The New Training

When we arrived at the village, the coachman left us at the entrance and turned around with his horse.

Soon after, the residents came out of their homes to welcome us back.

William and I told him everything that had happened in the last few days. They were obviously shocked by what we had experienced.

"You came back!" Katerine sees me in the distance and runs towards me with open arms.

I just smile back at her, but it looks like she won't stop!

Katerine then jumps on top of me and hugs me, making me fall to the ground with her.

"You should have taken me along!" She exclaims.

"You're still too much of a child..." I reply as I pull her off of me.

"That's not fair!"

I told Kate what had happened while the villagers were organizing a breakfast in the field near the village.

They took a big table and laid out bread, hot drinks, cakes and fruit, all for free.

What they didn't know is that my family had already eaten before, including me, so we had to push more food even though we weren't hungry...

The rest of the day was peaceful and serene. We went home and rested, as usual. I went back to reading a history book while the others did other activities.

In fact, I discovered the year this world is in: 1028, this is the number that is considered in current calendars. One thousand and twenty-eight years have passed since the creation of the Union of Kingdoms, that's when they started counting, but a lot had already happened before, like the Great War and the War of Power. The Union of Kingdoms was created 36 years after the Great War; as a way to represent the new era, they began counting the years.

Lately, I've been trying to read more diverse books since I know practically everything about the theory of magic...

(William Rods POV)

A week has passed since I was in the castle, and today, Clarday, the first day of the week, I'm going to have my first sword training!

This is one of the rare times that I go to the kingdom alone, I usually go with my brother or my mother. It's even a little lonely...

I left home a little late, so it's likely that I'll come home in the dark...

The sun is still up, but it will soon start to set.

Arriving in the kingdom, I saw the streets busy with some carts passing by—nothing different from the ordinary.

When I try to enter the castle, one of the guards standing next to the barred gate looks at me.

"You can't come in here, little one." He says with a deep voice coming out of his helmet.

"I came here because of a matter with Yanma." I say.

"The captain?" He expresses some surprise. " Only a moment." He goes to the other guard on the other side of the gate and whispers something in his ear.

After listening to what he had to say, the guard opens the gate and enters the castle.

The knight who spoke to me returns to his starting position and says nothing.

The guard who passed through the gate enters the castle and disappears from my vision.

After some time, the guard returns.

"You may come in." He says as he holds the gate for me.

"Serious?" The other guard looks at me and mutters.

Entering the castle, I head to the training area where I went days ago and see Yanma.

"I had some trouble getting in." I say.

"It's okay. When you come here more often, they won't even hesitate." She responds.

"By the way, is this time ok?" I ask.

Her schedule must be busy, so I decided to come in the afternoon so as not to disturb her.

"Well, my shift ends at five in the afternoon, so you're right on time." She says smiling.

"Okay, so shall we begin?"

"Yes. But first, I wanted to make two things clear." She says. "First, I decided to train you because of your potential that you showed in our battle, but if you don't live up to my expectations, I won't continue with it." She speaks. "Second, I'm not going to teach you anything about magic because I don't know anything about it. But, I'm going to teach you everything I know about sword fighting, the magic is up to you." She adds.

My goal was exactly to train my swordsmanship. If I want to learn something about magic, Light will teach me.

"Understood!" I answer.
