Tired

I lay still looking up at the ceiling and find that I'm beyond cold and tired... Fig curls up next to me and his tiny body gives off the slightest warmth. "I'm tired Fig..." I say in a soft voice. Fig presses up against me and says "I am too... we should keep moving though.. it's very cold here and we're both wet. We can't sleep here." Fig says quietly.

I smile but I don't move. "I won't do it..." I say talking about the plant Ryder wants me to grow that will kill all the humans. Fig seems to understand as he says "I know.." My smile becomes twisted as I say "Now's the time to leave Fig.. you don't have to keep going through this.. this is my cross to bear, my choice.." I say fighting back tears.

Fig's little body presses so close to me he practically becomes one with my skin as he says "No, you are my master and my family.. my only family. I'm not going anywhere.. and I like the human world.. they have good food.. good music and good humans.. I don't want them to die.." I can no longer see because of my tears so I close my eyes and say "Thank you Fig.."

I wake up and find myself in one of the softest, warmest bed I've ever felt... was it all a dream? I go to move and my body cries out in pain clearing my head. I look around the room and I don't recognize it but when my eyes land on Ryder my poor brain catches up. I glare at him and he returns it will a smile.

"You killed one of my pets.. I'll have to find a new one now." He says in a light tone. I choose not to say anything to the psycho and continue to glare. My heart drops when I don't see Fig and I start searching the sheets but breathe out in relief when I find him fast asleep. My mood sours even farther when I notice I'm clean and dressed in a long nightgown.

He notices and laughs saying "I had a few women from the bath house clean and dress you but if you are unhappy with that I'm willing to help you instead." I clench my fist and say through gritted teeth "You're insane.." His laughter dies and he takes on a sinister smile saying "In your eyes maybe.. but I'm a visionary. You will come to see that."

I return his twisted smile and say "I won't do it.. you can throw me into that hell hole over and over again but it won't change the fact that I won't help you." He looks at me thoughtfully for a moment before standing up and saying "I will have them bring you and your pet food. Remember this Syn, you either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become a villain.." he watches me a moment more before turning around and walking out.
