chapter 27
The nurse is surprised, staring at Ed.
"W-what is doing here!?"
You switch your gaze repeatedly from Ed's scared look to the nurse's exasperated expression.
You open your mouth to whisper. "Please, Miss, understand. He-"
"I'm sorry, (Y/N), but Mr. Elric here has committed an offen-"
Three men burst into your room, the same men from earlier this morning. You press your lips together, and an idea pops into your mind. You put the food tray in your lap to the nightstand.
You think to yourself.
Ed starts arguing with the four hospital people, but you shut everyone and everything out.
In an effort, you think of the doubt growing in your heart about Ed, and you think about Ed himself. You think about all the crazy things that could've happened. You close your eyes and imagine.
Ed... I miss you so much....
You open your eyes to tears welling up. Although it has only been a few seconds, you felt as if your story took a long time to come up with (-_-). You continue with your plan.
"Please, let him go. Just this one time? Because I... I can't live without him. Literally." You blush as you can't think of any better excuse.
The nurse stares at you suspiciously, because she knows you're not the type of person to act like this. The three men, however look at you sympathetically.
"But Miss (L/N), it won't be long, he'll-"
You clench your teeth. "There's something important, a-and if he's not here with me, then..."
The men each give each other a look.
"(Y/N)-"
You start sobbing, painfully, because it made you look so soft, but you continue.
You hear a sigh and peek at the men.
"Fine... We'll let him off the hook. But just this one time, okay? Any other offenses, and no more empathy."
You make your face slowly grow a smile. "Th-thank you..." You whisper.
They all sigh. "Uhhh..." One of them says. "Uh, we'll... Be going...?"
"Yeah..."
One by one, the three men file out of the room, leaving you and your nurse and Ed.
Your nurse opens her mouth. "(Y/N)-"
"I'm sorry," you interrupt her, whispering, "but there's something important we have to get to. Like, really important. So, I'd like to be discharged from the hospital as soon as possible. Thanks."
The nurse sets her lips together. "....You're not completely healed yet, (Y/N). There's still a chemical running through your system, and... It's really dangerous. We don't know how to get rid of it though."
You're not surprised. "Is.. Is it a chemical that messes with your brain?"
"... We're not sure. We think it affects your hippocampus."
"And when did you test me?"
"When you were still unconscious."
You press your lips together.
"So you can't leave yet."
You nod. "Okay..."
The nurse slowly backs out of your room and you frown. But then you remember Ed and you smile.
"How was that for acting?"
"Are you stupid!? You sounded so dumb!" Ed is yelling at you.
You chuckle. "Well, you should at least thank me. Or else I'll... Do something."
Ed smirks. "Do what?"
"Uhhh... I.. Don't know, but it'll be bad!"
Ed raises his eyebrow. "Huh. Sure."
You flail your arms. "Really! I will!"
Ed laughs at you in mockery.
