Chapter 6

I went back into the house to wake Sarah up.

"Sarah, wake up. Sarah!"

I felt bad doing this, but I had no choice.

"Master?"

Sarah opened her eyes, she looked confused and not fully conscious yet. But I quickly spoke up.

"I have to leave for a while, I saw a lot of ships sailing towards the southern part of the island."

"Eh? Right now? Do you really have to go?"

Sarah looked worried.

"Yeah, I'll leave my two shadows here to look after you. Oh, and... you can go back to sleep."

Sarah looked like she still wanted to say something, but she held back. She understood that I had to go.

"Alright, Sarah. I'll be going, I promise I'll be back soon."

Without further delay, I summoned my armour and immediately ran at full speed towards the southern part of the island with my shadows.

-----

Because the terrain was filled with swamps, it took me a long time before I reached the southern coast.

From a distance, I could see many people on the beach, it looked like they were fighting each other?

I got closer to get a better look, and I was wrong.

It turned out that they weren't fighting each other, but they were fighting some kind of monster that looked like a human.

Except they had fins, scales, big eyes, and sharp teeth coming out of their mouths.

What the devil were they? Fish monsters? But why do they have humanoid figures?

It looks like the people who boarded the ship earlier were chased by these monsters.

I don't know who they are, but at least they don't look like pirates.

They're wearing clothes made from animal skins, so I'm guessing they're probably from a certain tribe.

After all, there are several islands in the Bosias Archipelago that are inhabited by indigenous tribes.

I don't know much about the tribes in the Bosias Archipelago, so I don't know where they came from.

"Well, I might as well help them."

They looked overwhelmed.

They weren't going to lose, but if I didn't help them, they might lose a lot of people.

I threw my spear at one of the fish monsters that was trying to attack a woman.

My spear hit the monster in the chest and killed it on the spot.

I lost my spear, and summoned it back.

This way, I didn't have to worry about losing my weapon. What a convenient power I have.

The attack made both sides realise my presence.

I revealed myself from behind the trees.

The tribesmen looked afraid and wary, probably because they weren't sure if I was an enemy or an ally.

With the appearance of my armour, it's only natural that they think I'm some kind of monster.

But unlike them, the monsters that saw me were even more violent, they all charged towards me, realising that I was a more dangerous threat than the tribesmen.

About a dozen of them charged straight at me at once.

They were fast, even though their legs had fins, but they could still run very fast on land.

If I was still as strong as I was when I first arrived on this island, I probably wouldn't have had a chance to defeat them.

Unfortunately for them, I was much stronger than I was back then.

Before they could reach me, I told my shadow to get out of the trees, and they clashed instantly.

Sharp claws and iron clashed against each other.

"Man, they're a lot stronger than I thought."

They could fight my shadows evenly, but my shadows had the advantage in numbers, so I didn't think it would be long before they fell.

In the midst of that battle, I felt something from under the sand.

"Oh... So they can move in the sand as well, eh?"

They were rather clever, I guess they realised that I was the leader.

My hunch was right, so I jumped back to dodge.

Right where I was standing just now, one of the monsters jumped out from under the sand and tried to attack me.

I caught the monster right in the throat.

He was fast, but not fast enough.

"What are you?"

I never knew these monsters existed, and so far, they were the worst monsters I'd ever seen, in terms of looks.

I'd never even heard of them from a fairy tale, so I asked, considering this thing was pretty smart.

"Kyakckhh"

But all I got in response was a horrible screech and a horrible fishy smell.

"Looks like you're not smart enough to talk."

I impaled it with my spear, then used it as my flame late meal.

Despite being outnumbered, the monsters put up such a strong fight that I was forced to intervene to speed up the fight.

If I hadn't intervened, it might have taken an hour to kill them all.

After killing them all, I ordered my shadow to gather them up, and set them on fire.

As I let my flames devour the corpses of the monsters, I looked back to see what was happening with the tribesmen.

I noticed they were tending to their wounded while I was fighting, which is why I didn't see them helping.

I didn't mind, though. They looked very tired, and most of them were injured.

They wouldn't have been much help if they had been in the fight.

A few of them suddenly walked up to me, and I guessed that one of them was the leader.

Why would I know that? He was wearing a robe that was bigger than the others.

"..."

He stopped in front of me and started talking, but I couldn't understand anything he said.

I really regret not learning a foreign language when I was given so many books to read at home, damn it.

"Do you speak imperials?"

I interrupted him, he was surprised, but he nodded.

"Yes, Sir. But not very fluently."

"Good, then speak in the imperial language."

"Yes, Sir. My name is Harald Magnus, I am the chief of the Magnoras tribe. May I know your name, sir?"

"Abelart, I am the lord of this island."

I emphasised the word "Lord" of this island to let them know who they were dealing with.

The old man looked surprised, he probably didn't expect that this island already had an owner.

But he was smart, knowing that I was the owner of this island, and stronger than them, he changed his tone to be more polite, although it was already polite enough.

"Lord Abelart, may we stay on your island? We are willing to pay tribute to you if you let us stay."

As I suspected, they weren't lost, they had deliberately come to this island to find a place to live.

"Before that, why don't you tell me what made you take the trouble to come to this island? Are you a nomadic tribe?"

The chief shook his head.

"No, sir. We were driven out of our village, so we were forced to go to this island, Azrael island."

Azrael Island, huh? I didn't know this island had a name. As far as I know, Azrael is the name of the angel of death, right? From the name, I guess this island is known as a dangerous island.

I still want to ask more, but I guess that can wait until tomorrow.

They were too tired to talk, there was also my promise with Sarah.

"Alright, I can let you stay on my island. But as you said earlier, you have to pay tribute. You don't need to pay me with gold or money, I need food. Like Meat, spices, vegetables, or something like that. In return, I will give you a piece of land in a safe place and I will also protect you from monsters or anything that may threaten your tribe. Do we have a deal, chief Harald?

I removed my armour and extended my hand to him.

His tense expression instantly changed when he saw me, perhaps he was glad I was also a human.

He rubbed his chest in relief and shook my hand.

"Thank you, Lord Abelart. We won't let you down."

He didn't even think and just accepted my proposal, eh? He must've been so desperate.

"Good, take all your stuff that's still left on the ship. I will escort you to the place where you will be staying."

With that, the population on my island increased.
