Johan's POV

"So let's go, then!" He heard the warden's voice behind him, full of enthusiasm.

However, Johan had already turned around to look into Blackwood's locker again.

Looking past the hole, into the stairwell inside the darkness.

With a frown, he spoke loud enough for all of them to hear.

"You go ahead, I'll check where it leads to."

"But... But they're here for you, Mr. Reed..." The warden spoke again.

"And you'll find them and tell them I'll be there." Johan was emphatic. "Meanwhile, you buy me some time. I need to see if I can find that bastard..."

No one said a word after that, as though acknowledging Johan's words.

When he stepped into the locker, though, Johan felt a small hand grabbing his, and Lauritz's voice sounding behind him.

"You'll meet us up there, right?"

Johan turned around and looked at the boy, his bright eyes covered by a slight shade of sadness.
