"Big Bro Huan, come out! It's time for the awakening ceremony"

The door was flung open as a muscular teenage boy, stepped out from the mouth of a gigantic lizard. Its eyes were lifeless and monochrome with its scales smooth to the touch yet durable.

This was naturally the rank 2 Lizard House gu, a symbol of power and royalty among the nomadic tribesmen of the Northern Plains.

Wei Huan looked both jittery and excited, this was the most important day of his life after all. He quickly turned towards the direction of the crowd's steps and began running.

"This is the day where I finally become a gu master."

"A world where one can breath fire, blow apart mountains with their own strength and overpower armies. Who could have known that I would be transported from a world like Earth to a beautiful place like this?"

As he ran towards a small hill where a large number of Gu master's and ordinary mortals as well as his parents were gathered, he heard tiny murmurs in the distance:

"Look at the speed Wei Huan is running, he might be blessed by the gods."

"Yeah, if he doesn't get at least a B grade talent, I might hang myself thinking about my own talent"

Their words praising him slowly assured him of his own talent, leaving him unphased. He had heard this exact words many times before.

"But….. what if I don't have cultivation talent? What then?"

"My parents are both powerful gu masters. Naturally, I would have at least a bit of talent right?"

He quickly shook his head and dismissed his negative thoughts, his running speed slightly slowing down in the process, allowing him to more easily weave in between and around people.

Like this, he continued running until he reached a small hill with a gigantic opening which appeared to be a cavern near it.

He walked past the crowd, pushing anyone who got in his way. He slowly came to stop once he reached a group of boys his age.

"Now that everyone has arrived on time and in proper fashion, we can finally begin the awakening ceremony" The elder said, narrowing his eyes at Wei Huan and emphasizing the word "finally".

Suddenly, a not-so-quiet whisper could be heard behind him:

"Good luck, Little Huan"

A large number of people turned their heads towards this voice while Wei Huan remained as still as a statue, completely ignoring the message.

This woman was naturally his birth mother, a woman with green eyes and black hair, wearing a green and white robe standing next to his father, a taller man with black hair and blue eyes, wearing a simple black robe.

His mother slowly frowned and looked downwards, whether in sadness that her son was ignoring her or embarrassment that people were looking at her, it was unclear.

Everyone shifted their gaze from Wei Huan's birth mother to Wei Huan and the rest of the crowd. The elder soon continued:

"Now, that any and all disruptions have been resolved. We will enter the Mystical Cave, and commence the awakening."

The elder reason the elder called it "The Mystical Cave" was not due to the fact that it was a secluded domain of heaven and earth, in fact it wasn't even a unique or special location. There was a far deeper reason.

The reason he called it "Mystical" was to make the awakening ceremony and gu masters themselves more mysterious and magical in the eyes of the mortal servants and clansmen as well as the children who would soon become gu masters.

This would make them feel more respect towards the process of awakening as well as gu masters, indirectly, making them even more subservient to their clan's gu masters.

Wei Huan smiled, trying to suppress his nervousness. The young boys and girls slowly walked towards the cavern within the small hill. Once they had reach a somewhat deep portion of the cavern, the elder spoke:

"Be careful and watch your steps, you might trip"

Wei Huan stayed close to the cavern walls, using them to support himself. After all, tripping in such a situation would be extremely embarrassing to any teenager.

He kept using the walls to support himself, looking downwards and walking slowly and carefully. He continued walking until he saw a small sky blue glint in the distance.

He soon looked forward to see a green and lush cavern, seemingly untouched by humanity. It told stories of heroes and villains from times long passed, an ancient structure it was. The sounds of a serene waterfall filled the ears of all who listened. The water glowing a beautiful blue, almost like the sky on a summer afternoon.

Small specks of yellow floated in the air, akin to fireflies skittering about in a forest late at night. Looking at this beautiful scene, Wei Huan could only think:

"This really is…. otherworldly"

Wei Huan soon looked around at the faces of the other boys, expressions of wonder, curiosity and excitement painted on their young faces. He then looked at the elder, who seemed completely unmoved by the scene.

"You, young gu masters, the hope of our tribe, will now walk within the spirit spring's water and allow fate to decide your future"

"Form a straight line and walk, in that order."

"Those of you who have talent, stand in the right corner of the entrance. For those of you without talent….." The elder slowly sneered

"You can leave the spring and become a servant."

The young boy's chatter echoed in the walls of the cavern. They quickly scurried around, forming a long and straight line. Wei Huan stood at the back of the line, awaiting fate's judgment.

A young boy in the front of the line walked towards the spirit spring, slowly descending into the water. He took huge strides, almost running. He soon came to a complete standstill after some time.

"Hei Gang, 26 steps, C Grade Talent" The elder said,

The boy, Hei Gang, punched the air and celebrated, thinking about his future as a gu master.

Another boy walked towards the spirit spring, walking slowly and carefully. After some time, he also came to a standstill.

"Hei Luo, 6 steps, No talent."

The boy's head hung low, inciting pity from Wei Huan.

The ceremony continued onwards, all of the boys had been tested. It was Wei Huan's turn.

Wei Huan slowly walked into the water, despite feeling cold, the area near his stomach felt strangely warm.

He walked quickly,

1 step.

2 steps.

3 steps.

….

8 steps

… 10 steps,

15 steps..

22 steps..

He could only walk 22 steps. His talent compared to all other who had gu cultivation talent….. was the worst.
