Seeing the stiff face in front of her getting more red by the second, as if the man in front of her was bottling up his emotions, Emma felt she had caught him off guard and now it was proven that he did pity her.
She wouldn't mind being pitied by anyone as she had lived her life as Emma in pity and sadness, but she at least hoped this one would be different.
Even if the same thing would occur, she doesn't want it with this man.
The thought of it just doesn't sit well with her.
Max was dumb struck.
The more she uttered those words, the more his guilt burn him from the inside.
If he had been able to protect her, she won't think this way.
Maybe if he had no power to prevent it, it would be understandable, but the people behind this are fries on his table.
The risk with those fries is not knowing when they will strike and if it would be too late to clean then off his plate.
