The end of one tale and the start of a new journey, A world with magic, and the death of a family. Welcome to my tale. Side notes. Multiple main characters will develop. Some may die. Some might have access to a system. I’m only like one ark into planning atm. Feed back requested and appreciated !
This was definitely on of those.
I drop the string of animals including the smaller spider to the ground and slowly step back, my had moving in small jerky motions to the handle of the skinning knife. This would be a great time to have a spear. or bow. or literally anything that wouldn't require me to get close to this eight legged freak of nature.
It steps off Eons back, moving towards me as I try to gain some ground. It's eight black eyes seem to reflect what little light is left, and its body moves with the shadows on the forest floor. Distracting my vision.
I know where to hit a dear, or rabbit to kill it.. Eon never mention giant spiders..
Shit.
Grabbing the handle of the knife tightly I jerk it out of the sheath and rush forward. The lights fading, and I'd bet my grace that this thing sees better at night than I do. My only chance is to kill it before the light fails me completely.
It makes a strange chirping noise and scuttle faster than I wouldve though possible for something with such an unbalanced body, moving straight at me. Holding back a shudder I scream in rage... yeah rage. Not terror. Surely. And throw myself over the top of it, trying to stab down with both hands wrapped around the knife hilt.
It cant bite me if I get behind it! I feel the moment of impact through my arms as the tip of the knife.... scrapes off some kind of hard shell.
Shit.
I slam into the ground hard, almost losing the knife, and then almost stabbing myself as I jerk my arms in close and roll onto my back as I land. I try to refocus, I know its going to be coming for me. I hear it, a rustling clicking noise. I scream and lash out from the ground with the knife, I hear a high pitched chittering shriek, and feel the knife bite into something, then almost have it torn out of my hand as whatever I hit jerks away.
I scramble to my feet slamming my back against a tree, trying to find where it went. There's a thick slime on the knife but I don't have time to wipe it or look at it closely. I can't see it!
My vision darting back and forth the gloom of the forest seems oppressively dark now where before it was peaceful. It's still alive. I think.
I hear it before I see it and the noise is a rush of scrabbling bark that falls on my head as I throw myself forward from the tree lashing out blindly behind me as I stumble forward. My knees hit the ground and in a moment of prayer so fervent I feel line a priest I look up. My ears ringing slightly. I lost the knife in this last tumble, but I see it now. sticking out side of the spiders...face? I hit the right side of its head and my knife is lodged just behind the eyes, buried almost to the hilt.
Panting I stagger to my feet. It's not moving. and if it was I don't have any more weapons. Eon said I wasn't ready to carry any yet. I stumble slowly towards the spider that's collapsed onto the ground at the base of the tree. Kicking at the bulbous body I feel that shell my knife bounced off of before. Damn. I grab the knife trying to yank it out, and having to wiggle it and pry it from the body. This, this isn't part of what I imagined when I started learning...
Holding the knife tightly I look around and see Eon laid out not far from me, in a hurry I stumble towards him. Rolling him onto his back I see blood trickling from his shoulder.
Shit.
I think there's something... The taran root! Scrabbling to open the top most pouch on my harness, I pull out a small folded cloth and open it, letting a white powder fall directly onto the bleeding wound, then placing the cloth over the wound after its unfolded and yanking a bandage out of another pouch. Not how I though I would be applying the first aid Eon showed me.
Sitting down for a moment I breath deeply.
What would Eon tell me to do now?
The fort. Sir Issac needs to know there's demis in the woods! I need to get Eon to the fort.
I scabble half blind in the growing dark to find my hunters line, pulling it over my should and then walking to Eon and taking the long knife off his harness loop and putting on my waist. Sorry Eon, even if not ready, I need it now. Stomping over to the large spider I pause. how am I gonna carry this and Eon? Standing there for a moment I grab the skinning knife I used moments ago and cut out around the things head, and take off a leg for good measure, which was harder than I though to work the knife through the shell. It bleeds purple... and smells worse than 4 day old rats.
Stringing up the newest add-ons to my hunter line, I grab eons harness by the shoulder and waist, grunting with effort and heaving him over my shoulder as I stand. He..Isn't as heavy as I thought.. With that thankful thought in mid I check the suns position as the light dims further, and start off back towards safety and the fort. My pace faster than even I thought was smart given my fear of encountering anything else that might lay in wait.
