The magic

He killed a man. He looked down at his injured hand. The blood on the wound had clotted and hardened against the surface of the open wound in a way he found very unpleasant.

He wanted that sight gone from his hand but his stomach stung for no reason that he prioritized his meal over cleaning his injury.

The food came in on a table carried in by two men. He smiled at the lady that followed the in. She was very much on the cute side and was not his type but she had a very pleasant and comfortable smile.

"I will serve your meal, your highness," she told him after bowing.

Liam smiled and nodded as she sat beside him and opened all the covered plates before him. The soup was not to his liking as he would have preferred a hamburger or a sandwich to that but the aroma that filled his nose was inviting enough to have him swallow saliva.

Before he could reach for the spoon, the lady picked the spoon and dipped it in the plate of soup. She raised it to his lips with a soft smile. He returned her smile as he found her to be a very courageous woman.

The state he was covered in blood as he had walked through a battlefield was terrifying and should be feared by any woman but she seemed oblivious of it all as she was sitting on the blood-stained bed.

She piqued his interest as he turned to look into her eyes for as many details as he could see before opening his mouth and taking in that spoon, she brought so close to his lips.

His right hand was injured but that does not make him weak as he was an ambidexter. He could use both hands with ease while on earth and he has been doing so since he came to this world.

He did not need her to feed him but he accepted the generous offer of the cute lady with comfort as he also felt lazy after the eventful night he experienced.

"Aren't you bothered by the smell of blood?" he asked her seriously as she brought another spoon of soup to his lips.

"No, I do not mind the smell of blood. I was asked to kill a chicken for you this morning and there was blood," she told him maintaining her enchanting smile.

He laughed at her joke and shook his head. He did not believe what she said. He has yet to see a woman who could kill an animal as large as the chicken on the table.

"You are funny," he laughed and took a slice of the roasted chicken on the table.

"No, it is not a joke, your highness," she told him with that soft voice that exuded innocence.

"You are good with knives?" he asked as he saw the seriousness in her eyes. "You are a butcher?"

"Yes, I am. I was the woman allowed to serve you because of the injury you had. They needed a woman who would not die easily, your highness," she replied to him with her head bowed as she helped him cut a slice of meat from the roasted chicken.

He furrowed his brows and narrowed his eyes as he wondered what she meant by that.

"A woman who took care of you was killed and we have heard that you killed her. Most of my sister would not come to take care of you," she revealed when she saw his confused expression which was not what she expected. She would not be surprised if he had gripped her throat and told her that she would be the next.

"I killed a woman who was taking care of me?" Liam asked as he understood her words. "I would not kill a woman if unnecessary. She killed herself."

She nodded fearlessly as she did not bother to hide the fact that she did not believe him.

He was surprised by her fearlessness because it was far from what he expected from her. her smile when she entered his room was bold but he only found her to be bolder than he thought.

"She tried to kill me," he told her sincerely although he knew it was necessary to tell her the truth. "She killed herself when I wanted to know who sent her. So, many people are after my life.

"Someone tried to kill me. I am sure you did not hear the whole story," he reported to her as he found it very easy to talk to her.

"No one out there believes that your highness," the lady replied without hiding her disbelief.

Liam smiled realizing how he just shared it all with her expecting her to believe him but she did not believe him. It felt to face death multiple times than he would have ever experienced in the entire life he had continued to live on earth.

He shrugged and looked at the slice of meat she brought close to his lips and he opened his mouth. "You must be a good fighter," he told her after eating the meat.

"No, I am only a butcher," she replied to him firmly meeting his gaze with her clear eyes.

"Then why did you think you would survive it if I decide to kill you," he asked as his gaze moved from her thin wrist to her small arm that looked so fragile, that he could snap it into two.

She laughed and shook her head. "I was certain that I will survive it but I was the only one who could come among my sisters," she replied to him.

He sighed and looked away from her clear eyes that seemed to hold no secret in them. He remembered that voice that spoke to him last night, "kill him," the voice had ordered and he obeyed.

Does that mean he would go around killing anyone the voice asks him to kill because he can not control himself?

"People must so much fear towards a prince without magic, right?" he asked her perplexed by the irony of it all.

She laughed softly and shook her head. "A man without magic and man with the ability to render magic powerless mean two different things," she told him with a hint that he was finding hard to understand.

She did not say anything to him and he remained silent for the rest of the meal but his eyes did not stray from her as he tried to understand what she meant by that statement.
