Important Talks and Yang's Revelations

(Just a head's up this chapter is now set in Skyrim. This was originally meant to just be the start of a skyrim chapter before it changed over to Skyrim after showing what was happening in Remnant.)

(Yang POV)

Yang was sat beside Daemon's bed wiping his forehead with a wet flannel. He had been in a coma for almost two days now and showed no signs of change. She rung out the cloth before placing it on his head again as a scratching and whimpering sound at the door distracted her.

She quickly got and opened the door revealing a sad looking Lilith with ears flat to her as she stared up at her. The little puppy quickly walked past Yang and jumped up on the end of the bed before crawling onto her owners chest gently nuzzling his chin, whimpering softly when she got no reaction. The little pup laid down on his chin on her paws making a little whining sound as she didn't receive the attention she was seeking from her master.

Yang could only hope that he would wake up soon. Only a few days ago she had hated the boy she was now watching over. She had feared that he was there to replace her and that her family wouldn't want her anymore. She didn't know why she had thought that but she was over it now, she had a long and thorough talk with her parents over the matter and realised just how stupid she had been.

She was now worried about the boys who had saved her not just once but twice and now he was in a coma due to it. It was due to her stupidity and recklessness that he was like this. She wanted to apologise to him and thank him for saving her. To give him a chance and get to know him. Especially now that she knew why he was really here. She thought back to her conversation the night of the incident.

(Flashback)

Yang was sitting on her bed at around eight o'clock as she waited for her father to return home. Summer had barely spoken to her or Ruby as she had been so focused on doing what she could to help save Daemon. Qrow likewise hadn't spoken to them before a few brief words since they had arrived back at the house. She understood however that treating Daemon as best as they could was far more of a priority at this moment in time.

Ruby had been tears after realising that Daemon might die, it seemed she had grown quite attached to him in the few days that he had been here. She had cried for almost an hour as Yang had comforted the poor girl and tried to reassure her that he would be fine and that Qrow and their would treat him and he would fine. That Daemon would be fine, he tough and would be up and about soon enough.

Sadly, however while she may have tried to convince Ruby of this fact, she couldn't fully convince herself.

After an hour of fake reassurances and comforting Ruby had practically cried herself to sleep so Yang had carried her up to her room and placed in her bed, tucking her in. She stroked her hair from her face and kissed her forehead as their mother often did before leaving to her own room to think.

As she had sat on her bed she had almost broken down in tears as the thought of what had happened if not for Daemon both herself and her little sister, Ruby, could be dead right now. All because she was being stupid, selfish and insecure. Her little sister would have died if not for the boy she had spent the past few days hating and avoiding for no fault of his own.

Now that same boy was in the next room injured and potentially dying. Yang was foolish, her uncle Qrow had told her about those frog-like grim before, tintorus, or something. They were unique to Patch and highly poisonous to even touch. Those that touched them had a one in ten chance of surviving if they were lucky and had aura. Qrow however, had explained many died within seconds and that it was often the better way to go, less painful. This thought brought a sob to her mind as she thought about the room next to her. The boy who had saved her twice and had only been hit by one to protect her.

She fought down the urge to sob as she fought back the urge to sob as she brought her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around. After around fifteen minutes she had stopped and just proceeded to wait.

She heard the front door open and heard running as her dad shouted "Summer, Qrow where are you? I'm back is everyone okay? Any injuries?" From next door her mother called back to him her voice breaking "We are in Daemon room Tai." She heard heavy foot steps as her dad ran up the stairs and threw open the door of Daemon's room.

"Shit! What happened to him? Is he going to be okay?" She could hear the panic and sorrow in his voice. She heard Qrow answer him "The lad got caught by a tinctorius. It caught his arm as he blocked it from getting Yang. It held him with its tongue for a good few seconds before I was able to cut it off and kill the damn thing. But he was still caught for a good couple of seconds."

She heard Qrow give a sigh of exhaustion and annoyance before he spoke again. "Dammit Tai! If I had been here when I was meant to be none of this would have happened and the boy would still be okay!"

Yang heard her dad draw in a deep breath before replying "Qrow, none of this is your fault. None of us knew this would happen. No one is to blame for this."

Yang strained to hear anything more as the room next to her went silent before a couple of minutes later she heard Qrow speak again.

