Rose's In Flames: Chapter 6

Chapter 6

That following morning after the incident at the old amusement park, Logan woke up first. He saw Snowy sleeping beside him. For most of the night, she had covered and kept him warm underneath her wing. Logan sat up and he spreads his fingers out so he can stroke Snowy on the back of her head. Snowy could feel that Logan was touching her, and she was purring loudly now. "I'll be down in five minutes," she said groggily.

"Alright," he said. Logan looked outside from Snowy's curtain to see what the weather was like. He stood up and got on his feet. Snowy had a clock on her dresser and he read that the time was 9:00. So, he got ready, and he groomed himself and he walked downstairs. Then, he went into the kitchen. Gwendolyn was already awake but, she hadn't made breakfast yet. However, she was wearing a cute vampire costume. Logan stared at her with interest. It surprised him.

Gwendolyn saw that Logan was sitting at the table, "Do you like it?" Gwendolyn asked. Gwendolyn messed around with her costume a little bit before walking over to Logan. He smiled at her, but he said nothing except look at the costume.

"I like it, Gwendolyn," he answered. Logan wished he had a costume now, but it was too late to purchase one.

Gwendolyn sat down at the table and, she promised that breakfast would be ready soon. "Yes." Gwendolyn began. "Us dragons are self-starters. And today we are going to finish the decor before noon," As Logan eased into in his seat, there was a knock on the front door. He sighed because he just sat down, but he went to open it anyway, and Frost greeted him. "Hey, Frost," Logan said.

Frost wasn't wearing any costume yet. She already said to Logan that she preferred to pass out candy to kids this year. "Hey, how are you doing today?" asked Frost. Logan shrugged. "Well, I'm excited for Halloween tonight. Anyways, come in, Frost,"

Frost smiled at him, and she brushed by Logan. "Hey, Gwendolyn." Frost greeted as she headed into the kitchen. She pulled out and sat down on a chair and, Logan followed suit.

"Here," Gwendolyn said. Gwendolyn poured something from a glass jar, and then she passed a glass of milk over to Logan. "Thank you," said Logan. He curiously looked at it for a moment and he held it to his mouth. He smelled it first, and he felt hesitant to drink it, but he does so anyway.

Logan drank all of it and, he enjoyed it to his surprise despite the unfamiliar smell. He assumed it was cow's milk but a different type, "Wow, I haven't had milk in ages and, this is good!" Logan said.

Gwendolyn chuckled. "No, that's not cow's milk if that's what you're thinking, Logan. That's Light fury milk actually."

Frost laughed and she pounded her paw on the table, and Gwendolyn snickered. Logan choked up some of the milk back up and onto the table. "Ew!!" Logan shouted with dismay. He was disgusted and he pressed his hand against his face in embarrassment while wiping his mouth with his other hand.

Logan's face became palpable. "Would you like another glass?" Gwendolyn asked.

"No thanks, I'm good," Logan answered, quickly.

Snowy woke up upstairs, and she stretched before she prepared herself to get ready for the day. She brushed her pearly white teeth, and she checked herself for anything else before going down to walk downstairs and meet up with Gwendolyn, Logan, and Frost.

"The thing is," Logan began, "Oh hey, Snowy. How are you?" Snowy smiled warmly at him. "I'm doing good, thanks Logan. Hey, mom." Snowy sits beside him with her tail resting on his leg again. Frost didn't happen to notice. "I'm doing good, Snowy. Thank you." said Gwendolyn, flatly. However, Snowy detected a sound of sarcasm coming from her voice.

"We have some work to do today to make the house appear more haunted," Frost told Snowy. Snowy loves Halloween, and she's loved it ever since she was a younger dragon. Halloween would take back memories to Gwendolyn that she forgot all about. She remembered when she would take Snowy out trick or treating when Snowy was her only child. Gwendolyn misses those days when Snowy was her only child, and when she would take her places. "She's almost all grown up now," Gwendolyn thought. "I wish she would stay young forever,"

"I miss those days. I would do anything to have them back." Gwendolyn looked at the mirror that was on her right, and she looked at herself for being an older mother now. She longed in her thirties again when she had Snowy.

