Chapter 9

Layla: Have you tried to contact Law?

Ash: He wasn't joking when he said he was erasing all contact possibilities between me and him.

Layla: Sigh. I'll try to find him. You just make sure to stay safe.

Ash: Right…

Layla walked out of the office in a panic rush, and Ash just dropped the body of the instructor onto the floor.

Leon: So who's this Zero guy?

Ash: One of the worst criminals out there. Or he was I suppose? I don't know. Law supposedly killed him 4 years ago. Zero and Law were pretty much rivals in childhood. Your generic type rivals. They were competing to see who'd be the strongest bounty hunter, but Zero realized he would never surpass Law and just went into the criminal world in search of immeasurable power.

Leon: So why would the snow witch tell you to stay safe specifically?

Ash: Because I'm Law's student. So if Zero wants to get back at Law in some way, I would be his best target besides Law himself.

Leon: You're Law's student!?

Ash: Oh get over it, we have work to do.

Leon: Like…?

Ash: Find Zero before he finds us.

Ash walks out the room, leaving Leon with the body.

Leon: Of course, why wouldn't we hunt the guy who's hunting you. Genius idea, Ashton.

Leon let out a heavy sigh and walked out the door to follow Ash.

Leon: So what's your plan to find this guy?

Ash: Hmmm… No clue.

Leon's eye twitched at Ash and he then proceeded to stay silent for the rest of the walk.

Ash: Ah, I got an idea.

Leon: And that is…?

Ash: Leon, do me a favor and go grab the instructor's body. I'm gonna go meet up with Layla somewhere to talk to her about something. Meet me right outside the gates to this area.

Leon sighed once more and nodded his head. The two parted ways. Ash opened up his phone and texted Layla. About 10 minutes later, he made it to the agreed upon location to tell Layla about his plan.

Ash: So you remember how Zero never used an actual sword, but a mana blade instead?

Layla: Yeah, why?

Ash: Do you think you could trace the mana traces from the blade off the instructor to its source, where Zero would be?

Layla: I might be able to.

Ash: For now that's our only hope of finding him-

Layla: Are you stupid!? You're taking absolutely no part in this hunt for Zero. He'd kill you in less than a second, Ash!

Ash looked down at the ground in silence and just walked away without giving a response.

Layla: Sigh. I'll use your plan, and you'll be one of the first to know how it turns out.

Ash perked up and spun around super quickly.

Ash: You mean it?

Layla: You have my word.

Ash walked away with a slight smile on his face. Layla also walked away but with more worry than she initially carried.

Layla: Why the hell would I promise him that… Oh, right, I should probably go back to HQ to grab the body.

Back at the gates, Leon was sitting with the body of the instructor, waiting for Ash and Layla.

Leon: How much longer are they gonna be…

Ash came into Leon's field of vision and Leon stood up to wave at him.

Ash: Hey, Layla should be here any minute.

Layla: I already am here.

Layla hopped over the fence and landed next to the body. She immediately began doing her best to track Zero using the mana traces left behind.

Leon: So, what kind of blessing does Zero have?

Ash: He's a dual blessing wielder. He has an Observation blessing and a Spatial blessing.

Leon: B grade and AA grade… He sounds pretty strong.

Ash: Yeah, but compared to Law, a tri-blessing wielder? He's practically a child.

Leon: Law is a tri-blessing!?

Layla: Ash, you're an idiot.

Ash: Ah, right. He was trying to hide that from the public. The world only knows him as a light blessing user. Leon, forget I said anything.

Leon sat in silence. He was shocked at the fact Law would hide something like that about himself.

Layla: I got a trace on the mana I think!

Ash and Leon both looked over to Layla, but her face wasn't one of happiness. It was fear.

Layla: Ash! Leon! Both of you leave this area now!

Ash: What-

Zero: Now, now, snow witch, don't spoil the fun.

Zero immediately used his spatial blessing to close Leon and Layla off in their own little boxes of space.

Layla: Shit. Ash, run!

Zero closed another bit of space off, making a small battle arena for himself and Ash.

Zero: Now, student of Law, let's see how he has taught you.

Zero took out the dagger that the cowardly kid had, which was the dagger that Beelzebub was contained in.

Ash: You've got to be kidding me…

Asmodeus: Ash, he's way out of your skill range to fight-

Ash: I'm aware. He has a 9 star ki core, and his mana is off the charts. Plus the dagger containing Beelzebub. Today just really isn't my day…
