Chapter 11

“Well?” Fletch said, staring at Amery.

“We went out to dinner at a restaurant in Watkins that a client recommended,” Amery replied, his mind racing to come up with something logical. “It was as good as he’d said, thankfully, since it was a damned long drive to get there. Anyway, we drove by the Newells’ place on the way out. Around ten, right?” He looked at Myles.

“Give or take. I got off work at nine, so yeah, that would be about right, since I had to shower and change clothes.”

“I remember there were lights on upstairs,” Amery continued.

“He made some silly comment about the idle rich who spend half their time in bed and the other half out partying, and how last night must have been an early-to-bed night for them, or sex night,” Myles said.

“Like I said, the restaurant was excellent so we took our time eating and didn’t get out of there until much later.”
