2 Whose Hero?

"Ugh, what happened?" I mumbled as I opened my eyes.

I saw a flat ceiling covered with paintings of human figures with white angel wings on their backs and recalled everything. One of the hooded men called out that I was a human, and then another hooded man lunged at me and struck me. Then a bunch of numbers appeared followed by a message which said that I had died.

I frowned.

What the hell?! I got summoned into a fantasy world and got killed by the same people that summoned me?!... I guess, that they don't want me, a human, to be their, the monster hero, but too bad! I got summoned into this fantasy world to be the hero and that is precisely what I am going to be! A hero!

I raised my upper body, sitting up and saw that I was wearing the same green linen pants that I was wearing before that hooded man killed me, and that I was holding the same black sword with strange patterns in my right hand. I saw a double door in front of me and an altar below my butt. But a different altar than the one that I, the elf, the oni and the lizardmen were summoned on. This one was white while that one was black.

I focused on the icon which was on the top-right corner of my view, and a window, taking up my entire view opened. Two messages, one after another flashed in front of me.

<1/1 resurrects used>

<The next time you die, you won't resurrect>

I snickered.

I can't die again!

In the centre-left side of this window, I saw my attributes. There were eight in total and they were: strength, dexterity, intellect, wisdom, vitality, endurance, charisma and spirit. I currently had four points in strength, three points in vitality, two points in dexterity and endurance, one point in intellect, wisdom, charisma and spirit. Focusing on each of those eight attributes, made a message appear, telling me what a particular attribute increased.

Strength increased physical skill damage, physical auto attack damage and physical critical strike damage. Dexterity increased physical skill damage, attack speed of auto attacks and physical critical strike chance. Intellect increased magical skill damage, magical skill critical strike damage. Knowledge increased magical skill critical strike chance and maximum mana. Vitality increased maximum health and reduced the duration and effectiveness of curses and poisons. Endurance reduced critical damage taken. Charisma increased follower damage. Spirit increased health and mana regeneration.

Since I had a sword for my weapon, the attributes that I needed to allocate my attribute points into were strength, dexterity, vitality, endurance and spirit. But that had to wait until I levelled up and got some attribute points to spend.

In the centre-right side of the window, I saw my affinities. There were ten in total and they were: physical, fire, water, ice, light, dark, lightning, earth, wind and chaos. Currently my affinities were all at zero. Focusing on each of those ten affinities, made the same message appear for all of them. It told me that having points in one or the other affinity would increase my resistance to the attacks of that affinity or increase my damage with the attacks of that affinity.

In RPG games, the element affinities were crucial in both the beginning and at the end of the game. And so I knew that if I were not to die, I had to take affinities very seriously.

To the right of the affinities, I saw the quest list. But it was empty, as I was yet to accept a single quest. Focusing on the quest list didn't do anything.

To the left of the attributes, I saw the minimap. It showed me the map of the building that I was in. Focusing on the minimap, opened the map and it showed me the location of where was the building that I was in located in. But it was no help, as it was in the fog of war. I closed the map.

Above the minimap, I saw my health and mana. I had one hundred health and thirty mana. Focusing on my health, made a message appear, telling me how much health I was regenerating every five seconds and focusing on mana, made a message appear, telling me how much mana I was regenerating every five seconds.

Out of combat, I was regenerating three health and one mana. While in combat, I was regenerating one point five health and point five mana.

Below the attributes, I saw my level, and below the affinities, I saw my experience bar. I was currently at level zero, and had zero experience points out of a hundred. Focusing on my level or the experience bar didn't do anything.

Above the attributes and affinities, I saw five buttons: the inventory button, the follower button, the profession button, the skills button and the weapon button. Out of them all, the follower button and the profession button were greyed out and so I tried focusing on them first, but nothing happened.

I guess when I get a follower or learn a profession, then these two buttons will become available.

I focused on the inventory button next, and the inventory window opened. It was empty and so I closed it.

I focused on the skills button after that, and the skills window opened. I saw a long list of skills, but they were all greyed out and there was a message next to each of the greyed out skills. The message next to the first greyed out skill said that weapon must reach level one to unlock this skill, the message next to the second greyed out skill said that the weapon must reach level five to unlock this skill, and so on. I closed the skills window.

I focused on the weapon button last and the weapon window opened. In it, I saw a single icon that was shaped like a sword. Focusing on that icon, made a message appear. It said that the sword which was apparently called – Chaos was now at level zero and would increase in level if I killed.

I closed the weapon window and the menu, stood up, walked down the altar and walked out of the building through the double door.

I saw that I was inside a human town.

I scratched my head.

"I should go to the inn and find out about the world that I am in."

And so I walked around the town until I found the inn and went inside.