"And what about Yang; Tai? What the fuck was she thinking? She not went into a forest infested by grimm but she took Ruby with her! They both could died!"

Yang felt her stomach drop and heart stop at these words. Her uncle was a hundred percent correct in what he said,. Yet she couldn't stand to hear it, not from him or her parents. The disappointment in their voices would hurt more anything else. She knew how badly she had messed up yet she could nothing about it now.

Yang then her dad respond "Qrow that's enough! We all know that she fucked up big time!" Her dad was shouting at this point. He spoke again quieter this time "That isn't what matters now. What matters is me and Summer talking to her and understanding why this happened and making sure it doesn't happen again."

She heard her uncle just grunt and heard the door open. "After tonight I need a drink so I am going to go to that nice little pub near Signal then crash in our office at Signal. I will see you at work tomorrow"

She heard footsteps on the stairs and then the front door open and shut before the cry of a crow was heard as a small black bird rose into the sky and disappeared.

She heard two pairs of footsteps in the corridor along with a muffled whisper before a gentle knock on her door called her to attention. Summer's voice called through softly the wooden barrier "Yang sweetie are you awake?"

She stood up and opened the door and stared at her parents. Both looked stressed with bloodshot eyes a d she could see that Summer's were red and puffy from crying. She imagined her own were much the same.

Summer tried to give her a small smile while she could see the slight glistening of tears in her eyes. Yang felt like crying, there was none of the usual upbeat and cheerful energy, nor any of the mischievous mirth that she could normally see when she gazed at Summer. No she just seemed sad and tired.

"Yang sweetie why don't you come down to the kitchen and have a hot chocolate while we have a talk." While Summer had said this softly and like it was a question Yang knew that this really an order. She tried to reply but in the end could only gulp nervously and nod.

Summer and Tai seeing her agreement both began to head down stairs with her following closely behind the two. Once they were in the kitchen Yang could feel a silent tension as she sat there in silence at the kitchen table fighting down the urge to fidget.

Her father then placed three cups of steaming hot chocolate on the table causing Yang to wrap both her hands around and bring it closer to her. She stared into the cup as Summer began to speak softly.

"So Yang do you know why we are talking? What we want to talk about?"

Yang gave a small nod of agreement not looking up from her cup of hot chocolate causing Summer to speak again with a slight edge to her voice.

"Yang Xiao-Long, you will look at me and speak when I ask question. Do you understand" Summer didn't shout but then again she didn't need to shout. Just the sheer disappointment and annoyance in Summer's voice something that was so out of place for her mum, was enough to make her throat go dry and her heart clench.

She then looked up at Summer in a small voice barley louder than a whisper "Yes." Summer looked her and said "I will ask again Yang. What do you think we want to talk about?"

Yang looked down into her drink again before looking up at her parents again and spoke slowly in a low voice. "You wan to talk about why I ran away." She felt the urge to curl up into a ball and sob as she saw Summer's normally mirthful glowing silver eyes, gleaming an almost dull metallic grey colour.

Here Tai took over as he addressed her "Yes that is part of what we want to talk with you about. However, we also want to know some other things like: what happened, why you went to that cabin in particular and how you knew about it and perhaps most importantly why on Remnant you were foolish enough to not only risk your OWN LIFE BUT RUBY'S AS WELL!" His tone had started even and dull before rising to a shout by the end.

Yang could feel herself crying as Summer put a hand on her dad's shoulder to tell him to calm down. "While I don't really appreciate your father shouting at you," Summer gave Tai a slightly harsh look as she said this, "he isn't wrong. However, he also forgot a couple of points such as how we are make sure this NEVER happens again and what your punishment for doing so will be."

She heard her father give a slight sigh as he stood up and then wrapped her in a hug before whispering "Come on sweetie stop crying. I am sorry for shouting at you. I am just really stressed and upset over this and while I am angry at you I shouldn't just shout at you. I am just glad you and Ruby are safe at the very least."

He then let go of her before brushing a tear off her cheek and kissing her on the forehead before sitting down and beginning again in a much calmer tone than before "So I suppose the best and probably easiest place to start will be what happened. Yang, I want to know everything from when you came up with the idea to leaving to what happened in the forest. Okay?"

