Chapter 33
That’s the way the legal system works. The victims suffer at the expense of the criminals.
“It’s alright, you’re okay. Breathe Skylar, just breathe,” Quinn soothes when Skylar is finally released from the stand and they quickly escape the courtroom. Skylar is in full blown panic by that time. Quinn steers him down the hall and away from prying eyes to sit on a bench at the end of an empty corridor. Their friends hang back, giving Skylar space and making sure he has the privacy he so desperately needs right now.
Skylar either can’t hear Quinn or isn’t able to calm himself enough to be able to follow his advice. He continues to heave, gasping and crying and looking like he’s about to pass out.
He is about to pass out.
Quinn grabs Skylar’s hands and places them on his own chest before cupping Skylar’s face to get his attention.
