Chapter 13

Reid observed the knife in his hand with a careful look. On the outside he seemed to have a neutral look but internally he was screaming.

[Mission Objective: Hunt enough meat for dinner!]

[Reward: Skill book]

'I'm just six! How the hell do you expect me to go hunting!?' He wanted to rant out loud but he held his tongue. On a hunch he tried to activate his semblance.

[Aura{level 25} required!]

'Well that's a bummer.' This was his first time trying to activate his semblance since he unlocked his [Aura]. He was sure that he would get the Sharingan but he was genuinely curious about if he could be wrong.

Putting those thoughts aside, he focused on the mission at hand. The deer in front of him was still unaware of the predators hiding a few meters away from it and continued feeding on grass.

Animals in this world were slightly stronger than what they should be so he had to kill it quickly. Catching it alive would be much harder than killing it.

He was ready to pounce on it when it raised its head at the sound of rustling leaves. Without wasting time, it dashed away.

'Oh no you don't!' Reid darted after it at full speed, knife in hand.

The deer weaved in between the branches and bushes of the forest trying to lose Reid but it seemed that Reid wasn't letting it escape, no matter the obstacle.

Even his mother who silently followed from behind was surprised at his tenacity and reluctance to let it go but it was understandable. If he let it go, who knows when next they would run into another animal to hunt.

Even after running through the forest for so long, he didn't seem any closer to his prey so he thought of another solution.

He gripped the knife in his hand tightly and then began to push [Aura] into blade. It shakily glowed a dull purple color before it stabilized.

He dismissed the screen as he calculated his sim and then drew his arm back before letting the knife fly through the hair.

The small weapon disappeared the moment it left his hand and appeared behind the skull of the deer. The momentum from the incoming weapon caused the animal to jerk forward, slamming headfirst into the side of a tree.

The knife went through its head and into the bark of the tree with half of the knife still buried inside its head. Everything seemed to freeze as deer blood mixed with brain juice dripped to the floor, staining the grass.

Reid grinned in triumph as life left the deer. It was so difficult to catch that he gained one point in both Vit and Dex. He was surprised that he didn't get a skill for hunting but he moved past that.

'Finally you horned bastard!' He internally celebrated while panting. His appearance was no longer decent or clean. His skin was filled with cuts and clothes were torn in multiple places from the sharp branches that he couldn't avoid while focusing on the deer.

Miko looked on in surprise and confusion at the worn out figure of her son as he watched the deer bleed out.

'I didn't expect him to actually do it.' She thought in pleasant surprise. She expected him to have a lot of trouble before giving up. She didn't think he would actually catch on, let alone kill it.

She has yet to give him any form of training, something that she planned to start during this trip. She couldn't count the amount of times that she held herself back from cuddling him and just catching it herself.

'His talent is truly exceptional.' She thought as a proud smile broke out on her face. She approached him from behind.

"Well done Reid. I'm proud of you." She watched as a smile showed through his exhausted face.

"Let's get it back to camp so we can start making dinner." Without appearing disgusted by the bloody nature of their soon to be dinner, she pulled out the knife from the deer and carefully carried it by the legs.

"Not yet." Reid said suddenly, pausing her movement in confusion.

"Hmm?" She hummed, looking at him in curiosity and confusion.

"Not yet. I can go again!" He said with determination. He stared at his mother dead in the eyes as he stated this. It shook her a bit because she had never seen him like this.

She sighed in exasperation. It was like he was intentionally trying to surprise her so she guessed she shouldn't be shocked by this anymore.

Without great reluctance, she allowed him to continue his hunt. Surprisingly he was able to catch two more; another deer and a rabbit.

The rabbit took more time because of its abnormal dodging ability and the fact that he had to retrieve his knife each time. He eventually caught it the same way he caught the others and gained a few skills during this entire hunting session.

Aura Flow[Active][level 3]

Throwing Mastery[Passive][level 4]

•••••••••••••••••••

He gained [Aura flow] from when he channeled his [Aura] through the knife and [Throwing Mastery] for obvious reasons. [Aura Manipulation] and [Presence Concealment] both leveled up by one.

He had realized that he could sneak up on them better with [Presence Concealment], making it a lot easier. It seemed to work at first but because of the low level of [Throwing Mastery], he missed quite a few times, giving away his location and the element of surprise.

Another good thing that happened was that he leveled up, gaining 3 stat points and completing his mission. Apparently killing animals also contributes to leveling up.

The reward for the mission was very worth it. He didn't using it in front of his mother out of the desire to avoid questioning.

On the way back to the campsite with the three dead animals in tow, she asked him a question out of nowhere.

"Reid, what is your dream? What do you want to be when you grow up?"

"My dream…" He was stunted by her question but he answered honestly.

"My dream is to make a world where huntsman wouldn't be needed. A world where you can live without worrying about anything." He replied with all seriousness as he stared at the road in front of him.

She promised herself that she wouldn't be surprised but she couldn't help herself. This time the look of surprise was clear on her face as she didn't bother hiding it.

They were silent for a while before she spoke again softly.

"Then you'll have to become strong to do that. You'll have to start training…starting tomorrow!" She said softly but excitedly.

He looked confused for a while. "You're going to train me?" He asked.

"Of course. I'll have you know, I'm not a weak woman." She said mysteriously as they neared the camp. His eyes narrowed a bit.

'Come to think of it, the head of the clan is decided by strength and respect. I never really questioned how mom became the clan head…' He mused as he followed her.

He looked at her but she didn't seem like she was going to speak anymore so he didn't pry further but still remained curious.

He looked at the new attribute that had appeared on his panel.

His immediate goal was to unlock his semblance so he had to figure out a way to level up [Aura] faster. Logically speaking, he would eventually fight Salem and possibly Ozpin so he had no time to waste.

'I'm not going to be a part of this marital squabble. You lay a hand on us and I'll kill you both. I swear it!'
