She refused decisively.

Dr. Garcia had tampered with her and Jack's paternity test last time, and she held a grudge against him. Why would she let him examine her?

John's face darkened, and he stared at her with sharp eyes. "It must be checked."

Jane frowned. "What if I'm pregnant?"

John paused for three seconds. "Abort it."

Even if she were pregnant, she didn't expect to carry it to term. After all, she had been taking a lot of medication lately to suppress her cough, and her body condition wouldn't allow her to wait until the baby was born. But when she heard John's firm words, her heart still felt a pang.

"I'll get checked, but not here." She picked up her bag and ran out.

Dr. Garcia hurried after her. Jane stood in front of the elevator, pressing the down button with a stern face. Dr. Garcia stood beside her, his eyes blazing, his hands pounding on his side. Suddenly, he grabbed her arm. "Miss Jane, Mr. John ordered me to examine you. Come with me."

She had terrifying strength.

Jane couldn't shake him off and her face turned pale. Just then, the elevator door opened and a few people walked out. She immediately shouted, "Help, the unethical doctor wants to steal my kidney."

Her shout made Dr. Garcia's face even uglier. Under everyone's suspicious gaze, he let go of her hand, and Jane took the opportunity to run into the elevator and close the door.

After leaving St. Mary's Hospital, her heart was still pounding erratically. She had a feeling that if Dr. Garcia caught her, it would not end well.

Just as she drove out of the hospital gates, John's call came through. His harsh voice immediately sounded on the other end, "Jane, what do you mean?"

"What do you mean?" Jane frowned.

"You should know that we are already divorced, and you are not worthy of having my child." John's voice was hard and cold, dripping with ice.

Jane bit her lip. "Don't worry, I'm going to get a check-up now. If I'm really pregnant, I will arrange for the surgery without hesitation."

With that, she hung up the call with a fierce determination.

She registered for a visit at the City First Hospital, and the urine test showed that she was pregnant. The blood test results would take four hours to come in, but the urine test result was enough for her.

The doctor asked her as part of the routine, "Are you going to have an abortion or keep the baby?"

Sitting at the desk, she felt momentarily dazed, her hand resting on her stomach. The excitement of her first pregnancy still fresh in her mind. The hospital was crowded with people waiting in line, and the doctor urged her, "If you want to keep it, I'll give you two boxes of folic acid to start taking. If not, you'll need to check your body and schedule the appropriate time for the abortion."

She slowly came to her senses and whispered, "Abort."

The doctor nodded, "I'll notify you of the time once the blood test results come out."

As she left the hospital, she felt empty inside and inexplicably sad. The life of a small being had been decided by the few words exchanged between adults.

In the afternoon, instead of going to St. Mary's Hospital, she drove around for half the city and arrived at George Hayes' detective agency.

The agency was located on an inconspicuous old street, with a sign that read "Polaris Detective Agency." She knocked on the door, but it opened automatically. Inside, the lighting was dim, and there was the sound of clacking keys.

She walked in, feeling puzzled, and saw a man with headphones on and no shirt, playing video games. He didn't notice her for quite some time after she entered.
