Café Visit

Rin

Jay texting me out of the blue was something I didn't expect. I guess he was just bored. Plus, He called me cute! Me? CUTE!? Well, I think so objectively; he was calling Rin cute. I mean, it is his body that is cute, not mine. We have similar features, but we don't look the same. Though sometimes, when I look in the mirror, I see my face in his. I don't know if that is because I can't tell the difference at first glance or not. Either way, I'm not cute. Also, why would he joke about me being in love with him?? I didn't know what to say to that. I won't deny that I do feel a sort of fondness towards him, but love? Ha! No way. I have never been in love, and I don't plan on it now. Besides, I will be gone when Rin takes his body back, so it's pointless to get attached to anything in this world.

After Parker and I got home, Parker went right to bed. Today's training must have taken a lot out of him. I decided to stay up and go through the files I got from city hall. Knowing that Rin's mom was a paralegal, I knew I would find things about her past cases and stuff about her licenses. I already looked into Weber Law Firm as well, considering Rin's and Parker's moms worked there. They are a pretty impressive Law Firm that focuses on Civil Rights Law. They won a few cases that helped change some fundamental laws in Dalmane. Rin's mom has more experience in Immigration law, however. It seems like she helped all kinds of people gain citizenship in Dalmane, which makes Rin's circumstances even more baffling. I also found Rin's parents' marriage certificate. Rin's parents weren't married until after Rin was born. One month later, to be exact. Rin's father was a major in the Royal Army, and a lot of information about him is redacted. All that I have here on him are his enlistment dates, essential records like rank promotions, medical files, and a file that says he was once suspended for disobeying orders from the general he was working for. That also happened one month after Rin was born. It seems like a lot happened in the month after Rin was born.

The rest of what I have was about their murder case. Obviously, there wasn't a lot available on that either, considering it is a cold case. Just a lot of paperwork from Rin's uncle and aunt trying to petition to get the case to remain open. It also happened on foreign soil, so that made it even harder for them. I should have also asked about Parker's parents as well. However, from what I have found so far, I don't think going through official means will have good results. I need to find an information broker. I used to have one on speed dial when I was working as an assassin. He was a freak of nature, but his information was reliable. I don't know anything or anyone who might be involved in the underground networks. I don't even know where to start. Hmm, now that I think about it, maybe I can ask that shady Dean guy. At the very least, I can follow him and try to scope out criminal hangouts. This is my playground. Even in another world, I can make things work.

When I woke up this morning, I found a note from Parker saying he would be out dealing with the MMA officials all day. He has a bunch of matches coming up, so I guess he will be pretty busy. I plan on trying to find an information broker and gather as much information as I can while Parker is distracted. I know for a fact that Parker will be against me putting myself in danger, but I can't stop here. I have to find out anything I can. Josie told me about a bar that Dean goes to. He told me to keep me from going there, but instead, I was going to stalk him. That dude is shady as fuck, so he has to have some criminal ties. I mean, he so confidently blackmailed Rin; ordinary people don't do that.

Josie told me the bar wasn't far from the café Rin worked at. I decided to stake it out before going there later tonight. Before that, however, I want to stop in the café and see if I can get any more information now that Prince Jay isn't with me.

"Welcome, OH! Hi! Hey, Jess, it's Rin." Helen shouts.

"Dude, you missed it. Greg was arrested! We still don't have any idea what's going on, but it sure was fun watching him cry." Mike chuckles.

They are as lively as ever. I can imagine what it's like to work with them.

"I actually already knew he was arrested. He was arrested for drug trafficking." I say.

I don't actually know if I should be telling people about this. Eh, oh well. It can't be that big of a deal.

"WHAT!?!" Jess says as she walks out from behind the counter.

She handed me a latte and guided me to the seat near the window.

"Yeah, the prince was attacked, and they followed a trail of black faction members, and he was one of them," I say.

Helen sits next to me, leaving Mike behind the counter by himself.

"That's crazy. I guess it's a good thing none of us got too close to him. So, enough about Greg. How have you been? Did you get your memories back?" Jess asks while sipping on her coffee.

"No, sadly, I didn't. I'm still trying to find anyone who can help me gain my memories back. That's actually why I stopped in. I was hoping you guys might know anyone who I was close to or who I was friendly with." I say.

"Honestly, no. I mean, your nickname is loner for a reason. There were a couple of regulars you were friendly with, but no one that stood out." Jess says.

Helen clears her throat, glancing over at Jess.

"What? What aren't you saying?" I say while glaring at Helen.

She better not hold anything back from me.

"Well, there was a customer who was overly friendly with you. He, um, you gave him your number, and he would come in every day." Helen said, avoiding Jess's eyes.

"WHAT? Did he give him his number? Why?" Jess snapped.

"Rin had a crush on him. He wrote his number on his cup the first time they met. After that, the guy came in every day. After that, you texted him often and even told me you were thinking of asking him on a date. That was actually a couple of days before your accident. I assume you forgot and you lost your phone. He even came in looking for you yesterday, but when I told him you quit, he left right away." Helen says way too quickly.

Why didn't she say anything to me the last time I was here? Gah, I need to find that guy.

"Do you know anything about him that will help me get in contact with him? Name? Phone number? Place of work? Anything?" I ask.

Helen shakes her head.

"All I can do is tell you he likes black coffee and dresses in a suit." Fuck, How will I be able to find this guy?

He must work nearby to be able to come to the café all the time.

"Well, If he comes back, please give him my number and explain why I didn't contact him. I really need to meet him. He could be a huge help." I say while writing my new number on a napkin.

"Sure, of course," Helen says as she tucks the napkin away.

"Well, I need to get going. Thank you for the help. I will stop by soon." Everyone says goodbye as I walk out the door.

Rin was in the process of dating someone. That's a huge lead. I need to find this guy soon. I wish I had more information about him. This is a pain. "Rin?" A man says as I pass by him on the street. I turn and face him. Uh-oh. I don't know this person. Fuck, I don't know their relationship. This could be dangerous.