Yang looked down at her still steaming cup of hot chocolate and blowing on and taking a sip as she organised her thoughts with her parents waiting patiently. She then took in a deep breath before she began to explain.

"I suppose that it would be easier to explain when and why I had the idea to run away before anything else. The idea to run away first came into mind when Mum brought Daemon back with her after her last mission and told us that he would be living with us. I know that you and mum have always wanted a son and I also know that Summer isn't my mother even she raises me. When she brought Daemon back I thought that you wanted to replace me with him. I mean he even looks similar to Summer and Ruby unlike me."

Taking a deep breath she continued "I thought that you and mum didn't want me anymore and as such were going to replace me with him. After all you only need two kids." She gave a small sob "I know it sounds stupid thinking about it, especially now that I have had time to think about it after all that has happened. Yet at the time it was the only reason that made sense. I saw how well he got along with you and Ruby and it upset me so I began to be horrible and rude to him and ignore him." Here she broke down sobbing as Summer stood and hugged her as she asked in a quiet unsure voice "Why did he save me? I have been nothing but horrible to him since he got here and he still saved me. He risked his own life to save to mine. WHY?"

Summer gave a slight laugh as she rubbed circles in Yang's back as she cried into her shoulder and spoke softly "Because that the type of person he is Yang and the type of person he will always be. He is a free yet noble spirit who will no doubt be looked upon like the heroes of old." Yang pulled away from slightly to look up into Summer's eyes amazed at what she thought of him but curious as to why.

(Summer POV)

I was hugging Yang as despite being angry at her I still didn't want her cry like this. She was still my daughter and much of my anger was admittedly over the danger that she had placed herself and Ruby in.

When she had started crying and asking why he had risked his life to save her I couldn't help but give a laugh out exasperation, humour and nervousness as I remembered the words of his aura awakening chant. I only told Yang that, that was simply the type of person Daemon was. Yang must have heard the surety in my voice as I said this as she pulled back slightly and looked at me with blatant curiosity in her eyes. I also noticed with a slight smile Tai lean forward a flash of curiosity in his eyes as I hadn't told him this previously.

While I didn't want to get so off topic I suppose that it might help to alleviate some of Yang's guilt so I started with a question. "Yang do you know how someone's aura is unlocked?" I looked down as I saw her give a slight shake of her head. "Well in many cases with the exception of those who manage to self-awaken their aura like Daemon did, which is extremely rare, it is done by someone else with aura using a unique chant to awaken someone else's aura. Everyone has a unique chant that reveals something about the person's innate nature. Daemon told me his as he used to unlock Lilith's aura."

She saw her Husband's eyebrows shoot up as she said this, this was likely because it was rare to find someone who actually knew their own chant, maybe one in ten aura users knew their chant and this was often only after decades of living and self-realisation. She smiled as she remembered it and began to recite it aloud.

"For it is in passing that we come to understand our own being. It is through this we come to understand our own paths, ever branching and filled with peril. It is through this journey that we rise beyond our limits as we seek the victory promised. May not time not weaken you or death bind you. With this I release your soul and share your burden as I invite you to join this journey by my side." I paused for a moment to allow it to sink before continuing.

"This is the summary of what makes Daemon who he is, it explains his inner motivation, his view of this world and his desires. He views his life as an adventure that he will follow and fulfil, everything that he does is to achieve glory and he believes he will never be defeated. Daemon want to be remembered as a legend for centuries to come. He knows the path will not be easy and he will face many hardships but he will not shy away from them, no he will welcome them.

This Yang is why he saved you and why he will be unbothered by the injuries he has obtained when he does. Because it was a part of his journey, a peril that he face and one that he will have beaten."

I stop and look up at the sky and say as I am deep in thought "All of the myths and legends of heroes and grimm, all the trials and hardships they have faced; that is what he seeks beyond all else. The tales of heroes like Hercules and Perseus from Mistral who fought such monsters as like the titan grim of old the Gorgon and Cerberus or the ancient warrior mage who first ruled Vale when humanity first rose up against the grimm, they are what Daemon aims to be like. I have little doubt that he will day attempt to kill one of the thirteen titans that remain. and he may even succeed.

This Yang is why you don't need to worry about him holding it against you or being upset. In his mind he went on an adventure and succeeded in his quest."

I could see the awe and amazement in her eyes as I finished explaining this to her and then gently coaxed her to continue with explaining the events of the day.