Frost left the room to get the Halloween supplies from last year when she helped Snowy decorate her house. Last year, it was Frost who made Gwendolyn's house look spookier than most of the houses that were down the block. Gwendolyn's house was in the corner of the neighborhood that was surrounded by two other houses each side of hers. Behind Gwendolyn's house was a forest area, and there were some railroad tracks about half a mile away from where the house is, and Gwendolyn's neighborhood also had the forest which hid the old amusement park from view. Long ago however, you could see the fireworks shoot up into the sky from the carnival.

Rico and Ivy were coming from upstairs. Only Suri was still sleeping. She had a long day yesterday while trying to catch up on homework. Another thing that Suri is stressed out about is the test that she has to take next week. Suri was worried about the fact that she was going to fail. Her mom would always assure her that if you study hard enough, you'll pass whatever test would come your way.

"Hey, Rico? Ivy?" Frost stated as she saw them enter into the hallway to go to the kitchen, "Would you like to help decorate the house today with me?" Rico and Ivy were excited, and immediately they hurried into the attic to help find and retrieve the spooky Halloween décor.

Only Snowy and Logan were still in the kitchen as Gwendolyn left to show Frost where she put the Halloween supplies away from last year.

"Would you like to go out?" Snowy asked. Logan nodded, and he headed over to the cabinet to pick a glass so he could have some water. The fish from yesterday made him feel unusually thirsty. "Yeah, I know that fish makes you thirsty," Snowy said. Logan nodded. He poured himself some water, and he drank it without saying a word. He set the glass back down after he finished drinking, "I know just the place," said Logan. "But I think it would only be fair if we took your mom out too. I'm sure she would love to see it."

Snowy had no idea why Logan would want to take her mom. But it was okay with her.

"Mom!" Snowy yelled. "Logan wants to talk to you!"

Perhaps Logan wanted to take Gwendolyn and Snowy out so he could get a better feeling for them. Logan was becoming more used to Gwendolyn's presence now, and he wasn't as afraid to listen to Gwendolyn speak. Although, she is still the firm mother she was a week ago.

Logan stepped out of the room for a minute to retrieve his jacket. He went upstairs, and he found Frost in Snowy's room. "Oh, hey Frost," Logan said. He looked at her, and Frost turned around and she smiled at him in an awkward manner.

Frost approaches him, and Logan watches Frost as if she might try something, but she only brushes past him without saying anything. "What was that for?" he thought. He watches Frost walk downstairs and he brushes it off like nothing happened.

Logan's jacket was sitting on Gwendolyn's art table, and he picked up the jacket and headed outside to see what the progress was on the Halloween decorations. Logan managed to sneak a glance at Gwendolyn's clock, and it was already past 10:30 already. When Logan walked outside, he was surprised that it was warm for Halloween. Usually, Halloween night has the worst weather. Last year it was cold for everyone, and trick or treat was over early, and the year before it rained. Logan couldn't remember a Halloween where it didn't rain, or when it wasn't chilly. Gwendolyn was already setting up the decor out front with the help of Ivy and Rico. "Oh, and Logan?" Gwendolyn said. "Could you grab that for me, please?" Gwendolyn pointed out a particular decoration she used last year. "Be careful not to drop it. It's old." Logan picks it up carefully and hands it to Gwendolyn. She winks at him. "Thank you, dear."

Ivy could see Saxor coming toward them. Ivy went to greet Saxor, who was too busy staring at Gwendolyn. "Your mom is hot," he whispered. Saxor stared at Gwendolyn's body, and Ivy smacked him across the head teasingly.

Logan greeted Saxor, and smiled. "Don't you have any plans tonight?" Logan asked him. Saxor shook his head.

