Chapter 5

It's been a few months since Jabel started training me to become Demon Lord and a lot has changed since then. Right now I was fighting an 8th level magician demon beast, but to the current me it wasn't too much work. It was a snow-white fox that would constantly turn into mist.

Right now the fox had done just that and I was looking for it. It wasn't the first time I had fought something this kind of demon beast, but it was annoying every time. I always had to use some trick to kill it, but it always fell for it.

Mid thought, my instincts warned me that something was coming, but I was prepared for it. Once I felt danger I released the spell circle I had made at the tip of my tail. When I did I heard a welp, then a thud.

I turned around to see the fox, whose snow-white fur was now stained red. These demon beasts weren't too tough, once you get a hit off they're usually almost dead.

I grabbed the corpse of the fox and started eating it. These days Jabel doesn't take me hunting anymore, I just go on my own. I'm pretty happy he just lets me do this because now I can train any way I want without him seeing.

Over these few months, I grew a lot, now I was two feet tall, about the size the rest of my family was. I'm still wondering how big I'll become because I'm still less than a year old. My fur also changed color, becoming bluer instead of white.

Along with that, my magic abilities also grew a lot, like how I just made a spell circle with my tail. I also figure out how to make two spell circles and once, but I don't use it too often. And since I ate so many mana cores I'm now a 6th level magician.

I finished eating the fox and stood up and was about to head to the cave, but then I saw something. A bear with white fur, like the rest of the demon beasts that live here. Looking at it I could tell it was a 9th level magican, something Jabel taught me how to do, so fighting it would definitely be a challenge.

I walked over to the bear, howling to make my presence known. It turned to look at me, releasing a roar in response to mine.

I started running to the bear preparing a spell circle that was clear in color. Once I was close enough I released the spell causing a shockwave to fire at the bear. Normally, this would throw back whatever it hit, but the bear was able to resist it, only sliding back a bit.

When the bear regained itself it launched itself forward, slamming its paw down where I stood. I was able to dodge it, but only barely. The bear didn't stop there though, swinging its other paw at me, and due to the snow its first attack threw up I didn't see it coming.

I was sent flying but quickly got back on my feet. I was just in time because the bear had rushed at me ready to attack again. I jumped back and made another spell circle.

Once I released it the area we were in was filled with white smoke that neither the bear nor I could see through. I assumed the bear would think I jumped back, so instead, I ran forward and to the left.

I guess right and the bear missed me entirely. Taking advantage of this I did something I haven't done in a while. I used an incantation to create claws of ice on my paws and slash at the bear's back leg.

The bear roared in pain and started swinging wildly in an attempt to hit me, but they were all futile. I used the cover to continue attacking the bear, though my attacks weren't doing much damage.

Soon the bear got tired of my attacks and chose to retaliate by letting out a loud roar and releasing a huge wave of cold air, blowing me back along with the smoke.

Once I landed I looked up at the bear to see it releasing light blue energy and staring at me. I was going to fire a spell at it, but then I noticed something in the sky. I looked up and saw a large number of spears of ice pointed at me.

I quickly used an incantation to make a wall of ice, but that didn't do much. Once the spears were launched at me the wall held back a few of them, but soon the wall broke.

I was able to dodge most of the spears but soon I was hit. My back was grazed, which wasn't too bad, but that did throw me off. The spears weren't faster than anything Jabel threw at me, but there were a lot of them. Not long after that, I was getting hit by more and more spears, so I had to do something soon.

While dodging the spears as best as I could, I started making a spell circle that I knew would take longer than normal to make. The bear continued to fire the spears at me, so I couldn't stay still, and since I was getting hit occasionally I nearly destroyed the spell circle a few times.

Soon the spell was finished and I activated it. Instantly, I was surrounded by a block of ice, but I didn't panic. After hitting the block of ice for a bit the bear stopped the spears and waited. After a while the ice exploded, throwing shards in all directions and I walked out.

I was now wearing armor made of ice that covered my whole body. It was my first time using the spell in battle so I had no idea how strong it was, but I had no choice but to trust it for now.

Seeing me come out of the ice the bear continued its onslaught of attacks. Even though I was now wearing armor I wasn't going to let myself get hit, but I didn't want to prolong this fight. I ran to the bear, dodging the spears as they came to me. Every once in a while a spear would hit me, but the armor would just cause them to shatter on impact.

Soon I was only a few feet away from the bear and was planning to attack, but I knew it wouldn't be that easy. I looked up to see all of the spears pointed at the spot I was about to run to. The bear, seeing me notice its surprise attack, chose to launch it then.

I jumped back in anticipation which was good because if I had been any slower I don't think the armor would've held up. Using the distance between us to launch my next attack I started making two spell circles.

I activated them both at the same time, sending me into the air above the bear. The bear was about to move, but it hadn't noticed that its paws had sunk into the ground. It was due to an earth spell that I had recently learned that partially pulled things into the ground.

Taking advantage of the bear's temporary immobility, I activated another spell circle in the air. When the spell activated, a long pole of ice came out of it and I grabbed it with my mouth. While falling I started spinning to pull the rest of it out revealing a halberd made of ice.

At this point, the bear had just pulled its paws out of the ground, but it was too late. I was right above the bear as it looked up to see the halberd crash into its head. The body of the bear was slammed down as the halberd split its head in half.

'I should try to imitate that incantation she used.'

Once I was on the ground I laid down, and the armor crumbled off of me. I knew I couldn't wait for long since the fight likely attracted other demon beasts, so once I wasn't breathing hard I started looking for the mana core of the bear.

Once I found it I ate it causing my body to be filled with energy. I stood still for a few seconds until a blast of cold energy was released from my body. I had just reached the 7th level of magician, which made me pretty happy.

After I got comfortable enough I started running back to the cave since I had been hunting for a few hours now. On the way back I didn't run into anything I couldn't scare off so I got back pretty fast.