(Tai POV)

Having just listened to Summer's explanation I was shocked. He knew his aura awakening chant and the person it described was awe inspiring. It depicted someone who would always push forward and advance. Who would never look back until the end of their road when they would recite their past with pride.

It also explained about why he risked his life to interfere and save Summer from one of Salem's agents. He knew that his own chant was no where near as glorious or heroic. He paused as he thought of what his was.

'For it is through our pride we gain stability. It is through this we become able to achieve tranquillity, cast off anger and doubt. It is through pride that we rise beyond our limits and achieve our own inner peace as we stand as a beacon before others. May not time not weaken your resolve or death bring you sorrow. With this I release your soul and shoulder your burden so it will not make you weary.'

Tai had always known that he was a proud man but as he had grown older and started his family he had changed. He began to be driven to live a peaceful life and maintain discipline over himself. The source of his pride was also no longer being strong to better than others. No, now it was being strong to maintain and protect what he possesses and most values, his true pride, the thing that he would die for with a smile on his face. His family.

He compared his and Daemon's chants in his mind letting a small smile slip as he thought of the great man the boy would become. The man that his chant depicted him to be. Strong, courageous, protective, a hero who would welcome any challenge and charge in to save anyone. Tai was satisfied but also disappointed, the boy lived up to his lofty ideals when he saved the girls. Yet he could not help but fear that the boys bright flame, one that could one day grow to be a shining beacon to others would be extinguished.

He could only hope that the boy would wake up soon.

He looked back at Yang and gave a slight nod before telling her to "Carry on Yang, we got a bit off topic."

(Yang POV)

I had listened, amazed at what I had just heard about Daemon. If what mum had just told me was true then that meant that Daemon was a far better person than I was and every likely would be. He was a year younger than me yet was at the level of a professional huntsman already. We were both children and yet he seemed so much more mature than me, so much better. More so he made me want to be better myself.

I was imagining what this boy could be like in the future, would he grow into a hero like the one in mine and Ruby's fairy tales or would he fall short. Would he even survive long enough to be able to find out what he could do, who he really was. To her however this didn't matter he was already her hero.

Her dad however brought her mind back to the conversation when he spoke and she thought back to what she had been saying, her conscience made lighter by the information that had just been revealed to her by her mother.

She took a deep breath before continuing "I was afraid that you didn't want me anymore and decided to run away. When you told me that you would both be at work I decided to runaway but realised that with Qrow being here so soon that I wouldn't get the chance to runaway.

When you called me at lunch at and told me that Qrow would be late I realised that I had time began to plan out how I would runaway and decided to follow through on it. I had decided to go alone and find my birth mother. I had found a photo of her standing in front of the cabin when you were moving all your old stuff and kept it.

I thought that she might be willing to take me in and look after me. However, when I went to leave to I realised that I didn't want to leave Ruby behind, she is my little sister and decided to take her with me. I then planned out how long it would take to get there and how I could take Ruby with me using the little wagon.

I wrapped her up in a jacket and warm blanket and left. I spent almost three hours walking before I got to the cabin and found out that my birth mother wasn't even there anymore. Then I saw a pack of beowolves and an alpha and jumped over Ruby to protect her. I hoped someone would show up and at least be able to save her."

I paused here, I knew my explanation was not the most in depth or attentive but I couldn't bring myself to go into more detail about it. I was now coming to the hardest part.

"I think I screamed when I saw one the alpha begin to lunge, I was a bit out of it at this point. The stress made me feel like I wasn't really there. I had buried my face into Ruby's cloak prepared for the blow but it never came instead I heard.

"You both okay?" There was not worry or fear or even anger in his voice as he asked. He didn't sounded fazed in the slightest. Just cool, calm, confident and collected. Like he was out for a walk at the park.

I looked up at him and he just there calmly sword held down by his right side and a smirk on his face as he looked at the grimm. I answered the we were both fine and then he made a pun about the 'rather grimm spectacle' and he would be quick.

Then he just blurred and all I could see was a blur followed by a sliver flash and then a grimm falling to the ground dead.

He killed them all in seconds and then blurred back in front of me and Ruby quickly tackled him in a hug and then I hugged them both and said thank you to him.

He then scolded me for not thinking about anyone else before comforting me and saying everyone would just be glad that I was okay."

