A mother's love

A mother and her daughter were living peacefully in the city. The mom was sick but she still took care of her child. One day, someone knocked on the door. The mom went to open the door revealing a policeman. He asked if she was Liliane's daughter. After confirming her identity, the police moved to the side where an old woman was standing. She didn't have her shoes on and her hair and clothes were a mess. She had scratches and wounds all over her legs. The woman nervously called her, "Mom?". The old woman joyfully replied, "My daughter! How are you? Is your sickness still aggravating you? Sit. Sit on the chair. I'm gonna make you some chicken soup and your favorite steamed fish." The grandma stumbles on her way to the kitchen. She brought a chicken, a fish and some vegetables that she picked in the mountains. She clumsily used the knife and the pot while almost breaking the plates and finally, managed to finish cooking the meal for her daughter. Her granddaughter told her mother how the chicken was still raw and the fish still has scales on it. She choked because the meat was too salty and the young mom immediately gave her water and tell her to regurgitate the piece of meat she has eaten. While the mother was trying to save her daughter, she didn't see her own mother's sad face. After the whole ordeal, the young mom asked her mother to stay with them for a while. The old woman refuse and went back home.

Fast-forward a few years, the young mom was healthy again and she went to visit her mother. When she called for her, the grandma immediately got up and tried to rush into her daughter's arms. That's when the young woman realized something.

Her mom was blind.

She choked back her tears and recalls the day when her mother went to visit her in the city.

Liliane lives in a poor town really far from the city. She was almost completely blind at that time. However, because of money issues, she didn't go to the hospital to treat her blindness. She was a devoted mother and loves her daughter dearly. When she heard that her daughter was sick, she panicked and remembered how she always makes chicken soup and steamed fish for her. Rushing out of the house, she hurriedly bought a chicken and went to catch a fish. She ran to the mountains to pick up fresh veggies for the soup. For her daughter, she went to the city alone for the first time. She might not see the road, but she knows that her daughter is just on the other side of it. From her home to her daughter's home, she climbed over two mountains, crossed a river, walked 28 kilometers on foot, and took the bus for 36 hours. It took her three days to finally arrive in the city. Without knowing her daughter's address, she asked strangers if they knew her daughter. She was so desperate but determined to find her daughter and cook for her.

In the present:

The daughter cried remembering her mother's hardships and decides to cook for her. She made chicken soup and steamed fish just like how her mother made it or her. They both shared a hearty meal together. Sadly, a few days later, the grandma passed away. However, she left beautiful memories behind for her daughter to remember her. And now, on the dining table of their home, there will always be chicken soup or steamed fish to eat and share.
