Depths of Magic

Logan grumbled as he still felt pins and needles in his legs as he soaked in his and Glynda's apartment bathtub after nearly twenty minutes of soaking. The reason for this was due to Glynda giving Logan a 'treat' after he pampered her when he made her mad. Needless to say, Glynda's 'treat' made Logan numb; his lower body especially. But Logan couldn't be mad at her because it wasn't all that bad for him, plus if the consequences were to happen, then it's a bonus.

.

Even though he was worried about the possibility that Glynda got pregnant, Logan's main worry was the Brother Gods, their plan, and whatever else that's completely impossible for normal people of this world. Be it the near future or the far-flung. All he could do is pray that whatever happens, he can handle it if it's to protect those he cares about. That's all that he wishes to do.

.

Logan: 'While I'm in here, might as well read through that tome I borrowed.' Logan thought as he covered the top of the tub with a layer of ash and pulled the tome out of his [Inventory]. 'The best place to start is the beginning.' He thought as he opened the tome to the first page.

.

'Magic is the ability to use the mana in the air in conjuncture with the mana in one's body to perform feats of miracles that normal people cannot do. This is the truth about magic.

Magic is both precious to hold and a thing to fear as it can help save one from Death's grasp or annihilate an entire nation in the blink of an eye. No one should ever see magic as 'just' an everyday ability that one can use if they can use it.

There are records of accomplished mages who have had their magic backfire when even using the simplest of spells due to their arrogance. Never take magic for granted as it will bite back should you do. I, Shun Drivair, have had this happen to me as well.'

.

Logan: 'Well, at least the author is speaking from experience.' Logan thought as he read the introductory section. 'And that's one way of warning people from getting too cocky with magic...' Logan thought as he read. 'But still, I didn't realize any spell I could use can backfire. I'll have to be weary in the future.'

.

'Now, what is magic?

A simple question with numerous answers.

The best way to start is, what is mana?

Mana is the corrupted form of Aether, the purest form of energy. While it is possible to use aether, it is highly volatile and prone to exploding randomly if not contained properly. But back to mana.

Mana is the building block of any magic spell. Without it, the spell will not work and all you've drawn are useless runes and circles.

Now, the main components of a spell are Mana, which is required for the spell to be powered; Runes, which form the bases of the spell; and the Circle, which encompasses everything so that the spell functions properly. The result of these components is called the spell formula. Without one of these components, the spell could not work, just cycle mana, or explode.'

.

Logan: 'It's literally the basis of the basics of spell making. Salem made sure that both me and Glynda understood that.' Logan thought as he scanned through the rest of the introductory section before moving on to the 'meat' of the tome.

.

'Chapter 1: Flame magic

The basis of flame or fire magic is encompassing fuel, oxygen, and an ignition source all in one formula. The easiest form of this magic is just making a small flame on the tip of one's finger. The use of runes in the spell modifies what the easiest form of the spell can do. Such as forming a whip made out of fire or a flaming lance that then is launched towards a target. It all depends on the runes used. But which runic language to use is up to the caster.

Take the Dalecarlian runes for example. While small in form, they can make a compact spell formula quite easily but has a high mana cost to use properly. The runes are easy to understand as well and are often the first ones a mage masters but are then traded out for a more efficient runic language.

Some even have debate certain runic languages are better suited for certain spell formulas. The Dalecarlian runes are considered the best for any flame-type spell formulas. But this is only speculation at best with little to no supporting arguments. And through extensive research, no one runic language is better suited for any elemental-spell formula.'

.

Logan: "Odd, it feels as if part of the paragraph is missing." Logan mumbled to himself as he finished the explanation of Flame-type spells. "It just suddenly jumps into what each rune from Dalecarlian runes does to the basic spell formula."

.

The more Logan read on, the more that it became apparent that a large amount of what was written in the tome was removed. At first, he thought it was just minor things but it became more obvious that a lot of the information was incorrect according to the knowledge he got from Salem. And even more was removed purposely, as if someone didn't want something found out. Logan couldn't help but think that someone other than Salem survived the Brother God's purge. As Logan went to read some more of the tome, Glynda walked in, in nothing but a towel.

.

Glynda: "Room for one more?" Glynda asked, a sultry smile on her face.

Logan: 'Aw, screw it.' Logan thought as he threw the tome into his [Inventory], not caring since Glynda already knew about it, and removed his ash for Glynda to get in. 'I may be a fool, but I'm a fool that loves his hot wife!'

.

Logan, who had already spent close to three hours in the tub, warmed it up for Glynda as she dropped her towel. Logan didn't hesitate to wolf whistle at her when the towel hit the floor. Glynda lightly blushed and hopped in with Logan, snuggling up in his chest with a content smile on her face. Logan enjoyed the feeling of holding her in his arms as one of his hands moved to make her shiver in delight. When Glynda gave Logan a certain look, ash covered the bathroom's walls, floor, and ceiling; soundproofing the room the best Logan could do. Afterward, Logan and Glynda went at each other for a few rounds. No sounds escaped but some thumps were semi-audible. Thankfully, Glynda managed to lie later and say that she was moving furniture around and dropped a few. Logan was proud of his work as Glynda laid passed out from their romp, but he still felt pins and needles in his legs.

.

Logan: "Worth it." Logan said as his legs felt like someone stabbed them repeatedly.

