The Supreme Mage and The Supreme Swordsman

After all that confusion, everyone was a little sad, it's as if a celebrity had passed away.

The Supreme Mages' burial would be in Skylar, so there was no chance of me seeing his face.

After a few days, I asked my father what being a Supreme Mage or Swordsman was all about.

"Being a Supreme Mage or Swordsman means being the pinnacle of strength, only the strongest can hold this title. They protect and defend our land, no matter how strong the enemy is." He said.

It wasn't as technical an answer as I would have liked, but it served as an introduction to the subject.

From what I understand, these positions serve to appoint the strongest.

While searching for information in books, I found something more detailed about these positions.

The Supreme Mage is the position in which the Union of Kingdoms appoints a wizard to be the representative of all wizards from all countries. He does not have an army or territory to defend, he defends everyone. The same thing happens with the Supreme Swordsman.

Both positions have a certain political influence, as they can influence the geopolitics of the world.

Basically, they are the pillars that keep the world from falling apart.

But it seems they can't defend everything, as the continent of the Badlands and half of Lightning Rift are in the possession of criminals.

Apparently, even for the strongest, there is a limit...

A week has passed since then and while William, Hera and I were strolling through the kingdom, some newsboys run past throwing newspapers into the air.

"Extra! Extra! The Union of Kingdoms decided this morning on the new Supreme Mage!" One of them says while throwing the newspapers.

Picking up a newspaper on the floor, it says:

[It was decided! Zoe Ethy is named the new Supreme Mage!]

[The young 18-year-old girl, who recently graduated from the prestigious Skylar Academy of Magic, is chosen as the new Supreme Mage!]

Tsc, 18 years old and already an emerald-level adventurer and Supreme Mage?

It seems like I'm going to have to make an effort, even though I'm from another world.

I can't help but suppress the smile on my face with a defiant look...

"Mom, William, I've made up my mind, I'm going to be the next Supreme Mage!" My speech with determination leaves them surprised.

William should have already known about the existence of these positions, but it is surprising that he already had this determination.

A month has passed since then. Me, my brother, and Katerine continued training as usual.

"If you're going to be the Supreme Mage and William is going to be the Supreme Swordsman, what am I going to be?" It's a good question that Kate asked me.

Well, there actually isn't a special category for the strongest fighter, so I guess he falls into the mage category.

"If you don't fight with a sword, then you will be a warrior who fights using magic; therefore, you are a mage." I said.

"Sometimes you say things that I don't understand at all..." She said.

"What I mean is, if you want to be Supreme Mage, then let's be rivals." I spoke.

Katerine after that, became more excited.

I think her competitive spirit made her more determined.

Another event was the public reaction to the appointment of Zoe Ethy as Supreme Mage.

The ancient Supreme Mage, Karmes, used Fire Magic, and used his staff to fight. Zoe, on the other hand, only uses her hands.

She is a fighter, just like Katerine.

However, many people have been criticizing the Union of Kingdoms' decision for having placed someone who cannot even be said to be a mage.

Others criticize her for being too young and inexperienced, but something similar happened with the Supreme Swordsman, Kalos. He was recommended very young for the position, and he was appointed when I was born.

I heard that she was already known to the public, but at no point did I hear anything about her magic. The only thing I know is that she was the best student in the last 74 years, so I think the position is in good hands.

Another fact is that she is, so the elves didn't like it at all, as they are known to be a reference when it comes to powerful mages.

But it's a little ironic to think that the strongest Swordsman is an elf and the strongest Mage is a human. It's as if the values were reversed.

During this month, we also played catch the flag.

This game didn't exist in this world, so I had to explain all the rules, I had to adapt some rules because of the magic.
