The tension only escalated as within minutes of being back at the table Kade appeared with a scowl. There was no doubt in my mind that it had everything to do with the conversation he had just had with his uncle.
“Sorry about the wait, we had a lot to catch up on.” Kade apologized, sitting down next to me. There was certain coldness to his voice that I had never heard from him before.
“Are you okay?” I questioned, pretending I had no idea what had just transpired only a few rooms away.
Kades eyes flicked to mine, his eyes faltering.
“Why wouldn't I be?” he said, forcing a more pleasant look on his face.
“Oh, I don't know. I guess you just look stressed,” I stated with a shrug.
Kade could lie all day long, but I had heard that conversation. It was a rough one. It was written all over his face that he was beside himself.
