Chapter 16- Roaring Sports Festival

Time passed quickly, and soon it was the first day of the festival. I roll out of bed, lazily stretching as I make my way to the kitchen.

"Ku! Do your best out there!" Her sweet smile would give any other teen reassurance.

'Lose and I'll beat your ass.'

<Right. I'm going to leave.>

"But you haven't eaten!"

<I'll be fine.>

"I made coffee jelly!"

<Fine, I'll eat.>

The crowds outside of UA reach seemingly around the whole country, the security taking no chances as the viewers enter. I teleport straight inside, not bothering with security. The thoughts of the people flood into my mind, making me dizzy for a moment.

"Hey, are you ok?" Kirishima asks, confused at my sudden appearance but unshaken, nonetheless.

<Yeah, these people are just so loud.>

"Huh?" Kirishima glances around the nearly empty room, then back at me. "No one's talking."

<Whatever.> I open my locker and slip into my gym uniform, folding my clothes and placing them on the top shelf. When I do so something small falls out, rolling past my feet.

"Hey, you dropped this!" Hairo beams, handing me a small silver ring.

<It's not mine.>

"Well, it came out of your locker, so you might as well keep it, right?" I blankly stare at him, trying to think of a reason to deny the ring. I can't, so I shrug and take it, placing it on my finger. My eyes widen as the constant mummers of the thousands of fans vanish, and I'm left with silence in my head.

"Woah."

"Did you just talk?" Midoriya asks, his eyes wide as he looks at me. "You never speak like that…"

[Of course, he would notice.]

"This ring… it blocks out the voices." I fiddle with the ring, twisting it around my finger. "Amazing."

"Does it cancel your other powers? Or just telepathy? If it just cancels telepathy, I can see why you would like it, I can't imagine being able to read everyone's mind. Which reminds me, can you control that or is it constant? And how do you have so many quirks? Do you-"

"The ring doesn't help if you're going to spew all of this at me."

"Ah!" Midoriya covers his mouth, his face quickly turning red. "S-sorry."

"Midoriya."

"Huh?" Midoriya turns his head, getting to his feet as Todoroki approaches him.

"I think it's fair to say that I'm better than you,"

"Uh, yeah." Midoriya glances at his feet, unable to look Todoroki in the eye.

"However, you've got All Might in your corner helping you out. I'm not here to pry about what's going on between you two, but know that I will beat you." Todoroki glares at Midoriya, who can't help but take a step back.

"Hey now, let's be civil! We're classmates!"

"And that makes us friends. Right buddy?" Nendo throws his arm over Todoroki's shoulders, smiling at him.

"Get off me, idiot." Todoroki shoves Nendo aside, walking away from his class.

"Wait a second, Todoroki," Midoriya mutters, unsure of himself. "I don't know what's going through your head, or why you think you need to tell me that you'll beat me, and yeah, of course you're better than me. In fact, you probably have way more potential than anyone in the hero course. Other than Saiki, of course. That's why you got in so easily."

"Hey now, no need to be so harsh."

"He's right, you guys. All the other courses, they're coming for us with everything they've got. We're all going to have to fight to stand out. And I'll be aiming for the top, too."

"Fine," Todoroki replies, unimpressed.

"ARE YOU READY? I WANNA HEAR YOU SCREAM AS OUR STUDENTS MAKE THEIR WAY TO THE STAGE!"

[What a pain.]

The classes dramatically step into the light. The audience cries louder as they see us, their excitement overflowing. Present Mic introduces the classes, who slowly muster in the middle of the arena.

Midnight announces that the student pledge will be said by Bakugo, who seems unsurprised. He shoulders his way to the front, making his way to the microphone beside Midnight. The world seems to silence as Bakugo stands there, glaring at the crowd, his crimson eyes filled with hatred.

"I just wanna say…" He says in an indifferent tone, as if he doesn't really care, "I'm gonna win." The classes nearly riot, screaming at Bakugo in anger.

"YOU CAN'T JUST SAY THAT!" Bakugo shoulders his way back into the mass of students, ignoring their complaints.

"Without further ado, it's time for us to get started! This is where you begin feeling the pain! The first fateful game of the festival!"

Midnight gestures to the large screen behind her, which spins until it lands on obstacle course. She briefly explains the obvious rules, and we all line up for the race.

[It's kind of convenient All Might specifically mentioned that I can't teleport in a race. I'll just have to find another way to win.]

I stare into the dark hall, glancing at the walls.

[What if…]

"BEGIN!" The students surge forward, not wasting a second in getting ahead. I let them pass, smiling as they run ahead. They're trampling each other, pushing through like their lives depend on it. Todoroki blasts ice, trapping everyone. He had expected it to go out the opening at the other side of the tunnel, but it instead breaks into millions of pieces, shattering over the students.

"What just happened?"

"Where did this ice come from?"

I chuckle, I can almost sense Todoroki's dumbfoundment as he continues to jog forward. The few people that dodged his attack continue forward, unaware of what is blocking their path.

"THAT'S WEIRD, WHY HASN'T ANYONE COME OUT YET? AND WHY IS THERE A STUDENT STANDING AT THE BEGINNING STILL?" I roll my eyes, stepping into the darkness so that the announcers can't see me. I levitate over the mass, flying to the end of the passageway.

"Is that Saiki?"

"Wait, Big Lick's son?"

"Is his quirk flying or something?"

"I don't know, but if he's Big Lick's son he can't be any good."

"Don't talk to buddy like that!"

"At least he isn't trapped in ice!"

"Yeah… you got a point there." All eyes turn to me as I continue to float forward. The students at the end of the tunnel are pounding at seemingly thin air, trying to use their quirks against it but to no avail. I smirk as I pass through my barrier, easily landing on the other side.

"SAIKI YOU ASSHOLE!" Bakugo yells, slamming a fiery fist at the wall.

"LET US OUT!"

"YOU CAN'T JUST LEAVE US IN HERE!"

I ignore their complaints, shoving my hands in my pockets and walking away.

[No reason to jog, they aren't going to get out.]

"WOAH, SAIKI'S OFF TO AN EARLY LEAD! IT SEEMS HE'S TRAPPED THE OTHERS IN THE TUNNEL!"

"THAT'S MY BOY!"

I sigh as I hear my dad's voice over the announcements.

[He's a pain, but I guess I don't care what he does.]

A large robot dives at me, a red light shining out of its face.

[This must be what the others had to beat in the entrance exam. Interesting.]

I flick my finger at the robot, this simple action sends it flying into the sky, its pieces shattering and raining down.

[They aren't even that hard to beat.]

A herd of much large robots appears, each ready to attack. I use my telekinesis to stop them in their tracks, casually walking through them.

[I'll leave these for the others.]

"WOAH! SAIKI'S SHOWING OFF HIS POWERS PRETTY EARLY!"

"Saiki is most likely leaving the robots to slow down the others," Aizawa mutters into the microphone, clearly already wanting a nap.

"Huh? But the others aren't anywhere near him?"

"It's still a good offensive and defensive move."

"THAT'S MY BOY FOR YOU!"

I continue to amble forward, yawning as I come across a large pit with ropes along it.

[Easy enough.]

I jump over the pit, easily landing on the other side.

WOAAHHH!"

I advance through the course, finally coming across a minefield. I lazily lift the mines out of the field, floating them above my head and strolling through the now empty field. Once at the end I set the mines down again and step through the finish line.

"AND SAIKI WINS! WHAT AN AMAZING RACE! Kinda boring though…."

I shrug, releasing the wall holding the others back.

No point in not releasing them. I'll let their race play out normally.