I stopped and finished my hot chocolate as I prepared myself to explain what happened next. I could relay this clearly. It was burned into my memory.

"As we were hugging I felt him tense and then the world blurred as both me and Ruby were thrown to the ground.

I was furious at him as I thought we were finally getting along and I thought he did it to hurt me and worse could have hurt Ruby.

I then looked up and saw he had his arm raised as the level of my neck and wrapped around was a weird pink tongue looking thing.

He was sweating like crazy and going pale. I didn't realise for a second what was going on when I heard a crow cry and Uncle Qrow appeared.

He dropped down from a tree and cut the pink thing before shooting a round at a tree. I then saw the small frog looking grimm drop to the floor dead and then the tongue dissolve before a wave of heatless fire washed over us all.

Uncle Qrow caught before panicking and then rushing all of us home to you.

That's what happened."

There was a moment of silence as Summer and Tai processed what Yang and told them and what had happened. This slience stretched uncomfortably for a few minutes before Summer spoke up.

"Yang you said that he let off a wave of a flames. This is very important so I need you to remember Ok? What colour were the flames?"

It only took Yang a moment before she answered "I am pretty sure they were white. Why does the colour matter though?"

Summer gave a small smile as she replied. "If the flames were white then they could have been healing him. When he uses his semblance to heal the flames are white."

Yang perked up hearing this as she began to think about what this could mean. Surely, it meant that he was more likely to survive the attack then.

Tai then spoke in a low tone that caused her to strain to listen as he stared down into his empty mug. "Heh, I guess I really do owe that lad. He saved your mum, my wife and now both of my daughters."

Yang then watched as Summer and Tai looked at each for a minutes. Clearly communicating something with their eyes yet Yang couldn't work out what. Then her father spoke.

"Yang while we are glad you are okay we will need to punish you for your actions and the punishments will be harsh as it is not just for running away but for endangering your sister and yourself and causing Daemon to get injured having to save to save you.

I hope that you understand why this is necessary and will behave maturely when you received your punishments."

She gulped and lowered her head giving a slight nod. She could tell from her father's tone and expressions, which were mirrored by Summer that he was being serious about it 0being harsh.

She also recognised that she deserved it and would not argue against it. She knew that her parents were normally lenient but she also knew that they would be fair.

Her dad started "First you are grounded. This means not pocket money or allowance. No going out and meeting people. No scroll as the purpose of this is to take away your social time and your favourite leisure activity. You will how ever still be allowed out in the garden under supervision and come shopping with one of us once a week as you are home schooled and you wouldn't go out otherwise.

This will last 6 months but depending on your maturity maybe lessened. Likewise if you fail to show any maturity it may be extended further. We may also allow you an hour or two a day on your scroll if we think you have behave in a way that makes us believe that you deserve it.

We would like you to hand that to us now please Yang. However, we will let you send a message to your friends that your parents have confiscated it and you won't be having it for at least a month.

To be clear while we may let you use it, but it won't be for a month at the very least."

Yang nodded before getting her scroll out of her pocket and quickly opening it. She quickly opened her messages and started a send to all and typed.

"I have been grounded and my parents are going to confiscate my scroll for at least a month so I wouldn't be able to message anyone. So if I don't reply or talk for ages that's why."

She kept it short and to the point before sending the message. She heard two buzzes from her parents scrolls as she turned hers off and passed across the table to her father.

As she did this Summer pulled out her own scroll and read the message Yang had just sent and nodded before returning it to her pocket.

Summer gave a slight cough before speaking herself, continuing from where Tai left off.

"Secondly, you will be helping with chores and other activities for most your time while grounded since you won't have anything else to with your time.

We are hoping this will teach you some patience and responsibility. It will also give you some constructive to do with your time as well as hopefully teach some self management and control."

Yang gave a small nod as this seemed reasonable enough. It would give her something to do with her time with her time as she would have nothing else to do anyhow.

She didn't disagree and was not overly bothered or upset as she agreed that she deserved this punishment.

That was about to change however as she heard the final part of her punishment.

Summer then carried on from where she had left off. "This the part of your punishment that you will like the least. We will not start your training on your seventh birthday like had previously agreed."

Yang began to protest but Summer raised her hand to stop before she could even begin.

