14 Fortune favors the bold (VI)

Lu Ting looked at everyone in the room. Their confused and shocked faces told him that they were not expecting him to implement the Successor Selection. Except for Fu Yixiao, she seemed uninterested in the whole thing. Lu Ting sighed. He had obviously stated that he already chose Fu Yixiao to be his successor however, the elders of the Lu family and the board of directors at Lu Corporation have questioned his decision. Some were openly against him. Therefore, he finally agreed to implement the Successor Selection.

The system wasn't implemented during his time for all the elders and board of directors in the past had wholeheartedly chosen him as the successor. Hence, he had no idea how difficult the selection would be. He could only hope that her indifferent granddaughter would succeed and chosen as the sole inheritor of the Lu family's wealth and prestige.

"Cousin, are we really going to implement the Successor Selection?" Lu Bei who was unable to contain his curiosity hurriedly asked. Lu Ting nodded. "Yes. The situation couldn't be avoided for the elders and the board of directors are divided in their opinions regarding this matter." Lu Ting explained.

"But grandpa, I heard that you had chosen little sister Fu as the successor?" Lu Jing who was quiet all this time finally spoke. Fu Yixiao glanced at his direction and met his gaze. A sinister smile appeared on Lu Jing's face, he was trying to scare her. Fu Yixiao chuckled as she shifted her look to Lu Ting causing the man seethed in a rage with her collected manner.

"Yes, I have chosen her for she had gone through an intense training under my wife's guidance." Lu Ting affirmation shocked everyone present. They had an unreadable expression in their faces, yet, at times they threw a malicious look toward the girl sitting on a chair next to a fireplace.

Fu Yixiao could only laugh at their action. Hmm, let me play with them! She chuckled. Soon, she yawned and walked toward Yun Xi who sat beside her grandpa. Yun Xi opened her arm as she embraced her. "Grandma, Xiao er feel sleepy, " She said, yawning.

Yun Xi was startled with Fu Yixiao affection, however, she recalled that this is how she was in the past. Whenever she felt sleepy she would come to her room demanding her to read a book or sing a lullaby. Yun Xi let out a sigh of relief. She was afraid to see her sudden change in attitude and felt that she was no longer the person she knew. Still, at this moment all her worries had been washed away.

"Do you want grandma to read you a book or sing a song?" Yun Xi asked. Her fingers stroke her soft hair. "Xiao er's no longer a child. " Fu Yixiao pouted; inviting laughter from her grandpa who was quietly watching from the side. "Grandpa, can we adjourned the meeting. Xiao er want to sleep. Xiao er doesn't want to look like a panda tomorrow morning." She said coyly.

Lu Ting felt an indescribable warmth in his heart. His granddaughter's attitude really made him happy as he repeatedly nodded.

"I believe everyone must feel sleepy. I have two announcements to make; tomorrow my wife and I will fly to City M for some matters. We will be back two days later. Second, let's welcome Xiao er to this family. She had gone through a lot, so don't create trouble for her." He said and then gestured his hand telling everyone to leave.

Fu Yixiao was thankful by her grandfather's concern, however, she knew that the path she took would only attract hatred from others.

At least tonight their reactions to her 'performance' were not disappointing. They were completely stunned! Especially Lu Mei, her mouth was agape even till she disappeared from her line of sight. Lu Jing's face was grimed but he was really good at hiding his emotion. Fu Yixiao silently cheered.

"Grandpa, grandma, Xiao er bid you goodnight!" She said, her coy attitude was replaced with her calm, indifferent look. Lu Ting and Yun Xi nodded as they walked her to the elevator. "Xiao er, grandpa and grandma will leave early tomorrow. Please take care of yourself. If there's any problem, please don't hesitate to call us." Fu Yixiao smiled in understanding. Then, she once again wished them goodnight as she entered the elevator with Liling.

Liling had been watching and analyzing her young miss since the first time she entered the mansion. She was really beautiful, in fact, she might be the prettiest lady in the Lu family or on a larger scale, the most beautiful in city Z. She couldn't tell what was in her mind because of her unpredictable behaviors and attitudes. There is one thing she was sure of in which, her young miss was not someone anyone could toy with.

"Liling, make sure to wake me up early tomorrow morning." Fu Yixiao reminded her personal maid while resting her head on the pillow. "Sure Miss," Liling answered as she tucked the blanket closer to Fu Yixiao's body. "Hmm, you may leave now." Fu Yixiao said as she closed her eyes. Liling walked out of the room quietly, afraid that the sound of her steps would distract her young miss' peaceful sleep.

Fu Yixiao opened her eyes once she heard the bedroom's door closed. She was assessing today's matter inside her mind. She noticed that her new world was not all glitters, there were monsters lurking everywhere, waiting to consume its prey. Still, she knew that there would be no silver linings without a cloud.

What should I do about the Successor Selection? She thought. She was confident that she was one of the candidates. Honestly, she wasn't interested in the Lu's wealth and prestige but she wanted to enjoy the competitive nature of climbing the social ladder. At the same time, she wished to explore this foreign world. To achieve those goals, she needed power however, in her current situation, she was powerless. She needed her own army; people that she could rely on and trust with her own life.

"It seems that I can't avoid the Successor Selection," She muttered to herself. Well, fortune favors the bold. That's what she always believe. A determination rose in her heart when finally, she came to a conclusion. "I'll do it and when I did, I will do it grandly." She whispered and her voice faded in the darkness.
