Logan sighed as he sat on a ledge that overlooked a deep valley below him. Next to him sat a massive, scoped rifle that was longer than Logan was tall. Behind Logan was a simple camp he had set up when he found the ledge. It had been a couple of weeks since Logan had dealt with Vale's council and he had left to deal with the Grimm Titan, the Titanoboa, a massive Grimm snake, that was responsible for two frontier towns to vanish in the last week. Logan had been tracking the Grimm for the last three weeks and just found its cave it call home for now.
The ledge Logan sat on had a view that encompassed the entire valley below him, along with a good view of the Titanoboa's cave. Logan had already been down to the cave and got close enough to set several explosive charges while the Grimm slept inside. Though, Logan had to use scent blockers that hunters would use while keeping a blank emotion to keep the Grimm from noticing when he was near. Even with all the preparation, the off chance that the Grimm would have noticed was enough to strain his nerves to the breaking point.
Logan looked out from his spot, enjoying the view as he pulled his scroll out and pulled up a picture on it. It was of him and Glynda during one of the missions they went on together when he was still in Vale. It was a stakeout and it was the first time he saw Glynda fall asleep at a desk. Despite her stern demeanor, she looked so innocent and cute that he had to take a picture of her. he even had it set to her icon when she called him. And as he gazed at her picture, remembering their time together, his scroll started to ring.
Logan: "Hello?" Logan said as he answered the call.
Glynda: "Hello, Logan." Glynda spoke in response. " I'm calling for an update on the Titanoboa situation. The Kingdoms are wanting to get at least one of them off the board and soon."
Logan: "Well good timing." Logan said. "I'm just getting ready to assault the Titanoboa's cave right now. My [Sidewinder] is loaded and I have planted several pounds of explosives at the cave. If it survives this, I'm dropping my hammer on it. From seven miles up."
Glynda: "I'll let them know. And I bet there's a good few of them that want to see the fight, not they'll ever get a chance to." Glynda spoke. "Anyway, how are you holding up?"
Logan: "I'm doing fine. I just miss you." Logan said. "I wish I could at least have you by my side. But, hearing your voice is more than enough to keep me going."
Glynda: "Love you too, Logan. And it's the same for me as well." Glynda admitted. "Anyway, I have to go. I stepped out to get an update from a full teleconference call with all four kingdoms."
Logan: "Then get back in there, I don't want you to get into trouble." Logan said as he got up. "And if any of them give you lip, send me their names and I'll give them a visit personally."
Glynda: "Will do, love." Glynda chuckled. "Now, get that Grimm and come back soon. I'm waiting for you."
Logan: "Bye, Glynda." Logan said as he hung up and stored his scroll away.
Logan huffed in relief after he hung up. Ever since he left Vale, Logan had missed the warm feeling he got when Glynda was nearby. And even now Logan missed that warmth. As Logan stood up to stretch, he felt a mana fluctuation behind him.
Logan smirked as he turned around and found what appeared to be a hologram made from mana. The figure was of the same man that Logan met when he passed out at Vale's wall. Yet the only difference is that he was entirely blue.
Logan: "Well, well, well. What does the mighty King want with little old me?" Logan mocked the Hologram.
King: "Really, Mr. Rowe?" The Hologram asked.
Logan: "Well, you are the current King of Grimm." Logan pointed out. "Anyway, what the matter? You wouldn't appear unless necessary."
King: "To get right down to do it, someone is gathering up more and more Grimm out from under my control." The King spoke seriously. "I believe that whoever it is, was behind Vale's siege as well as the one behind Attila's attack and her hacking of the CCT during it."
Logan: "I see..." Logan said as he pondered. "Even with this news, the plan doesn't change thankfully. Just makes it easier."
King: "I worry about you, Logan." The King said before turning to face the cliff. "How's the plan to deal with the Titanoboa?"
Logan: "I managed to plant the explosives inside the cave while it was sleeping inside but I'm not going back in there again." Logan told him. "I lost count of how many times I thought it was going to wake up."
King: "Has anything changed and how much did you plant?" The King asked as he walked over to Logan's [Sidewinder].
Logan: "Nothing changed from what the information you gave me indicated." Logan answered as he followed King. "And enough to level several city blocks in one go. I just hope that I don't have to use them."
King: "Why is that?" The King asked as he looked over the ten rounds logan prepared.
Logan: "I like this place, I might build a house here in the future." Logan commented as he picked [Sidewinder] up with his hands and the rounds with his ash. "I did promise Glynda I would build us a house. But I will if I have to."
King: "Here? In this valley away from any Kingdom or towns?" The King asked as he followed Logan as he began to set the rifle up. "I figured she would be more of a city girl."
Logan: "It would be a vacation home." Logan said as he began to sight in [Sidewinder]. "I figured a house in the city in a nicer part with a vacation house out here to escape the hustle and bustle of the city when we want."
King: "Fair enough." The King said as he looked out from the cliff ledge. "I would adjust for wind by three degrees North-by-Northwest. The distance is about 2,000 meters."
