Chapter 75 -- I don't have one

"Hey when do you think we will get our next mission?" Zane asked David.

Currently, Zane and David were sitting on their table at the Dancing Rum tavern.

Zane had woken up early and went to Old man's house. He wanted to start training as soon as possible, after all he hadn't been taught anything except for how not to start a fight and how to disregard pain.

However to his surprise, he found the house locked and no one answered his knocking.

When putting all his concentration on listening to the inside, he couldn't hear anyone or anything. Zane summed it up to Old man being asleep and decided to wait a couple of hours before going back.

That's when he went to the tavern and found David sitting alone on their table.

"You broke?" David asked.

"No its not that, i just want to be ready that's all" Zane shrugged.

"Well for now there haven't been any requests, but here take this" David gave Zane circular flat object the size of his palm.

"This disk has an formation matrix embedded into it, I also have one identical to that one and when i inject mana in to the one I have, that one will glow for about five hours. Since the glow is due to mana, you should be able to see it" David explained.

"Formation matrix?" Zane asked, he was quite intrigued by this so called formation matrix. If his guess was correct, he might find himself doing something similar to programming once more.

"It's complicated and i also don't know much, just know that the disk will glow for five hours when i need you guys to come in" David said.

Zane was quite disappointed that he couldn't learn anything about matrix, however he made a mental note to ask around.

"Can I also use this thing the same way?" Zane asked.

"Yes, if you inject your mana into it, mine will glow. However i advise you not to because then i won't be able to summon you for the following five hours" David answered.

"Okay, thanks." Zane put the disk into his storage ring.

"Tell me Zane, what's your plan for the future?" David suddenly asked.

"Well, first I will see how powerful I become once I breakthrough, then plan from there. However I am leaning more towards staying with you guys, if that's okay" Zane said.

"Of course, you are part of us now. We can only celebrate if you decide to stay" David chuckled.

"Will you celebrate because you want me there or because you want a cheap Mage healer on your team?" Zane smiled.

"A little of both" David laughed. "Hey tell me something, was Tyrone's group incident the first time you killed?" he asked, surprising Zane due to how random the question seemed.

"Yes it was, why do you ask?" Zane answered and asked a question of his own.

"How did it feel?" David ignored Zane's question.

"No different to killing a rabbit for dinner" Zane answered truthfully. His own answer even surprised himself. He was sure that wouldn't be his answer if he was still on earth.

'I might have kept my memories, but this planet still influences my judgement, reasoning and compassion' Zane discovered.

"Good" David said nonchalantly as he took a sip of his rum. Zane still wondered why they called it rum since it was clearly beer. Surprisingly it tasted the same as some of those from earth...

"How is that good?" Zane questioned.

"All I can tell you is that we live in a cruel world Zane and you haven't see one tenth of it."

"If someone more powerful than you tells you that humans have ten heads, then that is the truth. Might makes right."

"With power you can do anything you want and at the same time you can ignore everything. Just like the saying goes 'With great power, comes little responsibility"

'That doesn't sound right' Zane thought.

"Zane I am telling you all this because if you are going to become one of us you must be willing to do anything for power. But I don't think that's gonna be a problem for you" David finished.

Zane nodded, he had been living amongst other people who aren't his parents for less than a month but he had already seen how the world works.

Power is everything and everyone will do anything to gain power, he must also be willing to do the same in order to survive. If he couldn't do that then the only other option would be to live on a farm like his parents.

"I gotta go, remember to check your storage ring every few hours" David stood up and left. Zane sat there alone for half an hour before leaving to go and check Old man.

David's teachings had motivated him even more to gain power as fast as possible.

Luckily, this time the door was unlocked and Zane found his way to Old man's room. He had wanted to go to the training basement but he forgot how to get there, he wasn't really paying attention the previous day.

"Come in" Old man said after Zane knocked on the door.

"What the hell were you doing here at the crack of dawn?" Old man asked as soon as Zane entered.

"I wanted to train... wait how did you know i was here?" Zane asked.

"I felt you" Old man replied.

Zane wasn't that surprised that Old man felt Zane, however some things didn't make sense. If he could feel or sense him, why was he surprised to hear that John had brought him along that day?.

Also exactly how does someone sense another person anyway!?.

"You sensed me while asleep?" Zane asked. He knew his other question could be answered with the legendary phrase but he didn't know if that could also work when someone is unconscious.

"I don't sleep anymore, i just meditate" Old man answered.

"Ohh" Zane nodded and sat down opposite Old man.

"So can I start my training now?" He said impatiently.

"As soon as Bella gets here" Old man said.

Zane shuddered a little on hearing that name, he still remembered the events of the previous day's initiation.

"I see she still got her charm" Old man chuckled.

"Yeah charm alright" Zane mumbled. Speaking of charm....

"Hey Old man I want to ask you something about Charlotte" Zane said.

"Huh?" Old man suspiciously raised an eyebrow.

"You know what just forget I said anything" Zane waved it off.

"Yes I will forget it because it's not my business. Bella's just arrived, oh by the way what is your elemental affinity or aptitude?" Old man asked.

"I don't have one" Zane answered with a shrug.

"WHAAAT!!" Old man shouted, spitting some of the tea in his mouth on Zane
