42 C39 Visiting Family

I once again ask for your power stones, and leave you with another question. If you could be reborn as any fictional character of your opposite gender with any power/ability/skill from a cartoon(anime/hentai not included), who would you pick and what cartoon power would you choose. "Your Highness!" They say in unison.

I'm starting to get the urge to laugh like a maniacal overlord, but just like always I hold it in.

"Souei, send a clone or two with my new knights to power level them in the dungeon. I want them in the 90's as soon as possible. Also, could you find them some proper clothes? They're knights now, so they need to dress the part. Maybe check the spoils from last night's excursion for anything that would fit them." I order and some Souei clones appear. They teleport my new high-rank knights away.

With everything handled, I can finally sit back and relax for a moment. I still have to convert the criminals into knights tomorrow, but for now, I need a break. I've been busy ever since I entered this city. I spend the rest of the day lazing around and reading. I read the Naruto manga that I made with book creation and some of my old school books. Lily and Leo returned before nightfall and seemed very chummy. Rem also returned with all of the prospective maids in tow. They were given rooms in the servants' quarters. I doubt they'll be fully trained for a bit though.

When I awoke the next morning, my front yard was packed with criminals in chains. I had Souei knock all of them out and work his magic. It didn't take long for all of them to be kneeling before me. Once again, I sent them off with Souei clones to be equipped and power leveled. I now have about a hundred knights in my order. With them getting power leveled, it won't be long until they're the strongest around.

I have my men pick up Anna and Dalir, and move them to the Manor for now. Anna will be my bodyguard for now until I can think of what to do with her. Dalir will be placed straight into a room with a forge, so he can hone his abilities. I can have him make the binding weapons when I buy the forging technique from the shop.

When my new order of knights is up to snuff, I'll send them out to cleanse the rest of my Duchy. I don't have the time to waste chasing criminals anyway. The only reason I got so involved in the cleansing of Sena is that I was here and it sounded interesting, but I'm not going to travel the Duchy fighting crime. That would be too tiresome.

I should probably check in on my parents. I'm surprised they allowed me to leave the palace in the first place. A quick trip to the palace via Nova, and I met with my father. He asked about my travels, and about Sena. I didn't tell him about the syndicate, as it would needlessly worry him. After a quick conversation with my dad, I leave the palace and return to my manor.

"Souei, you still have a clone guarding my mother, correct?" I ask and Souei exits my shadow.

"Yes, would you like to visit her?" He replies.

"Yeah, take me to her." I say and he teleports me inside a large lavish tent. I look around and the tent seems to be empty. Before I could leave to find my mother, she came rushing into the tent with an annoyed look.

"Stupid idiots can't even follow orders." She mutters under her breath and stops dead in her tracks. A surprised look graced her face, as she jumps at me.

"My baby!" She screams as she lifts me up into the air. I forgot how much of a hugger she is.

"Hey, Mom. I thought I'd visit." I say casually as she swings me around.

"I missed you so much!" She yells and some guards enter the room.

"Your Majesty, are you alright? Why are you..." one of the guards says, but he sees me and calms down. "I apologize for the intrusion, Mam. We'll get back to our post." He says and they leave the tent.

"How did you know where I was?" She ignores the guards and sets me down.

"I have my ways." I say mysteriously.

"Well, that doesn't matter. As long as you're here with me, then I'm the happiest mother in the world." She says as she hugs me again. I guess she was worried about me living on my own.

"So, how is the hunting of the herd going." I ask and she sighs.

"You have no idea what it's like to have to deal with high-level adventurers. They refuse to fight as a team, period. I could offer them millions of gold crowns to simply work together and they would refuse. I don't understand how some people can let their fame and power get to their heads so easily...." she went on and on complaining about this and that until dark.

"Mom, it's late. I should get back to the manor, so I can get a good night's sleep." I cut her off mid-rant.

"Why don't you sleep here, sweetheart. I'll have a maid set up a bed for you." She offers.

"Sure, but I have to leave in the morning." I agree as it's hard to turn down my own mother. We ate dinner together, and she introduced me to some of the high ranked adventurers. They weren't very respectful, so I can see why she's so annoyed with them. I don't need someone to kiss my ass, but at least show a little respect. Before leaving the next morning, my mother made me promise to visit again. Like I said it's hard to turn down your own mother.

When I got home, I let out a deep sigh. Finally, I can get down to improving the Duchy, but first I need to put together a plan. With the city in order, and my men training. I can look into what I should be doing to make the city better. Infrastructure such as roads, bridges, buildings, etc. needs to be upgraded. Just upgrading the roads will cause a boom in the trade of the Duchy. Reliable roads would lessen the travel time of merchants and soldiers alike.

As for upgrading the intellect of my citizens, public schools are the way to go. Private schools already exist, but they cost a lot of money or they only accept Nobles. With public schools and mandatory education for all children, I'm hoping to raise the intelligence of my citizens dramatically. As for sanitary upgrades, I would need to figure out a sewage system, and possibly running water in every home. I'll have to look into that. I should also look into the way crops are grown. Do they use crop rotation or fertilizer? Have they learned about selective breeding to get the best yield? Peaking of selective breeding. How far along are they in animal husbandry?

These are the things that I have to look through and plan ahead of time. Practicing my occlumency I look for any books, articles, shows, and anything that could help me with upgrading the Duchy. My skill in occlumency isn't that high, so I'm sure this will take a while.
