Getting closer into the fray, James could finally make out the locations of the enemy soldiers. Many of them were heavily armored, blocking the patch for his men to advance. 'This does not look good.' He thought as he was slowly making his way forward.
"You two go to the left and help the soldiers over there," James ordered around the soldiers. Pointing at another few soldiers, he added on, "You three with the spears try to poke a hole to the right. We have to push through!"
However, only one person out of the five actually moved. Many of they did not like James, as his reputation was rather bad. Grinding his teeth, he got irritated by the ordeal. Instead, he looks forward back again.
His soldiers were halted at this point, not having the chance to push forward anymore. The frustration of what just happened started to fuel his anger. Wanted to take it out of something, or somewhere, he started to inspect the enemy positions.
The enemy was well dug in. The front was filled with large and heavy shields, which blocked the way. Out of these shields, large spears and pikes protruded out, occasionally poking the ones that came close.
'I have to do something!' James thought as he was taking in the scenario. With every passing second, the enemy lines started to close in, as they slowly started to move closer towards them. Their goal was to finish off James' army at that point.
'Come on, I need to find a weakness. I cannot attack straight. Their legs are also not revealed, so that is also impossible… the only place is jumping towards their formation.' James started to think about a possible solution to the problem that they were in. 'If I get a boost from someone, maybe I will catch the enemy by surprise. With that, I might be able to break their defenses.'
James was not sure about the whole idea. Even in his head, the idea sounded stupid. However, at this point, there was no other option left open. He had to act and quickly.
Looking over at one of the soldiers who looked in distress, James started to address him. "You over there. I know that you hate the situation we are currently in. But I might know a way which will help us out."
The soldier had a confused look on his face. He was not sure if he should believe James. "I know that we have to get out of here."
"Then listen to me!" James quickened his speech. "I will try to jump over their spear and attack them from the air. If it works out, we will be able to break their positions."
"And if it doesn't work?"
"Then, that means we have one less option to try out."
"You're crazy!" The soldiers said. However, he did not disagree with the reasoning of James. The situation looked grim, and they had to act fast. Even if that was rash. "Ok, I am in."
Taking up position, the soldier waited for James to rush in and use him as a liftoff, to hopefully clear the reach of the spears and pikes and make it to the enemy lines.
To makes sure that he would become lighter, James took out a few of his armor pieces, which would weigh him down. Making sure that he had gotten rid of the armor pieces, he looked once more at the closing in enemy position.
"Quickly! We have to move. Now!" The soldier could feel the pressure, which was closing in. His knees were slightly bent, making a stepping point for James. As for his hands, they formed into a bowl. The idea was that the moment James stepped on his palms, the soldier would use all his powers to catapult James towards the enemy position. After that point, the only that was left for them, was to pray. Hoping that James would clear the distance and be able to break through the position.
"Taking a deep breath, James started to run towards the soldier. As he had gotten in front of him, he stepped on the knee of the soldier. As his other foot touched the hands of the soldier, he felt a heavy push. This push slowly pushed him towards the air.
Closing his eyes, James waited at the moment to jump. In an instant, his eyes opened up, as he put all his powers to his leg, to jump towards the enemy position.
