hannah will join you in the talking while I and the other seniors will also be there to assist you two. That means we have to wear our uniforms tomorrow."

"I know that," Evan said, responding to his best friend's last sentence. "It also means we will have to dedicate the whole day for it and we will have to skip class." He gave a quick thought and said, "You should go to school early tomorrow. Take a look at the routines of the first-year students and arrange the campaign for each section. You will have to ask the teachers to give us some time for the campaign."

"Alright. Let's hope that the new students aren't as mindless as the ones from last year," Colin jokingly said and asked, "Should I talk to Mr. Wright?"

Mr. Wright was the teacher in charge of the Army Cadet Force and it was his duty to watch over their activities.

"I think it would be appropriate for me to talk to him," Evan Livares stated, thinking of the fact that he was the highest-ranked cadet in Gledville High right now. For the rest of the academic session which was until he graduated from school, maintaining the Cadet Force of Gledville High was his duty and the other seniors were also there to help him with that.

"I will give him a call and get back to you," Evan continued while thinking of all the tasks that needed his attention. He was in no situation to be carried away like he was now.

"Fine then," Colin responded from the other line. "It will be great if you can come early tomorrow too. There are so many things to do."

"Let's do that," Evan promptly said and with that, he ended the call.

Being reminded of his responsibilities, Evan promptly called Mr. Wright and told him about the activities of the Cadet Force that were planned for the next day and also seek permission from him. Once he was done, he texted Colin to let him know that everything went well.

Evan immediately continued working on preparing materials for the campaign that would take place the next day. Though he wasn't that excited due to his bad experience, he couldn't just refuse to do it if everyone voted for him. So, he should just prepare and thought of a way to make sure that what happened last year won't happen again.

For the next hour, he was glued to his laptop and a book on the Army Cadet Force. He took notes on important points and also read the record book of Gledville High Army Cadet Force that was passed down to seniors each year. He was completely focused on the task until...

His phone went off for the second time in the night. As he was too focused on what he was doing this time, he only glanced at his phone while paying half-attention to it but... the name instantly made him forget about everything else.

It's really her this time.....