"No, my parents never celebrate Halloween," he answered. "My parents only celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas. However, I celebrate Halloween on my own. They told me I could do whatever I want with my friends. So, this is how I want to spend today with you guys."

Logan also asked Saxor if he was hanging out with them for the rest of the day instead of a couple of hours.

"Yes, he is," Ivy answered for him.

Logan could see that Saxor was nervous, but he appeared frightened about something.

"What's wrong, Saxor?" Ivy asks.

"I would prefer if we spoke about it somewhere else," he replied. "I'll see you later, Logan."

Saxor and Ivy headed inside while leaving Gwendolyn and Logan together.

Logan didn't ask Gwendolyn any questions that would help break the ice between them, so he asked the best question he thought he should ask, "So, how old are you?" Logan asked. "Gwendolyn, if you don't mind me asking."

Gwendolyn scoffed as she was uncoiling the fall, Halloween nights. Then, she looked at Logan if he was being serious or not. "Did you know that dragons' still fall in the same category as never ask a dragoness her age?" Logan rubbed his fingers with embarrassment, and Gwendolyn looked at Logan while slowly blinking at him with increasing awkwardness. She shook her head, and said, "Me? Well, I'm 55," she answered. "Light furies like me can live up to 200 years,"

"And my mom, Snowy's grandma, is already 85," Gwendolyn added. "My great-grandmother is still alive, and she's 130."

Logan remembered studying Dragon lifespans in his sophomore year. He remembers that assignment, and that was right before he met Snowy. Logan remembered Frost introducing him to her. Logan recalled meeting Snowy for the first time in health class when Frost introduced Snowy to him so they could be project partners. He remembered that it had to do something with the reproductive system of dragons. That was a great day, and he remembered passing that project with Snowy's help.

"I think Snowy needs you right now," said Gwendolyn as she finally untangled the fall lights. "I'm too busy to do anything else, Logan." Logan understood, and he went back inside to find Snowy, only to see her get ready to head out.

"Is mom coming with us?" she asked. Logan shook her head and replied, "No, she said she's too busy. Let's go."

Snowy and Logan headed out, and Logan planned on taking her towards the woods. "Where are we going?" Snowy asked. Her heart skipped a beat, and she started asking herself questions of what Logan might do. Where was he taking her? What was Logan planning to do? Did he have something special to give Snowy? Like a ring or a necklace or something?

Secretly, Logan planned to take Snowy to a beautiful spring in the middle of the woods that nobody knows. It's a different wooded area, aside from the one where the amusement park is. Logan had discovered the spring when he was little, and he was the only one who knew about it. He had accidentally found it when he was chasing a rabbit. Logan was surprised that nobody still doesn't know about the spring after all of these years.

"I don't think I've ever been this way," Snowy said. She walks closer to Logan. Logan felt her presence looming against him. "I love you," Snowy thought. She looks at Logan while smiling to herself.

Meanwhile, Frost was heading outside, where she met Gwendolyn.

"Hey, do you know where Snowy and Logan went?" she asks.

Gwendolyn looked at Frost, a bit confused. "Why would you want to know where they were?" she answered. Frost was appalled at that answer, and she felt angry that Gwendolyn was interfering with her love life. I mean, if you think about it, Frost needs to know where Logan is. After all, Logan, is her crush.

"Please, Gwendolyn?" she said. Everything that Frost thought about Logan was up to Gwendolyn now. All she had to do was tell Frost where they went so, she could explain about what she thinks about Logan since Frost knew him longer.

Gwendolyn knew that Frost had feelings for Logan also. She knew it would create problems, so she told Frost she didn't know where they went. "My guess is they went into town," Gwendolyn told Frost. "I suppose if you find them, you three could give me a hand with the decorations?"

Frost walked towards town, mumbling to herself. "I wish I never introduced Logan to Snowy," she thought.
