Chapter 2

(Lord Phenex pov)

Hearing the ping sound alerted me that someone was coming to the door of my office. Connecting my magic to the ward, I sensed Riser standing outside, about to knock. Pressing the button under my table, I opened the door before he could. I suppressed the smile I had; it has always been my goal to open the door before the visitor knocks. Only Lyra, my wife, knows, but to everyone else, it remains a mystery, helping to maintain a mysterious aspect about me, 'How do you know I was about to knock?'

"Father"

Riser's voice brought me back from my thoughts. "Riser," I began, "I assume you wouldn't visit me if it wasn't something you couldn't handle yourself. So, what can I do for you?"

The twitch of Riser's lips and the slight flush on his face were clear cues, showing he had hit the mark. He wasn't chiding Riser for seeking help for things he couldn't handle on his own, but it did sting a bit when children only remembered their parents when they needed something. It didn't hurt him deeply, as he himself remembered doing the same in his youth, and he had experienced this with Riser's two older brothers as well. Even little Ravel was coming to him less frequently. Ah, his little bird was growing up.

Though when he saw the slight hesitation on Riser's face, he immediately leaned forward. Even though Riser was his son, he had to admit that Riser was an arrogant and confident individual. He never settled for anything less than the best. Such a disposition would be expected from someone who had never lost or faced any real difficulty in life.

Noting his son's reluctance, he prompted, "Riser, come on, I don't have all day. These reports won't read themselves."

As if making up his mind, with some determination, Riser said, "Father, I read on the devil.net forum that the fallen angel governor has a gender-changing gun. I want to ask if we can trade something for temporary or permanent use. I... I want the gun to change a guy's gender; he has a powerful sacred gear. I don't know which one, but I want him in my hare... peerage."

He resisted the urge to whistle. His son Riser was going through 'that' phase. He didn't want to accept his attraction to the same sex, so he sought to literally change a guy's gender to satisfy his urges. He remembered how big of a dilemma he was in when his attraction for his dear bishop grew. The bishop was an effeminate man with feminine features but also an average dick. He was shocked and in a quandary, but his dear Lyra caught onto his complication. On his birthday, she blindfolded him, which led to him fucking his bishop. He still remembered the tightness he felt fucking the ass in doggy style, he thought it was Lyra and wanted to remove the blindfold, only to be stopped by Lyra. Only after cumming did he take off the blindfold and saw a silly smile on his bishop's face. Shaking off the memory, he shifted in his seat, attempting to control his hard-on.

He observed Riser's hesitant expression, uncertain about his own potential response. He couldn't help but snort at his son's mention of the "sacred gear". How challenging could it be to find someone with a sacred gear, especially a stronger one? It was amusing how Riser referenced the sacred gear, likely hoping it would persuade him to support a silly endeavor. Just because he didn't want to accept he was attracted to a guy.

Well, what can I do? After all, it's a parent's job to support their children.

Though it would be tricky getting the gun out of Azazel's pocket. Well, nothing a few drops of Phoenix tear can't fix.

Finally, as if he was making the most important decision of his life, he nodded at Riser, slumping his shoulders. "Even if this deal results in a loss, I'll support you. After all, a father must always stand by his son." It's essential to remind your children of the sacrifices made for them, ensuring they remain grateful. He pushed away memories of his father teaching him, 'Son, in our long, nearly immortal lives, it's possible that even your own sons can betray you. Always be on the lookout.' He didn't want to doubt his children, but living for over 1,000 years exposes you to things that make you wary, even of your own shadow.

Seeing the relief and heartfelt happiness on Riser's face made him smile too. "Don't worry, Father. I promise I'll bring prestige to the name of Phenex."

"But if you're out of chess pieces, how will you reincarnate him... or her?"

Riser's sheepish look returned, the same one he had when he expected to be scolded. "I WILL TRADE MY PEERAGE WITH RAVEL."

As his anger bubbled, flames began to manifest around him, reflecting his inner anger. "Are you going to stunt your sister's growth for your personal desires?"

Another one of his father's rules was never to promote infighting within the family; it can tear it apart. With subtle guidance, all his children loved and respected each other, never fighting over who would inherit the family's leadership.

Regaining control, he said, "Son, your peerage is decent, but not great. But stifling Ravel's growth for your selfish desires, regardless of her love for you, might breed resentment or even hatred in the future."

Riser looked uncomfortable. I sighed again and said "I'll try to find alternative chess pieces. But before making decisions, consider their impact on our family. You may leave."

After Riser's departure, I contemplate, It seems I will need to pull a few strings and approach Zerkam for some spare evil pieces. After all, Zekram wouldn't mind if he didn't want 'King Pieces' to be exposed'

He could have denied Riser, but he felt indebted after placing him on a hit list of Satan. He already knew about Rias's disdain for his son, while in the shadows, Sirzechs worked to tarnish Riser's reputation, to force Zeoticus to break the engagement. Didn't Sirzechs know that his second son owned a significant media company and that any media manipulation would be discovered? Or perhaps he knew and didn't care. But he too was caught in a bind, wanting to protect his house with the looming threat of the Old Satan. They were getting really arrogant and approaching him to join them. Didn't they fear Sirzhecs? What was their confidence?

(Riser POV)

Walking out of the office, I resisted the urge to scowl. I nearly cringed remembering how I had acted, but that's just the way Riser behaved in front of his parents.

I almost attacked him when he released those fires. It's really weird how the MCs in the various fictions readily accept their new families and are willing to trust them wholly. Maybe I didn't have the original emotions of Riser, so it's hard for me to connect with his relationship on an emotional level. But what he did say let me truly comprehend the reality and not just rely on my memory. From my knowledge, I knew Ravel trusted her brother very much and thought he was unbeatable. But how far would she go just to satisfy my desires? Would she have agreed to hand over her Evil Pieces if I asked her to?

Never mind now; I have taken care of my first task. The next is training. From the memories of Riser, he did train, but not on the level I thought this body was capable of. I need to start training my peerage since I can't hand them over to Ravel.

Making my way through the mansion, I follow my memory and head to the library. I want to gain a new understanding of devil magic instead of relying on Riser's understanding. Hell, I didn't even need to study other types of magic; just relying on my basic family magic: Fire, Wind, and Hellfire; a fire so hot that even an untrained version could leave a mark on the Red Emperor's armor.

Greeting the librarian, I'm awed by the grand library. I can hardly see its end. All the books have been collected since the inception of the House of Phenex. Going to the catalog in the middle of the room, I start searching for books ranging from a basic understanding of fire to advanced forms, fire temperature, the concept of wind, and 'How to Increase the Temperature of Hellfire'. The books I entered in the catalog immediately appear beside me through summoning magic.

Packing up the books, I summon all my peerage members to my room through our connection.

Note: For the training arc, I don't want to waste chapters, so I will gloss over the main points of what he trained. Also, contracts will be there too. Oh, before I forget. I am not a physicist but I am researching a little bit, don't want to piss off my smart readers, but can excessive heat make nuclear fission or fusion? Can heat and wind combined create electricity like wind turbines?

And just for hypothesis, If a devil uses contracts to gather desires, could he summon something he really desires like a devil fruit? I mean when first had the idea of Riser SI, the idea would he would summon Marco's phoenix fruit of Akainu magma fruit. Now I discarded the idea because Riser could really break through his limits from some ideas I have. In the future, I might make a fancif for Bune Devil with Kaido fruit. Feel free to use this idea if you want. lol peace, see you in the next chapter.
