Revenge of the Resilient Girl for the 70s

As the sound of thunder heralded the beginning of spring, Summer experienced an unexpected revelation: she was a devoted supporting character in a male protagonist-focused retro novel. Throughout her life, she had made countless sacrifices for the male lead. When he needed love, she handed over her life-changing opportunities to the female lead he adored. When he needed a stable family, she provided her assets and married him. When he needed a career boost, she sold her family’s courtyard house and small restaurant, investing all her wealth into his startup. Even when his career flourished, she stayed home, taking care of his parents and raising the illegitimate child the female lead sent over. Summer: "??? This is beyond absurd. Whoever wants to be this pitiful supporting character can be, but it won’t be me!" Why should she waste her wealth and talents on someone else’s dreams?

Chapter 44

Logan glanced up briefly at Summer before continuing to tinker with the pendulum clock. "Why are you staring at me?"

Summer didn't shy away, maintaining her gaze. "You're pretty talented, you know. You seem to know how to do everything."

Logan's attention was mostly on the clock as he replied in a detached tone, "I had to learn a bit of everything from a young age. It makes life easier."

Summer was taken aback, not expecting him to share something so personal.

She watched him for a moment before asking, "Didn't your dad take care of you?"

"My dad..." Logan started, then caught himself. Realizing he was sharing more than he intended, he paused and his tone turned cold. "Why are you still here if you have nothing to do?"

Summer wasn't surprised by his abrupt change. She continued to watch him and replied, "I don't want to go back to the volunteer camp. I've already offended everyone there. Watching them have fun while I'm all alone feels pretty awful."

Logan continued working on the clock. "If it makes you feel bad, why did you offend them?"

Summer rested her chin on her desk and continued, "If I didn't offend them, I'd have to team up with them. If I teamed up with them, I'd end up cooking for eleven people and managing all the side projects. I'd become their servant, and I don't want that."

Logan glanced at her but didn't respond. He seemed uninterested in talking about the others behind their backs. He preferred to taunt Henry directly and watch him get riled up.

Summer thought for a moment, then changed the topic. "Don't you ever feel lonely being by yourself all the time?"

Logan's response was immediate, "No."

Although Logan didn't seem keen on chatting, he still answered.

Summer, undeterred, continued, "Have you ever thought about making a real friend? Or finding someone to share your feelings with?"

Logan's reply was just as swift, "No need."

Summer couldn't help but think he was heartless. She pursed her lips, ready to drop the subject.

Just as she was about to stop, Logan looked at her and said, "A man with no woman in his heart draws his sword with divine skill."

Summer was momentarily speechless. He remembered her words and even adapted them!

Logan finished his work on the clock and wound it up. The hands hesitated for a moment before moving smoothly to the next mark.

Summer straightened up, her face lighting up with surprise and delight. "You actually fixed it!"

Logan, however, remained indifferent. As he gathered his tools, he said, "Go to Secretary Anthony and get his watch to set the time."

Without a word, Summer jumped up and ran out, her clear voice trailing behind, "I'll go get Secretary Anthony's watch!"

Logan's gaze followed her, but she was already out the school gate.

"..."

She ran faster than a rabbit.

Summer went to borrow the watch from Secretary Anthony.

Logan returned the tools to the village office and then returned to the school to prepare for his classes, reviewing the language and political thought materials.

In about ten minutes, Summer was back, running into the office with the watch in hand. Breathlessly, she handed it to Logan, "Hurry up, set the time so I can return it."

Logan took the watch and set the clock's hands to match. After winding it up tightly, the task was complete.

Seeing that the clock was set, Summer extended her hand, "Give me the watch. I'll return it."

Logan didn't hand it over immediately. Instead, he placed the clock against the wall securely and picked up his bag and the clock oil. "Let's go together."

"Together? Great!"

Summer eagerly grabbed her bag, slung it over her shoulder, and left the school with Logan.
