Chapter 1Prologue

A seizure.

At least, that's what I had assumed at first. Up until now, everything in my life had been 'normal'; it had been the typical life of a growing teenage girl. I had been a regular girl, surrounded by my peers and family. I had never thought that everything would change in the blink of an eye; I never thought that reality could be so twisted that the truth was far beyond my imagination.

And, of course, it was all a lie. My life wasn't ordinary, and I wasn't a typical teenage girl. I had seizures… Very violent attacks that would put me out of commission when they occurred. They were the type of seizures you would know was coming right at the last moment; not a thing you could do to stop it or hide away in a closet somewhere and be alone and invisible to the world so they couldn't see your body seizing and twisting in ways that seemed inhuman. I didn't want to be seen like that… to be thought of as a freak, a monster.

But that was a dangerous game to play, for seizing uncontrollably and being alone did not coincide. That could be the last thing I do in my life. Twitching and aching and feeling utterly helpless in a place I did not want to be with no one at my side.

I didn't want to be that way; I didn't want to have to hide because I felt like an abomination like I wasn't normal just because my body did things that other people's bodies didn't do. I felt like a complete outcast just because I could not keep my physical presence under control. I couldn't ever be like them; do the things they did and live the lives they do. There would always be that threat in the back of my mind, it could happen at any second of any day, and I just wouldn't ever be able to predict it. If I were ever to do something a little risky or dangerous, my chances of getting hurt… or dying… were higher than theirs… because they would not have that chance of collapsing and losing control of their entire world.

A sense of normalcy, I had craved it with my entire being – I had just wanted to be normal like the rest of them. I wanted people to like me and not snicker behind my back, knowing I could hear them; call me things like "nose-bleed." What had I done in another life to deserve such a curse? My parents had tried to be supportive, but I knew that I would never be anything but a nuisance and an annoyance. I knew my life caused them nothing but grief and empty pockets. There was no benefit to having a daughter like me…

How much better off would my family be without me? How much better off would everyone be? I disrupted classes with my uncontrollable outbursts of shivering and flailing that almost always ended with me crashing into something. I just wanted to poof out of existence. I just wanted to not be a burden any longer. I just wanted to not wake up in a hospital, not have pain, and not be looked at as if I were a disgusting pile of garbage; I just wanted to be me, without all the bad.

I just wanted to start over and be born someone new. I tried to forget.

I could not understand why I had to suffer. I could not understand why no one could love me. I could not understand why I was so outcast-ed for something I had no control over. I didn't want to seize. I didn't want to quiver and quake and scare everyone. I didn't want my nose to bleed or my eyes to roll up into my head. I did not...

I could not control that...

And I was sorry for it.

Caring for Mr. Mutant

[COMPLETED] How can a Mutant and a Mutant Caretaker fight for their love, if science is their greatest enemy? ------------------------ Year 2023: Random DNA mutations suddenly occurred around the world. These mutations caused newborn babies to acquire animal traits, and no one knows why or where they originated. Year 2033: When funds, advanced technology, and a capable workforce became available to study these mutants, a national team of scientists was formed, called the "DNA Mutation Cadre" or "D.M. Cadre". They were given modern, state-of-the-art laboratories complete with equipment and isolation rooms. Here, mutants were studied and monitored in exchange for a large sum of money and government assistance. Year 2048: In the busy city of Makylee, a 25-year-old part-timer, Lia Brentvale, got fired from her two part-time jobs in just one unlucky day. Since her parents aren’t around, she’s the breadwinner of her family, providing for her two college brothers. She applied as a Mutant Caretaker in the D.M. Cadre Research Facility and after passing their exam, she was assigned to the mysterious and aloof vulture mutant. But as she got to know him, she also learned more about D.M. Cadre. Together with her hacker friend and their batchmates, they tried to uncover the deep secrets that lie within the research facility. ------------------------ PREVIEW: Aesop had always felt that being a mutant is a curse. But upon meeting Lia, he started accepting himself. Lia was always pointing out his strong points. She was always encouraging him to enhance his skills and discover his talents. She always tells him not to think of himself as a test subject just like how the scientists treat him. She reassured him that even though he's a mutant, he's not less than a person, so he shouldn't look down on himself. It was her uplifting words and her mere existence that gave color to his monochrome life. "Lia… I love you," Aesop uttered as his golden eyes stared through her deep blue eyes. "Ae, I… I love you, too," Lia then wrapped her arms around Aesop's neck, drawing in close to him. Aesop's hands slid down to Lia's lower back, and he embraced her. Their heartbeats quicken as their lips graze against each other. Lia thought it would be just a simple kiss, just like they had always done after their very first kiss, but she was wrong. Aesop's right hand suddenly caressed her back, then he placed it at the back of her head, pulling her to him with a little force. The vulture mutant's majestic wings enveloped them, and it was as if he was owning her. Aesop's wet tongue slid into her mouth, and it surprised her. She tried to resist, but with his hand at the back of her head, she couldn't get away from him. Eventually, she gave in to that passionate kiss...
