First Day
Professor Skyler slowly walked towards the classroom, it was his first year at the university and they had already given him an advisory class.
The classroom was huge. There was a huge screen at the very front and a table in front of it, Skyler looked up and was overwhelmed, there were layers and layers of chairs arranged as if it was an auditorium. And unlike any other classroom his been in, this one was air-conditioned.
He placed his suitcase on the table and began to prepare. It was 6:50 in the morning and there were no students yet. "Sheshhh, there's even an aircon." He turned it on at 18°. He then sat down and reviewed the lesson.
------Class hours------
"Greetings to you all! I'm Skyler Julius, you can call me Prof. Julius or Sir Sky. I will be your professor in Psychology from today onwards. Any questions?"
The class was in shock, "such a young professor, can he teach us?" The students began whispering and gossiping. Seeing this, Skyler began to panic, "Are the students looking down on me?", there was tension in the room. But he did not want to look weak in front of students again. Skyler took a deep breath and continued.
"Can anybody tell me what Materialism is in terms of psychology?"
"Can we please have Mr Paulo."
The so-called student stood up, chuckled, briefly answered the question, and said "I believe-" Before the student could even say his answer, Professor Julius interrupted him. "In this class, you are not to use the terms "I believe and I think", Are you not sure of what you are saying?" with these words, Mr. Paolo took his seat uneasily. The other students were also shocked and so stopped murmuring.
Seeing this, he was a bit relaxed. He didn't intend to intimidate his students, but he was simply afraid that he might get bullied or be taken advantage of because of him letting his guard down. He thought it was better that they were afraid of him.
"Take note that materialism is the idea that all of our mental states are caused by physical states of the brain. On the other hand, Dualism is the ubiquitous and intuitive feeling that our conscious mind is separate from our physical bodies. This theory has..." he continued to blubber and teach the rest of the lesson at ease.
"That's it for today, kindly do an advanced reading about the basic overview of the neurophysiology of the brain. Class dismissed."
After his class, Prof. Julius went to get some coffee at the faculty lounge.
"I still have half a day to finish and I'm already feeling tired." Skyler sighed.
As he was trying to make his coffee, he realized that there wasn't any hot water left so he made some. As the water boiled, he wanted to make some black coffee and he knew there was some on the upper shelf. He grabbed a small chair to look for the coffee, but it wasn't there. He tried to look for it in the other cabinet, but as he tried to open it, his foot slipped. Luckily, someone catches him.
"Are you okay?" said the person as he gently placed him down. "Oh- yes, yes, thank you so much!" Skyler turned around to face the man. "Are you looking for this?" said the man as he waved the pack of black coffee. "Yes, Mr. I'm trying to make a black coffee."-Skyler "Could you make me one too?" the man smiled as he asked Skyler.
Seeing the man smile made Skyler blush. He's quite handsome, he thought.
The man saw how Skyler's face blushed and let out a teasing smirk. He leaned towards Skyler and said "Is something wrong?" and tilted his head. Before Skyler could even reply, the bell interrupted them and so Skyler fled like Cinderella and headed to his class.
Skyler's POV on his way to his class
"What was that?" How could I blush just because the guy smiled at me? I just got over that shit of a boyfriend I had and this feeling again? I didn't know how or what to reply to him, thank God the bell rang. "Take a deep breath, Skyler. You still have this class." he thought as he tapped his cheeks repeatedly.
------Hours Later------
Skyler let out a deep sigh as he finished his first day working at the university. After he fixed his stuff, he went straight to the faculty to sign off for the day. As he drew near to the faculty, he could hear a round of applause. As he entered, he saw the guy he met earlier. He was a new teacher.
He placed his work stuff on his desk and went to "formally" introduce himself to the man. Skyler walked up to the man and greeted him. "Hi! It's a pleasure to meet you, again. I'm Skyler Julius, but you can call me Sky." he said as he raised his hand to shake hands with the man. "The pleasure is all mine, Prof. Julius. I'm Theodor by the way, Theodor Collineal." replied the man as he shook Skyler's hand. Theodor continued to shake hands with Skyler while Skyler was already beginning to feel awkward.
A loud voice from outside the faculty suddenly shouted "Theodor, are you coming?"
"I guess I'll be going now. Nice to see you again." Theodor grabbed his stuff waved goodbye to the rest of the teachers and then headed out.
As the man left, Skyler went to the biometric to sign out. Afterward, he went to grab his stuff and went home.
------The Next Day------
Professor Julius went to teach his class as he should.
"Good day, class!"
"The discussion for today is about the basic overview of the neuropsychology of the human brain." Professor Julius grabbed the record book and began to walk towards the students. "Ms. Zita?" A student stood up. The professor looked at the girl and asked "Can you please tell me the relationship of the brain and behavior in terms of neuropsychology?" Professor Julius asked. "An appropriate behavior can be triggered anytime as it was enabled with the brain receiving information as well as internal and external influences." The girl answered, she remained standing in anticipation for the professor's approval or compliment. Professor Julius began to explain saying "That's correct, Ms. Zita. You can take your seat. Now- Neuropsychology is a scientific field which involves the study of the association of an individual's biological brain processes with psychological processes." with that being said, he turned around to face the screen and then started his presentation. "A famous philosopher named Rene Descartes once asked himself "Is this a dream? Now can anybody..."
