"Sir! We have bad news! It looks like that the enemy soldiers have managed to push through our lines!" a soldier rushed over as he bore the bad news.
Rage filled his eyes as he heard the report being brought to him. "I can see that you bastard! Tell me a way to fix this problem. How did they even manage to push through the lines?" The rage was building up in James. He barely managed to hold himself from unsheathing his sword and cutting the throat of the of the soldier who brought the message.
"Father. This does not look well, we have to do something!" it was Edgar's voice that called out this time. He was clearly worried about the whole ordeal. His previously wicked smile turned barren the instant that the lines at the front started to crumble. No one had expected that their plans and strong lines would falter so easily.
"I know!" Jake shouted out. He was clearly not happy with the impulse and insight of his son. Ignoring him, he looked back at the guard. "How was this possible?"
"Sir, I am not certain but…"
"But what!" Jake's anger was getting worse, the longer the situation continued.
"But, rumors have it that one of their soldiers jumped across the spears and… and he managed to land behind the heavy infantry."
"What!" There was a surprise hidden behind the angered response. Looking over to one of his men he continued, "Didn't you say that this tactic was foul proof? What is this mess?"
"I am trebly sorry sir. But I did not expect that…" He was not able to finish his sentence, as Jake interrupted him.
"Did not expect… Did not expect what?" Jake's sword was already swinging in the air. Because of his instincts, Jake did not realize that he had already unsheathed his sword.
"S… Sir? What are y… you planning to do with that?" the soldier who proposed the tactic asked with a shuttering voice.
Not even looking at the soldier, he watched back at the battlefield. Grinding his teeth he started to think about some possibilities to do. However, any options that he thought of, failed in the end.
"Father… I think that is maybe better for us to…" Edgar was not able to finish voicing his opinion. The enraged eyes of Jake stopped him from continuing him from voicing his thoughts.
"You think what?"
However, he was being forced to say them. "I think that it is best for us to… to call back the men and retrea…" Cold sweat dripped from his face. He was not able to finish the last word. This was because the edge of Jack's sword was currently resting on his neck. Taking a gulp, he could feel the cold metal touch his skin.
"One more word and next time I will not stop myself." It was clear that Jake was not happy with the words that were being spoken by his son. However, there was a certain truth behind the words that were being spoken by Edgar. The situation looked grim. They had to reorganize the troops.
Thinking about the situation a bit more, he slowly lowered the sword which was pressed on the skin of Edgar's neck. However, the rage in his eye did not calm down. Instead, the fire was getting fiercer, realizing the situation. The same crept through his spines.
Feeling the sword leave, Edgar's hands quickly went to his neck, checking if there were any cuts.
As for Jake, he started to understand the situation. His demeanor would initially not allow it, but it was better for them to retreat back now, than losing his army. Grinding his teeth, he made the difficult decision. "Sound the retreat… We have to reform the soldiers."
Hearing the order, several soldiers rushed out towards the front as they were shouting out, "Sound the retreat! Sound the retreat."
Orders continued down the line, "We will reform the soldiers! Retreat"
With the retreat being given, the crumbling lines of the Herewealth soldiers quickly started to make their way back. There was a fear in them from being the next target of the incoming soldiers. So they were racing with each other to get further away from the allied soldiers.
