Sacrifice [Edward Elric x Reader]

You fall to the ground, unconscious. Ed's grin turns down and his eyes widen in horror. A bright yellow light fills the room. He traces the thick black vine that reached out from the machine into your heart. Ed's knees gives up from under him. Al rushes in. "Brother, what's-" Ed turns to Al, tears and desperation filling his eyes. "She's gone, Al. She's gone. And it's all my fault!" Al's eyes widen as he stares at the figure behind his brother. Your body was vaporizing slowly. Al points towards you, shaking. The yellow light swallows your body, along with the vine and Ed's machine. Ed turns and hangs his head as everything falls silent. Al stands there wordlessly. Ed blinks away his tears, determination set in his eyes. "She's gone, Al, but I won't allow that. It's not a fair equivalent exchange." Ed looks up at Al. chapter 37

You bunch up snow in your hands, looking up at Ed. He's staring at you defiantly.

You think. me.

You aim at him, but suddenly, a snowball is sailing through the air, getting closer to you by the second. You barely have time to react, but you do, ducking down.

It's not remotely fast enough, and the snowball manages to slide over the top of your head, leaving coldness seeping through your hair and into your head.

You get up from your ducking position and glare at Ed angrily. You, without making any big hand movements, throw the pre-made snowball in your hand quickly at him. He barely dodges your attack.

But while he's defending, you clap your hands together and place them into the snow, leaving deep handprints in the ground. You feel the energy of molecules running through you, and you quickly send the energy to the patch of snow behind Ed, which explodes, showering Ed with snow.

He gives you a dirty look, white snow dusting his entire body. You smile and bite your lip, trying not to laugh. He slowly gets up from his fallen position.

"(Y/N)...." he growls menacingly. Your grin fades away as he goes crazy, becoming a blur as he creates more snowballs, throwing them at you at the same time. You try to dodge them, laughing, but it's too much. Soon, you're covered in snow as well, lying on the ground, and panting heavily. You groan and bunch up a handful of snow, pushing yourself up into a sitting position and launching it at Ed.

Ed doesn't move as it hits him, hard in the chest, and he glares at you. You get more snow and throw them at him more, and he gives up trying. Before long, he's covered in so much snow that he resembles a snowman. You try not to laugh again.

"I give up!" He yells. "You win!"

"Let's build a snowman, then!" You suggest. When Ed doesn't respond, you throw a snowball at him. He gives a small grunt as he looks away. "Fine, fine."

You smile triumphantly.

To start, you start rolling the biggest, bottom snowball. Ed drags his feet slowly to your side, helping you pat more snow onto the surface of the small snowball. When it gets big and firm enough, you place the snowball on the ground. And start rolling it with the help of Ed. Soon, the snowball is so big it goes up to your knees. You admire your creation.

You turn to see Ed already making the second one.

"Ahh! The snow is so cold it's freezing my hands off!" Ed complains. You snicker at his lack of gloves.

You pull off your right glove to feel is hand. "Let me see." You request. Ed looks at you for a second before holding his hand out to your outstretched hand. His cold hand rests in your warm ones, and you blush a bit at the touch. He looks off to the side, avoiding eye contact with you and turning a bit red.

"Hey, what are laughing at!? It's not like wou-" His line of sight falls on your gloves, and he stares at it in contempt.

After seemingly staring at it for a long time, Ed gives a small and turns around quickly, heading towards the hotel door.

"I'm getting my own gloves." You hear him mutter.

You get up, examining your surroundings.

The brown wooden buildings around you are decorated with flashing and pretty lights changing color every once in a while. The colors come in a variety, orange, blue, green, pink, red, and others, but the most prevalent ones are the green and red ones.

The roofs of the buildings are covered in a thin layer of snow, giving a Christmassy feeling. Through windows, you can see the flash and color of Christmas trees, decorated with many ornaments of different sizes and kinds.

There are prettily wrapped gifts under the tree and there's a huge star stuck on top of it.

Gifts....

Gifts!

You had forgotten to get gifts for Ed and Al and the girl!

"Shoot." You mutter.

You look down the street. The shops are closed and the streets are deserted and there is no way you could buy anyone a gift in this weather. Well, at least the shops you could are closed. Unless you make something for them.

You wonder what to make for them. There is not much you can actually make with your alchemy. But you still don't know what to get them, so you decide to explore a bit.

You quickly start marching down the street, the snow slowing you down significantly. You groan. The cross ahead seems very far away, but you know you're making progress.

You start walking faster, or attempting to walk faster. Suddenly, ahead, you can hear the sound of people laughing and the smell of warm food, along with singing and jingling and talking. You follow your nose and ears and turn left at the cross.

To you're relief, there are many people on the street. The snow is dusted off to the side, and you can smell the aroma of sweets and warm drinks. There're Christmas themed songs playing, floating through the air to your ears. Each and every shop is open, trying to lure customers in with signs that read, "Buy One, Get One Free!" and "Only for a limited time!" There are booths that sold food like gingerbread cookies, hot chocolate and marshmallows, and others. The buildings and roofs and bare trees are decorated extremely pretty.

You knew immediately that you found the right place to buy things and to browse things you like.

The thing is, you don't know what to get Ed Al the girl.
