NATURE RELEASE

There seems to be a lot of confusion as to how nature release works because fics love to add original characters that have ALL affinities.

This is NONSENSE if that was true congratulations you are an Otsutsuki. Spam truth seeking balls all day.

This isn't to say you can't master all nature releases though. Hiruzen mastered all of them!

To elaborate:

Shinobi have an easier time learning to create and control a chakra nature that matches their affinity. Shinobi are not limited to the nature they have an affinity for though, and it is in fact common for jonin to have mastered two natures. This does not mean they have an affinity for two natures though.

Although again it is possible to master all five natures, it is very rare because of how much of training is required.

Shinobi capable of using all five natures include Hashirama Senju, Tobirama Senju, Hiruzen Sarutobi, Orochimaru, Mū, Kakashi Hatake, and Victor (in the anime) are the only shinobi known to have done so via normal means.

AFFINITY

Normal ninja only have one affinity.

In the anime, it is stated that those with the ability to combine the elemental nature transformations possess an affinity for the chakra natures they must simultaneously use. This is the only way to have multiple affinities!

So by using two or three basic nature transformations simultaneously, one can create a completely new elemental nature with unique properties that wouldn't exist on its own. This is what defines a nature release kekkei genkai or, if three elements are used, a kekkei tōta.

For example the first nature kekkei genkai we ever see, Ice Release. It is the combination of having water and wind affinity to allow the creation of ice naturally without much effort on the users part.

This is canon!

The only exception being that you can simulate kekkei genkai by using scientific principles.

For example Sasuke can simulate both ice and boil release. It's stated he does this through SCIENCE!

By moving the molecules closer together, he can change the water into ice. By moving the molecules further apart, he can change the water into steam.
