The First Mark in History

Amidst the chattering of many students, a teenager wearing a tidy uniform and a baseball cap strode along the school hallway. Some students were grouping up and walked alongside each other.

Some girls gave meaningful glances to him, however, he just ignored them and continued to walk towards his room.

This boy around the age of 17 years old was Jayce Sieve Walker. With fair skin and wavy hair, he was quite dashing with his branded cap. Underneath the tidy uniform were lean muscles that were evident from constant training in Muay Thai. Adding all that up along with his height almost reaching 6 feet, Jayce was quite the head-turner.

Upon reaching his room and taking a place in his seat, he placed his bag on the floor and stretched his arms. Almost all seats were already occupied. The room was noisy with the constant chatting of his classmates. Jayce could hear some of them, some were gossips and others were just nonsense for him.

'Another ordinary and boring day I guess.', Jayce thought to himself.

His seat was located near the window which gave him a good view of the school's open field.

The atmosphere inside the university was quite lively because of the numerous news spreading over the globe stating that people have gained powers, just like mutants from a certain movie.

'It's not like its a mystery anymore. This kind of news shows up always in the headlines.'

There was some footage shown in news reports that prove human beings with abilities exist. Once there was a live report of a boy around the age of eleven or twelve, teleporting around the downtown area of the city. For some reason he teleported in a space where there was no foothold, thus falling from the air and dying.

Splat. Just like that.

There was also one where another boy had the ability of magnetism. He was showing off in the video, pulling the spoon and forks towards him however he wasn't able to control in time his ability. Two knives flew from the rack towards his chest, directly in the heart.

It was tragic but that really happened. They died without enjoying abilities for more years.

Jayce brushed off the topic and let his mind wander.

Another student approached him. He was around 6 feet and 5 inches with spiky blonde hair. He also has a lean body which was one of the trademarks being the university's basketball team captain. Having a domineering vibe and a little bit deep voice, this was one of Jayce's best friend, Arthur Turner.

"We were supposed to hang out yesterday on the court along with King and Trevor, where were you?"

King and Trevor were the other two best friends of Jayce and adding Arthur to that, it would complete Jayce's best buddies.

Yawning, Jayce replied, "I wasn't feeling good yesterday. Sorry about that."

"Oh ho, maybe you were out with some chick huh? Ditching us for some girls."

Jayce extended his hand and shoo-ed Arthur away.

"I'm not into that anymore. I was just not feeling well, that's it."

Arthur just shrugged it off and started to walk away.

"Well, don't forget to watch the game later. If you don't show up, we'll drag you towards the court."

After completing what Arthur said, he left and went back to his room. It was just a few rooms away so no worries. Arthur was an Engineering Major while Arthur was a Business Major. The other two of his friends also had different Major but nonetheless, that did not stop their friendship from blooming.

The bell rang and the students now occupied their seats while the professor for the first subject entered the room.

The lessons were now taking place. After an hour, it was supposed to be another subject but out of nowhere, a dark ball of energy appeared in the open field.

Jayce, sitting in a relaxed position on his chair, stood up immediately. His eyes widened at the scene. It looked like a black hole that was summoned by some dark magician.

"Mr. Walker, sit down!"

Obviously, Jayce didn't hear his professor calling his name. The other classmates of his also noticed the commotion on the field. Some of his classmates ran downstairs towards the field while some just rushed to the windows to film the situation.

Upon observation, the dark ball of energy acted like a vacuum that pulled wind towards it. Its size was large like a regular automobile but increasing slowly.

Jayce had many thoughts running in his mind.

'What the f*ck is going on..'

The security guards of the university were on the scene and advised all students to stay away. Currently, the dark ball of energy stopped growing and it was now as wide and tall around 5 meters. The pulling force has strengthened the grass on the field were uprooted.

The loudspeakers on the university were turned on.

"All students, please evacuate from the area and head towards the exit."

"All students, please evacuate from the area and head towards the exit."

"All students, please evacuate from the area and head towards the exit."

Our professor started to instruct them to group up and evacuate from the university.

At the end of the warning, a shockwave was sent out from the open field. The security guards surrounding it was pushed back by around ten steps and fell to the ground. The windows were shattered due to the immense force of the shockwave. Students that were near the windows were also affected. However, Jayce remained standing. The shards of the glass that was near Jayce was destroyed by sparks of lightning that were unseen by the naked eye.

And the worst part of all, fifteen creatures came out from the energy ball. By the conclusion, it was some sort of a portal. These creatures were quite tall, around 4 to 5 feet and their skin was green. Their characteristics were similar to goblins in the stories. They held short swords, bucklers, spears, and axes.

The time seemed to stop. The evacuating students paused their steps to look at what happened. However, this was a big mistake.

By the time these creatures all had firm landing on the open field, they growled and ran towards the security guards that were around ten people. Not knowing what to do, the captain of the guards pointed his pistol the creatures and shouted,

"Stop at once or we will shoot!"

The other security guards also drew their pistols. Others had shaken hands, fear visible on their face. A remaining of few meters was left between them and the creatures.

"I SAID STOP OR WE WILL OPEN FIRE!"

The goblins responded by ferocious growls and they seemed to speed up more.

"OPEN FIRE!!!!"

The security guards fired at the goblins, hitting some in the torso or in the shoulder while others were wildly missing. Some bullets were deflected by the goblin's buckler.

The captain of the guards was the first one that was run by the goblin that spearheaded the charge. He was stabbed in the chest by the short sword and was bashed in the with a buckler.

Another set of goblins came out from the portal and it numbered to twenty goblins.

And that is when the panic began.

Students and teaching personnel were shouting, wanting to leave the university. Jayce stood on the window, hesitating on what to do.

The first group of goblins chased towards the fleeing guards. They massacred and decimated the nine guards while the last one, who was standing almost on the edge of the field, managed to run away.

The goblins shrieked and proceeded to charge towards the building. The distance was quite near so they arrived quickly. Jayce's room was located on the third floor but he can hear the scream of his schoolmates being killed.

'F*ck! I have to save them! What's the use of my abilities if I just let them die helplessly!'

While the goblins were entering the building, Jayce was already running towards the stairs. Upon reaching the ground floor, he saw one goblin wielding a spear skewering a female schoolmate of his in the stomach. This female student tried to put a distance away from the monster but it was hopeless. She was pinned to the ground and the goblin bit on her neck, ripping off the flesh.

Jayce almost vomited on the spot. It was his first time witnessing this kind of scene ever in his life. He was not a fan of gore movies and never would he be.

He held his stomach up and adrenaline pumped up his veins. No human being deserved to be made into a happy meal by these monsters!

Jayce ran forward towards the spear-wielding goblin. He had quite a distance between him and the goblin of around twenty meters but he dashed it for only two seconds. Lightning was running on his legs and arms.

The goblin only noticed him when he was just only a meter away. It tried to push the spear out of the body but it was too late. Jayce punched the goblin's head with his fist filled with lightning up to his shoulder. A booming sound was produced, like lightning hitting the ground.

The goblin's head separated from its body and was flung away. The goblin's body lifelessly fell down backward with green blood spurting out like a fountain.

'The f*ck!!? I thought it would just be pushed back or something, I didn't expect it to be beheaded by a punch!!'

He can feel his stamina drained by one eighth with that charge.

Jayce's attention was stolen by another goblin's shriek. There were three goblins that were away from him. Two of them held a short sword and buckler while the farthest one held an ax.

The three goblins charged towards Jayce. He kept his composure and focused on the situation. If you look at him outside, he seems to be cool and collected but inside he was screaming f*ck a million times.