Logan: "Already on it." Logan commented as he adjusted the scope. "Anything else before I start?" Logan asked.
King: "Nothing that comes to mind." The King commented. "Anyway, I have to go. I wish you the best of luck. Goodbye." The King said as the mana hologram faded.
Logan: "And I just realized the irony of the two of us working together..." Logan commented dryly at the thought.
Logan than just shook his head as he continued to set up [Sidewinder]. [Sidewinder] was a ten-foot-long and two-foot-wide, single-shot, bolt-action rifle. Due to its nature, it had a plethora of issues. One, even with its size and weight, the rifle had to be shot from prone. Second, it had a bipod that had to be buried to help dampen the recoil of the round it shot. Third, the scope had to be readjusted after every five shots or none of the rounds after would be anywhere near the target. Fourth, if the barrel wasn't cleaned before and after firing five shots, it would explode. And finally, the shooter's aura had to be up and reinforcing the shooter before every shot or the shooter's shoulder, collar bone, and arm would break.
When Logan first laid his eyes on the blueprint for [Sidewinder], he nearly crapped himself due to the materials needed to create the monster of a gun as well as the cost. Almost every little piece of the gun needed extremely reinforced, Dust infused, carbon-fiber wrapped Titanium. As for the barrel, it required an alloy made from Titanium and Columbium wrapped in carbon fiber and dust infused to the point that Logan's flames had trouble melting it even a bit. His crimson flames even had trouble melting a tiny nugget of the stuff.
The amount of Lien that it cost Logan was ridiculous. During a conversation with Ruby, who helped Logan make it, and her team had Weiss coughing up blood when she heard about it and Blake wasn't any better herself. Weiss admitted that the amount was more than enough to buy 45% of S.D.C outright. Needless to say, Logan had once been loaded until he had built [Sidewinder]. That's not even counting the modified 57x441R rounds that Logan had to hand-make. The modified rounds are at least 10 times more powerful than a normal one. He's just glad that Glynda didn't ask about [Sidewinder], she would have killed Logan if she knew how dangerous it is to the shooter.
Logan just sighed at the thought of Glynda finding out and just accepted it. If she did, she did. The important thing right now was killing the Titanoboa.
Logan readied himself by loading a round into [Sidewinder] and aiming at the mouth of the Titanoboa's cave. Through his scope, Logan could see the head of the Grimm as if he was standing a hundred feet away from it. Taking a deep breath, Logan reinforced his body to his limit with aura and readied himself to shoot.
Logan: "Hey, Darren. Wherever you may be, I hope you don't mind me borrowing your prayer for this." Logan said to himself as he lined up his shot. "May my barrel be steady, and my aim be true, may my bullet fly straight, till the deed is through, may there be no pain, and their death be unfelt, and let be the killing shot be the only shot that's dealt."
Logan quietly chanted as he slowly squeezed the trigger. A thundering explosion echoed out as [Sidewinder] fired as the modified round shot up the tungsten dart out of the barrel. Less than a second later, the Titanoboa had the tungsten dart hit in the dead center of its eyelid. The millisecond the dart impacted the eyelid, the secondary explosive charge in the dart's body exploded. The force the dart hit with was already extreme but combined with the secondary explosion push it to even a greater degree.
The Titanoboa's head was pushed back as the force of the dart penetrated inside and carried on. Its head finally came to a stop when it impacted the back of the cave and left a crater in its wake. Logan had already reloaded when the Titanoboa's head had hit the back of the cave. And with his sights centered on the underside of its head, Logan fired again. The second dart hit a centimeter to the left of where Logan was aiming, but he didn't care.
By the time Logan had loaded the third round into [Sidewinder], the Titanoboa had curled itself up and protected its head heavily with its body. Logan just clicked his tongue and aimed for a small gap in its defense. Correcting his aim slightly to account for the scope bouncing, Logan fired again. Through the scope, Logan saw a brief spark from the left of where he was targeting.
Annoyed, Logan reloaded and took aim again, and fired the fourth round. The fourth round made it through the gap and exploded in a brief light that Logan managed to catch. As Logan went to load the fifth shot, he sensed something off and swung an ash sword behind him. As he did, a Creep had jumped at him but was cut in half due to Logan's attack. Looking back, Grimm of all types surrounded Logan as he laid next to [Sidewinder].
Logan: "I'm not surprised." Logan grumbled. "The Kingdoms did classify the Grimm Titans as Princes and Counts. So it stands to reason that they can control other Grimm. I'm just an idiot for not putting up traps." Logan said to himself as he made a flame wall to keep the Grimm back. "But first, the Titanoboa."
As Logan turned back towards the cliff, he got back into position. Looking through the scope, Logan saw that the Titanoboa was getting out of the cave. Logan just smirked at the sight. And with a flick of a switch Logan had nearby, the explosives detonated.
Logan: "Well, at least it's an idiot..." Logan mumbled to himself as he watched the cave collapse on top of it.
