Waking Up

A lonely asteroid floats in space of the universe. Its size is only a little over 1,000 km. But this asteroid is not just a simple rock.

'Where? Didn't I die?' A man's soul questions from inside the asteroid.

'Why can't I feel my hands? Or legs? Wait... I... what is this?!' his voice continues as he awakens.

He noticed that he was no longer the simple human that he had been moments before he lost consciousness from the hospital bed. Now he could sense without nerves, and 'see' without eyes in a kind of soul sense all across his new rocky body. He realized that he was now this... rock, no he was an asteroid. He could gather that from sensing the distant starlight around him and the lack of gravity.

'Okay.. well I'm better qualified to call myself the Rock in the future, sorry Dwane.' The man's soul joked to himself.

It seemed that his solitude wouldn't last much longer as a soft trumpet appeared in his soul, like a heralding of a new birth of a child or a surprise party Kazu.

[Talent Awakening of Human-Type Soul]

The trumpet-type sound echoed twice after the announcement of his awakened talent. He didn't have much confusion about this process as the necessary information informed him about what he needed to know. It would seem that he had arrived in a different universe, where strong souls would awaken a Unique Talent at their birth. But it seemed that he had somehow confused the universe with his human soul and asteroid body because he was now a sentient asteroid with a Unique Talent.

He quickly realized that his [Attributer] talent was very strong, precisely because he was an asteroid. It allowed him to increase anything about his body, soul, or mind that he considered an attribute by 1. This would recharge over a set of 10,000 years of sleep. Perhaps this talent was not supposed to be used to increase the basic attributes of the human body every few years, like intelligence, wisdom, strength, etc. But since he was an asteroid... it became very vague what exactly an attribute of himself was. Not only that but the increase of a '1' attribute was based on his current size, density, speed, etc. He was an asteroid with the potential to become a planet! A single increment of '1' of himself would be extremely abnormal.

'How interesting. This universe is very mysterious compared to my old life. Maybe this universe has the existence of mana and magic like the fantasy novels I used to read.' The man's thoughts turned excitedly.

'Well, I am an asteroid now and not even a big one, should I focus on using my [Attributer] talent to increase my size? Or gravity to attract other asteroids? Or what can I abuse the most with my talent?'

As far as increasing his body's size from an asteroid to a planet, seemed like a good direction for him, because his attributes and talent were affected by his mass and size. Perhaps even his composition or the lives formed himself would also be considered a valid target for his talent. There was much to explore in the future, but for now, he needed to strategize how he could increase his size to a planet in a short time. He considered increasing his density attribute, mass, or size, but those would only double his current size or mass and wouldn't be very effective in guaranteeing further growth of size.

'Could I increase my luck attribute by 1 size? Would that be a lot of luck for my size? Maybe it would be better to wait until I am bigger to increase my luck attribute then because as far as I know, each unique attribute can only be increased once.'

He spent a long time in thought and decades passed like this, with him floating in the vastness of space without any other encounters with other celestial bodies. But that was when he realized, why couldn't he just increase his odds of encountering beneficial circumstances? Isn't that slightly different than luck? That would fall under the attribute of chance which was a subset of luck, can I then increase luck later?

He focused his mind and felt a burst of heat from inside his soul. It flowed as a warm current into a virtual attribute panel that he could see in front of his eyes. The current stopped and he could see his abnormal attributes now in front of him.

He read the strange attribute panel that only listed his size and the new attribute that he had wanted to increase with his [Attributer] talent. He guessed that the (X) symbol before each attribute mean he could no longer increase it with his [Attributer] talent in the future. He didn't know if the strange attribute he created would work better in his favor, but it was much better than simply increasing his size. Instead, he focused on an attribute that increased all Odds of something rare happening by 1,000,000 points, which is his current size at this time. He hoped that all odds that something might happen would be increased during his time here in space, plus if he ever tried to do something risky it wouldn't be a loss to have this attribute.

Suddenly, he felt a wave of tiredness hit him like a truck, stunning his thoughts and turning his mind sluggish. It felt like tiredness coming from the depths of his very soul. He felt like he could barely keep himself conscious.

'Well, I hope something interesting happens when I sleep... I hope I can at least encounter a few comets with water and nutrients to form life... I...zzz'

He drifted off into a kind of sleep while his soul recovered for a time. His asteroid drifts off further and further into space, ready to encounter the unknown and the strangeness of the universe.