.

{RWBY: Fireborn}

.

Logan: "Alright! All First-years, this way to the amphitheater!" Logan shouted at the growing crowd of fresh students coming from the Bullhead port. "Follow the arrows! Don't make me go looking for you! You'll regret it!" His flames making a massive series of arrows directing them to where they need to go.

.

Today was the start of the new school year for Beacon and Logan was unlucky enough to draw the post responsible for guiding the fresh meat into the amphitheater. Having already knocked out several brats that thought they owned the place, Logan was already done with today. He just wanted to go and sleep for the rest of the day, but couldn't as he had to attend his classes as he was still a student while being a part-time teacher.

.

As he thought this, he backhanded another upstart that tried groping a girl's behind, for the third time.

.

Logan: "Seriously, sooner or later, I'm just gonna burn their asses the next time I have to deal with another upstart, pervert, or 'young master' wannabe." Logan muttered to himself as he used his ash to bind, gag, and throw the pervert into a pile of others like him. "This is the thirteenth one already..."

Ruby: "Working hard I see." Ruby, the ever-so-cheerful girl, shouted at Logan as she rushed up to him. "I see you've been fishing. That's quite the haul you got there."

Logan: "Hey, Ruby." Logan replied as Ruby jumped onto his shoulder. "How do you like your fish? Baked, Sauté, Pan broil, Grilled, Deep-fried?"

.

The more Logan said, the more the pile of bodies started to squirm, and to add more fuel to the fire, Logan held a fireball in his hand. Logan and Ruby chuckled at the terrified look on their faces as the fireball started floating close to them. Some of the older students who knew Logan just giggled at the fact that the worst he would do to them was lightly singe them at most. That was until Logan was smacked in the back of the head by an annoyed Salem.

.

Salem: "No messing with the new students." She ordered Logan, who was surprised that it wasn't his wife, Glynda.

Logan: "I'm surprised it was you and not Glynda." Logan responded with wonder in his voice.

Salem: "She's busy with paperwork that needs her signature." Salem answered Logan's unasked question. "As I said before, no messing with the new students," Salem repeated which caused the pile to relax, "that's my job and I highly enjoy it."

Ruby: "That smile is evil." Ruby whispered in Logan's ear when Salem turned and smiled at the pile which froze them in fear. "Remind me not to make her mad."

Logan: "Ruby, I have." Logan whispered back as the two slowly backed away from Salem. "It's when she smiles calmly at you should you start to run."

.

Logan and Ruby left Salem with the pile of bodies after telling her what each one did to end up like that. Needless to say, the pile of filth was begging with their eyes for Logan to come back and torment them. Salem was scaring them with just a smile and untold horrors, while Logan was talking about how to cook them like they were fish. Ruby left Logan after chatting with him for a bit and once the assembly for the new students started, Logan stood at the back and wished for the day to be over.

.

Finally, after a grueling eight hours for normal students and ten for Logan, the day ended on a high note courtesy of Jaune Arc. How? Some dumba** tried to make himself seem better than Jaune and pushed Jaune away from Pyrrha as the two were cuddling. Logan, Team RWBY, and several third years saw this and did nothing but enjoy the show with several recording it. The guy didn't even get to say his name before Jaune calmly walked up to him and dropped him in one punch. Logan had flashbacks to Guy Gardener vs Batman vibes from the entire thing. Later when asked why he didn't do anything despite being a Teacher, Logan laughed and said that the guy had it coming.

.

Truthfully, Logan was just too tired to care and needed a pick-me-up just to deal with what he had on his plate and coffee wasn't gonna cut it this time. Plus, the guy that tried to woo Pyrrha was one of those 'young master' types that Logan had to put up with that morning. It was safe to say, Logan took great pleasure in seeing the guy's face getting deformed by Jaune's punch.

.

Logan: "Hello?" Logan asked when he felt his scroll vibrate.

Little Miss' (On-Call): "Finally! Do you know how long it took for me to contact you?" Little Miss' shouted into Logan's ear. "Look, you remember that New Faunus Group that you asked me to look into?"

Logan: "Yea, I've been wondering when you were gonna call." Logan replied when he heard Little Miss' voice. "It's been a few months, what happened?"

Little Miss': "That group attacked us!" She shouted again followed by her screaming shite do to something in the background. "Sorry about that, I'm getting stitches after a hit squad from them found my hideout. Me and a few of my family managed to fend them off but we had to abandon the hideout. So far my bar, several hideouts, and a good chunk of my family is gone because of their suicidal tactics and freaking bomb vests! Whatever this group is, is desperate to remain hidden from everyone and anyone."

.

Logan: "I'm thinking about takeout, what do you want?" Logan asked her using one of her more rarer codes she had to do business with.

Little Miss': "Your thinking about takeout at a time like this?!" She shouted into Logan's ear for the third time. "Find me when you get the chance, you know where. Gods, I need a 'Blood and Sands'."

.

With that comment, Little Miss' hung up and left Logan trying to remember the location she told him in the code 'Blood and Sands'. Soon Logan remembered that he kept a notebook in his [Inventory] that held the translated code. Once he got the code translated, Logan made a mental note to clean his [Inventory] out because he can't remember what exactly he has in there.

(Yes, that was an excuse to actually go back through and fix a sh*t ton of things Logan should have had. You may laugh at my expense.)
