Chapter Seventy-Three

"Please put me down." He looked pitiful at that and obviously didn't want to put me down at all, but he did and I hurried to stand behind the King who was gapping at the man.

"Why did you run behind him?" Cyril asks and my reply is instantaneous.

"Because your weird. Really weird. Seriously cradling me like I'm the world? Weird." He looked thunderstruck.

"Weird? How is it weird? It's normal to protect the princess of spirits isn't it? Humans are weird... Yes definitely weird..." The King kind of stared blankly at him for a long while...

I wandered alone later that day in the Library, having purposefully dodged both Cyril and Cross. I picked out the book I wanted and then climbed up on top of the bookshelf in-between the gap between it and the ceiling. It wasn't much of a gap, but I had spread a blanket on top and curled up there to read. I was less likely to be disturbed after all. I heard footsteps that sounded like lieutenant Cross's but I remained curled up with my book. Until I felt movement on the bookshelf and Lieutenant appeared at my feet.

"How did you find me?" I asked in amazement. I wasn't visible from the ground... Did he place tracker magic on me... Uwu If he did that I'd never escape him!

"Tracer magic." He replied and I sighed. Tracer magic was even worse. Trackers just had an inclination to go your direction and wasn't too accurate, tracer gave you the equivalent of a little crumb trail. Much more efficient. It wasn't trailing magic that showed the path of the target.

"Did you have to do that?" I whinned and he scowled at me.

"It is my duty to protect you! How can I do that if I don't know where you are?! On top of it, you have a bad habit of collapsing and almost dying." I scowled back, and his hands carefully reached around me, while balancing, grabbed me and got us both down.

"Cross! No fair!" I whined, and he laughed and placed the book back on the bookshelf, and started walking. I sulked in his arms then suddenly stiffened as I sensed someone powerful and unknown heading toward us.

"Cross, something's coming!" My head turned to the unknown magic entity, and Cross started bolting across the library hurrying as fast as possible.
