SCHISMA

Thomas' life has never been a fortunate one. Always as if submerged in thick, black ink he has hazily drifted from one place to another. While investigating an old church ruin he and his colleagues stumble upon a cult in the middle of a sinister ritual, one that has to be stopped. To their dismay however they were too late, unable to disrupt the ritual Thomas makes a desperate attempt to kill the priests along with himself, but before he knows it he is sucked into a portal, inside the void, to meet his end. What he meets there though is something entirely different. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Content Warning: Blood, Gore, Horror, Sexual Abuse, Torture - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Disclaimer I do not claim to own the piece used as the cover or any rights associated with it. Doubt, Deceit and a wonderful Landscape

*Bump Bump*, sounded the rails of the train as it elevated itself, being prepared to start crossing the mountainous terrain. "Fuck!" said Alexander with surprize to water spilling on his yellow shirt, "Well, it's pretty hot so I don't mind." he continued while pushing back his brown hair putting down a, now empty, glass.

"Oh wow, what a gloomy bunch you are", he declared his disappointment to the rest of his companions, who were all now silently occupying themselves with different things.

Thomas was looking out the open window of their cabin, taking in the scenery of the countryside. Vast fields of wheat covered as far as the eye could see, lands filled with shining golden rays filled his olive-green eyes.

He turned around slowly, but no words seemed to escape his lips. - What is Alex trying to do? - he thought. They weren't there to have fun, and even if they weren't currently working none of them was on friendly terms with another.

John was their superior, an elite enforcer under the command of the Administration, he had way too many responsibilities to get soft with them and they were too unreliable of personalities to reveal any of his cards to, especially Isabella.

Isabella was officially declared missing, she was originally supposed to have been executed, 'euthanized', as punishment for her crimes. She had driven a whole school to near insanity, trapped approximately seven hundred people, and forced them to kill each other for her enjoyment, while she streamed the whole thing on social media. She was a sociopath. She made headlines everywhere around the world, but ironically enough while everyone was screaming for her death she made a deal with the heads of the Administration the details of which Thomas would never know.

He himself was rather a shady figure, his past was almost nonexistent, no relatives, no records of any kind before he randomly showed up out of nowhere at an orphanage when he was eleven. The place that had saved him, and the place that had destroyed any hope he might have had for a normal future.

But the most dangerous person amongst them was Alexander, raised in the same institution as him, he showed 'talents' that secured him a favorable treatment in contrast to the majority of the children that lived there. Even now he had more control of the situation than John would want to admit.

Their assignments were issued directly by the Church and Alexander's rank was suspiciously high to be involved in dangerous situations like these.

What John wasn't aware of was that if the Church had destroyed Thomas, it had completely erased Alexander. Thomas knew it too well, everything he did was supposed to mislead them, his actions, his words, his expressions. In reality, he was nothing but a drone completely uncaring and cruel. One short command would be all it took for him to turn this 'lively' situation into a bloodbath, no one would escape, not just Thomas and the other two.

Thomas didn't know how much John and Isabella knew, but they were too careful around Alexander, obsessively so. They all kept conversation with him to a minimum. Of course, Thomas couldn't completely distance himself from him as John did, nor could he fabricate his whole personality like Isabella. He had grown up alongside him, had he not turned into what he was at his moment Thomas could have viewed him as a brother. They had spent cold nights and meals together. Even while the world around them was swirling in horror they had stuck together to survive. He had let that man, Theophanis, defile and brutalize him to keep Alexander safe. That was until a certain quality of his was revealed. After that, it was as if a landslide had stolen Alexander away from him forever.

"You should sit down Alexander, we're passing on higher ground there's going to be a lot of turns" a faceless response that came from John and broke Thomas' and Alexander's locked gazes.

"Look, it's getting to the best part!" said Isabella as she laid down, her back on John's thighs. She lifted a device that showed her, in the same dress she wore two days ago, in front of a man bound to a chair with bloodstains on his shirt. She leaned in to whisper something in his ear and without warning and in a sudden burst of movement she cut his fingers. But the man didn't shout, he just lifted his tear-filled face to utter two names, before he fainted.

John didn't know what to think of this. Was this woman really showing this to him for entertainment, or was she doing this to threaten him? In the past year he had spent with this group of people he had become paranoid, he couldn't even trust his own thoughts anymore. As he thought this he decided he would plead to be transferred as soon as possible. He would do anything to get away from this trio.

A person so intelligent and twisted that even the abyss would shudder at her sight, an angel-like demon more of an enemy than your worst fear, and a pitch-black ghost almost ready to fade out of existence once you glanced in another direction.

He had tried his best, but in the end, it was too much for him to handle alone.

The sun started to set and the waves of silence surrounded them as if trying to drown them under their intensity.

I meant to put out the first two chapters together but it seems I clicked to publish instead of saving on the first one, lol
