Another Perspective (part 2)

She kept her eyes on her teammates as they one by one landed on the narrow square helipad roof. Soon after, she landed and quickly started to remove her chute before she felt a tug and a powerful gust of wind washed the air. The flapping of her chute quickly expanded and her body was yanked into the air. Shit! Cara was getting dragged towards the edge of the roof. She thought fast and quickly pulled her knife out and cut the cords off her shoulders and chest. Her motion came to a complete stop the moment she broke free. The chute flew away into the dark night.

She laid there on the roof for a second, as Kyle rushed over, "Captain! You good?"

She gave a nod with her eyes closed. The moment she opened them she noticed a hand on her shoulder. She followed the hand to see that Carlos had a grip on her to prevent her from being flown away. She assumed that was why was dragged on the ground. The older man gave her a smile and spoke up in his thin accent, "Gotta be weary for hard winds. We're on a tower in an archipelago. Need to be more careful," his hand left her shoulder strap and he stood and packed his chute.

Cara stood up and spoke as she removed the chute's vest, "Thank you for the help, Oliveira."

"Call me Carlos," he said with a rather cocky tone, "And any time, chica."

her kind expression simmered to an annoyed grin, "Call me Cara, Amber, or Captain... Please, don't call me a chica."

Carlos chuckled and gave an apologetic shrug before he studied her team who had finished stuffing their chutes as well. He gave her a glance to have her give a command to her teams. He knew he was not the captain here but did she? Cara looked at her team and saw them checking their weapons. She did the same right after. made sure everything was still armed and equipped.

She checked her pistol as she spoke up, "OK, listen! The extraction point is the front door on the bottom level! We need to detect and irradicate all BOWs and retrieve this male!" she pulled her smartphone out and showed the image of Steve that her lieutenant gave her, "This male is our priority and must be rescued. Being one of the youngest survivors of an incident that had him declared dead. I read the report of Rockfort Island. Steve was strong then and probably strong now. Chances are he will run from us. We need to show no aggression to him," the team huddled and studied the picture and gave a nod. They all were listening and understood, it seemed.

Cara then pointed at the elevator, "We have seventy-two hours to kill every unliving thing in this building before the place gets raided by BSAA officials. We will start on the top floor. Anything that doesn't breathe and moves, you take out. Understood?"

Her team gave a nod as Carlos studied them once more. Carla felt a bit annoyed that the man was not even going to participate with them. At that moment, he just felt like a critic of her strategy of being a team leader.

She shook her head and focussed on her team, "Faulton, take lead! I'll back the sides along with Summers. Carlos! Tucker! You two will cover our six."The two older boys look at Cara and gave a confirming nod.

Todd walked ahead to the elevator. He pressed the button next to the elevator but of course, nothing happened. Todd then slipped his fighting knife into the gap between the doors and it gave enough space for some fingers. Cara slipped her gun to her back and quickly grabbed the left door as Todd gripped the right one and both pried the doors open until the mechanism gave away and the doors stood open.

Carlos aimed his gun to the doorway but there was no elevator. Chances were that it was on the bottom. Carlos Flipped the flashlight attached to his carbine and examined the innards of the elevator shaft. his light found a ladder, "There," he said, "We can go down with the ladder."

Cara gave a nod and pointed her flashlight at the ladder, "Tucker, take lead. You'll be the one who can open an elevator in such a tight and narrow space."

Tucker looked at his captain and gave a nod. He found no point in arguing it seemed. He was a muscular male and had little to fight over, to begin with. He's done this before, he can do it again.

He walked over and grabbed the bars of the ladder and spoke softly, "Keep the light ahead 'uh-me."

"Got it!" Cara spoke up as he made sure to keep her light ahead of the direction of where Tucker had gone.

Tucker met the next door. It looked to have some blood slowly seep its way out. The blood looked stained to the steel of the door. He pulled an extra blade out that was originally for his ballistic knife and pried it to the gap of the doors. Tucker then firmly placed the heel of his boot to the blade and kicked, firmly. The one side of the door shot wide open to reveal a decaying body that had been leaning on the door this whole time. Quickly, it leaned back and fell. The whole team had gritted teeth in the hopes that the body would somehow not make much sound. It took a second for the body to crash onto the elevator's roof at the bottom of the shaft.

Tucker's head instinctively sunk below his shoulders after hearing how the loud thud of the body as it echoed through the shaft. He slowly tilted his head up to look at his captain. Cara had a look of sheer displeasure before she spoke up, "Faulton, Me, Carlos, then Summers," she said as she reached for Todd and shoved him to the ladder. Quickly todd went down the ladder and met the Tucker who had entered the hall past the half-opened door. Cara went down, Carlos and Tucker followed her.

Once she had entered the top floor she had noticed the amount of dried and slightly molded blood scattered across the plain white tiled halls. There were three directions. Each one looked as if they met up at their ends. Cara stood and saw a nearby zombie waddling by. The smell alone on the floor told her just how many they were going to face.

She pressed the laser sight from her AR and aimed. Once the red dot met the zombie's head she fired. Her rifle made a suppressed bang and the explosion of the decaying head echoed louder across the halls. The body fell limp and lifeless. she lowered her weapon and spoke, "OK. we have plenty of time to be patient with this operation. This facility is not too large for a full sweep. We clear this floor and then head to the next. We don't have to get too flashy," she spoke calmly as she checked for any jamming in her assault rifle, "Faulton, you're with me. Carlos, stick with Summers. Tucker, can you handle being by yourself?"

Tucker had his carbine in hand as he spoke to Cara with a grin, "Yes ma'am!"

Cara gave a nod and faced the left hall as Todd stood next to her with his assault rifle checked and ready, "Alright then. Let's get to sweeping," with that, She and Todd walked on ahead to the left hall as Carlos and Kyle took the right. Tucker simply handled his gun as he walked down the hall straight ahead of the elevator doors.

Cara expected this mission to be done by the end of the night and for it to not take as long as seventy-two hours. She has been wrong before, though.
