1 1. A New World

A robot voice rings inside Perseus's head, waking him up from his unconsciousness. He opens his eyes and looks around. He finds himself floating in a space that seems to be no boundless; everything is white except for the blue screen shining in front of him.

" Am I in the afterworld? " he murmurs. The last thing he remembers before the computer exploded is the warmth of his girlfriend who is sitting beside him.

" Where is she? Is she here with me?"

He looks around again but finds no trace of his girlfriend. He hopes that she didn't die due to the explosion, she was a kind girl and the only person he treasures since she has been staying with him even before he becomes a game developer and earns more money. The cold voice suddenly raises again and disrupts his thoughts.

Curiously, Perseus looks at the screen which has been in front of his eyes from the beginning. Out of his surprise, it is exactly the screen before starting the game that he built, Rise Of Civilization. Although he is overwhelmed by what is happening, Perseus has read enough web novels to understand his situation a little bit. For some unknown reasons, he may have a chance to start a new life in a new world that have features similar to

"If I get this chance, maybe Christina will get this too. So I should dive in and try to find her later."

After calming himself, Perseus closes and opens his eyes. Looking at the screen, he has wiped out all the tiredness and confusion before and replaced them with a serious atmosphere. In Rise Of Civilization, the race you choose is very important since it will define your play style. For instance, the elf is the race with strong magic, good archery skill, and a long lifespan but low fertility; or orc with fierce fighting skills and high fertility but shorter lifespan and harder to make civilized development.

Without a second thought, Perseus chooses the human race. Although being a human has no advantages, it has no disadvantages, either. Thus, choosing humans is a well-rounded path and as an experienced player, Perseus strongly believes he will be able to thrive choosing this race.

After the robot voice stops, Perseus feels darkness covering his eyes, and his consciousness is wiped out. Then, his body disappears, leaving the white space empty… Until a woman figure appear…

"CHIEF! CHIEF!"

A loud voice touches Perseus's ears and he feels his body being shaken by an unknown force. Perseus opens his eyes; the sunlight makes him uncomfortable for a few seconds before his eyes can adapt. Around him, he notices three people: a high man wearing leather armor with a bow on his shoulders, a woman wearing a blue cloak and holding a strange staff on a hand, and an old man who wears casual ancient clothes. All of them have worry look on their face, then one of them speaks:

"Finally, you're awake, my chief"

" Yeah, thanks to the gods for keeping you alive, you suddenly fall unconscious, leaving we do not know what to do."

Perseus feels his headache for a moment when his brain is poured in information. Perseus Fortuna, 18 years old, is the chief of the Fortunian Tribe; the tribe's sigil is a white two-headed eagle on a blue theme. The man wearing armor is Otto, the strongest warrior of the tribe, the woman is Freya, a witch, and Clovis, the old man, who is believed to be the oldest and wisest man among the tribesmen.

Persues stands up, he realizes his body has become tougher than in the previous world. He is wearing distinguished leather clothes with a wolf hide wrapping him like a belt. He answers the three other:

" Don't worry, my loyal people. I have just received a message from the Gods"

The joy appears on other people's faces: " And what is that, my chief? Do they give guidance for us to escape from our current situation? "

Not answering their questions, Perseus walks out of the tent, seeing about 300 people are resting. Fortunian tribe is a tribe in the northern region of the Arcadia Peninsula. They live based on fruits gathering, sheep and horse breeding as well as hunting. However, recently the animal number living in the area has decreased. Some tribesmen have felt the cold wind started blowing which means only one thing, winter is coming. And many of them will die due to starvation if they do not have a decent amount of food before winter comes.

"The Gods have ordered us to settle on a chosen land" Perseus speaks to his followers. " They claim that our pitiful nomad life must end and a new era will come"

Three people are surprised by Perseus's words. Settling is something new to them, they can not adapt to it immediately even if their chieftain, who is believed to be the messenger of the Gods, is who claims it.

" How will we live if we settle down, my chief? Not like the people in the south, we northerners do not know how to cultivate crops and build strong wooden houses." Clovis is the first one to raise an argument

Perseus smiles and answers: " The Gods have taught me the methods to cultivate crops and build homes. Don't be worry, Clovis. Now, Otto and Freya, I need your help."

Otto and Freya kneel: " We're ready to do anything you order, my chief."

"Good, Freya, I need you to send all of your eagles to find a place which is suitable for building a settlement. Vast pastures closed to large sources of water will work. And Otto, gather 20 armed warriors and horses. After the eagles have found a suitable place, you and your men will ride there and eliminate any threat that can cause trouble to our journey. Do you understand your missions?"

"AYE" They both reply before leaving.

Freya is a witch that can control eagles raised by her. Some other women in the tribe can do the same but she is the most skillful. Perseus knows the most important factor for the tribe to grow is civilization. After building a settlement, he can use 100 CP to implant the basic knowledge of farming into the tribesmen's heads. The important part is the location to settle; an ideal one will make it easier to develop while the bed one will do the reverse.

" Old Clovis, please go and tell our tribesmen we will be leaving soon and inform them about my decision of settling. I can trust no one aside from you in this matter "

Perseus can see Clovis showing signs of respect and gratitude. The old man simply bow and say " I will not make you disappointed, my chieftain. " before leaving.

" Haizz " Perseus looks at the old man leaving with complicated thoughts. He is still not used to what's happening. After settling, the priority will be developing a self-sustainable community and enacting trade with any other settlements nearby. Going to wars is an option but at the early stage of development, Perseus often ignores this since, with the current population of his tribe, he can't risk losing anyone.

After 3 hours, Freya reports that she has found a suitable place. The horde, led by Perseus starts their first steps to civilization.