"We agreed to begin your training on your birthday as we believed you were mature enough to begin learning. This incident has proved you are not.

This also means that you will not be going to Signal with your father on a day trip a month after your birthday. Being at Signal even for a day requires that we can trust you to be mature and responsible. Right now, we can not do this.

We will begin your training on eighth birthday instead. If you desire to be a huntress in the future you must learnt learn patience and self-control.

Your father argued this was too harsh but it is necessary. If you do not learn to control yourself and before you become a huntress then you will charge in recklessly and get killed or if you are lucky at the very least maimed.

Yang if you do not learn control it won't just be you at danger in the future. It will the people you have to protect, your friends, your teammates. All these people will rely on you to make the right calls and not be reckless.

Yang, take this seriously. Spend this year thinking if you really want to be a huntress. I will take your answer on your eighth birthday. Think about if this is really the path you want to take. I will not ask again before then and neither will I take an answer before then."

Yang's felt dizzy and angry but also hurt. Summer wouldn't let her train and seemed to think that she wouldn't be a good huntress. That she would be a danger.

However, it also gave her clarity. She did need to change. Thanks to her, Ruby could and have died and Daemon still might. Because, she ran off recklessly for no reason.

She then thought about how it seemed to also be a warning as well as show Summer's concern for her. She also remembered that Ruby was being trained and was a little annoyed.

She tried to remain calm but her voice still showed some irritation and jealousy as she asked her parents.

"How about Ruby, she is getting training?"

Summer gave a slight smile and answered "I am also hoping that you will learn to think over the course of your punishment. I would suggest you think of what your punishment is, not what you think it is. Also, we aren't the ones training Ruby, we haven't taught her a thing."

Yang swallowed her annoyance as she thought about what her parents had said. It was then she realised. They would not train her, that didn't mean someone else couldn't.

Sadly, that likely meant that Qrow was also unlikely to train her. But Daemon when he woke up might. After all he was training Ruby. She could also begin to do body weight exercises and cardio ready for when she could train.

She also realised they said she would still have her own and time and that she was allowed in the garden.

She looked at both of her parents and nodded. "Okay, I understand."

Tai gave her a small smile and stood and gave her a light hug which Summer quickly joined in on.

Tai then gently ruffled her hair and said "Go to bed and rest, it has been a long and stressful day for everyone."

She walked upstairs slowly planning how she would begin to train. She would be a huntress but she would also heed Summer's advice and try to be calmer and learn to be less reckless in future. She understood that it could cause problems.

She also realised if not for this conversation she likely never would have decided she needed to change. Never would have tried to change. She would have always been as reckless and foolish as she was now until like her mom said; she died or was taught to be cautious by getting maimed.

She striped her clothes and threw on a pair of pyjamas and climbed into her bed and laid beneath her cover and buried her face in her pillow. Her head heavy on her pillow, filled with thoughts and plans of training.

She may be as stubborn as she ever was and that likely would never change. But now she had a direction for her stubbornness. Her stubbornness rather than hinder her would now help her and drive her forwards.

Yet even she didn't realise this at this moment in time and no-one would realise just how much this would change her life.

Just how far the consequences of this conversation and Yang's choice would reach. The future that once existed would now never come to pass.

(Flashback end)

She wiped his again head again and gave Lilith a little stroke as she stared at him. He was always so hot but her parents suspected it was his semblance.

Of course, the day after the conversation they had, had another talk about her chores and also reassurance that they had always wanted her and always would.

It had been heavy and emotional that part of the conversation but it had been needed. She was at peace in that regard. She knew that they had meant what they said.

She had also asked about her birth mother but had been told that her mother was bad news and Yang would be better not knowing. She had argued she should know about her before they came to a compromise, Yang would be told about her when she finished Signal or at the age, she would finish Signal.

She heard a shout from a shout from her father. "Yang, come on we are going shopping."

Yang leant over and brushed Daemon's hair from across her face before leaning over and kissing his forehead.

"You better wake up Daemon. I need you to wake up; I owe you Daemon and I will make it up to you."

She then left the room and looked back through the door as she pulled ajar so that Lilith could leave.

She knew he would wake; the heroes never lose and always get back up. That is what made them heroes

And Daemon; he would wake up. She had no doubt about that.

After all; he was her hero.
