Taming The Golden Hound – Pt. 3/3

Half an hour later, the trio returned to the residential estate.

The unit had been pillaged by those thugs and was no longer fit to stay. The incident was a warning to Lin Chao; he was always out hunting and could hardly take care of Lin Shiyu. He could only send her to the base city where there should not be any danger under Chu Shanhe's care.

He had this consideration of sending Lin Shiyu to the base city during this period of time.

When the world had just entered the apocalypse, the army was divided; people were fighting to be the sole power and the competition was fierce, resorting to all sorts of measures. Lin Chao was unwilling to be swept under this chaotic whirlpool, thus denying Chu Shanhe's invitation and not asking him to take Lin Shiyu to the army, because he did not want her to fall victim to the power game!

Giving Lin Shiyu a few instructions later, both of them packed what they needed. Lin Chao's baggage was simple, other than the small black box, there were two maps. Lin Shiyu was a girl, after all, filling up a suitcase despite constantly tossing unnecessary items; there were a few bottles of drinking water and underwear for rotation, as well as family photos and other priceless possessions.

When they came to the ground floor, Fan Xiangyu took the initiative to instruct a zombie to take the suitcase from Lin Shiyu and carry it to prevent the rolling wheels from attracting any zombie.

Just as the group arrived at the residential entrance, a low growl came from behind. Lin Chao turned back to see a darting golden silhouette coming to a stop about ten meters away from them, looking at him with bared teeth and deep snarls. It was the Golden Hound that roamed the residential estate.

Seeing that it did not pounce immediately, Lin Chao was a little surprised and turned to ask Fan Xiangyu, "Can you control it?"

"Let me try." Fan Xiangyu closed her eyes swiftly then opened them a moment later with an unusual expression playing on her face. "Do you have a grudge with it?"

"Hmm?" Lin Chao frowned.

"I can't control it but I can communicate with it. It asked me to leave you just now or else it'll attack me too. It also said that you won't save yourself even if you hide behind me." Fan Xiangyu translated carefully.

Lin Chao was quite amused. Flexing his wrists, he said, "Move away."

Fan Xiangyu took a sympathetic glimpse at the Golden Hound then moved away immediately.

The Golden Hound felt the inexplicable oppression disappearing when Fan Xiangyu left, howling in ecstasy before it charged toward Lin Chao as fast as a bolt of lightning.

Lin Chao's eyes glinted. The Golden Hound's physique nearly doubled within days, at least eight times stronger than a human now and approaching the level of the Peril Strain. It was no wonder that it was so confident.

Did it want revenge? Having his eyes attached to the Golden Hound's sprinting form, Lin Chao's vision could catch its movement clearly; he moved abruptly, his ten-times speed leaving a realistic shadow of him on the spot.

Like a golden flash, the Golden Hound pounced at the shadow. Before it could howl in excitement, it felt a fist so powerful, like a hammer crashing against the top of its head.

Pow!

Its body fell from midair!

Lin Chao grabbed one of its back legs and swung it against the cement floor.

Ow…

The Golden Hound howled in pain, humanly fear colored its eyes.

Seeing that the canine had completely lost its strength after being swung and smashed a few times, Lin Chao let go of its leg and asked Fan Xiangyu, "What does it say?"

Although Fan Xiangyu expected no less from Lin Chao, she was astonished. When she broke out of her daze, she looked sympathetically at the Golden Hound and said, "It asked for your mercy and asked me to plead with you, hoping that you won't kill it."

The Golden Hound nodded fervently and stared at Lin Chao dolefully.

Lin Chao's brow arched. "You can understand the human language?"

The Golden Hound nodded and picked up its paw with its tongue stuck out whilst huffing warm puffs of air before it licked Lin Chao's shoes in a servile manner.

Lin Chao could not help rolling his eyes when he saw its obsequious manner. He took out the small black box and said, "I'll give you a mission. If you can track this box's location, I'll let you go."

Taking a glimpse at the black box and sniffing it as if tasting the box's scent, the Golden Hound nodded after some time.

Lin Chao patted its head. "Then we depart now. Lead the way in front and don't think about escaping. I'll break your legs otherwise."

The hound now turned obedient dog took another pitiful peek at him and licked his shoes twice to show his subservience before prancing in front to show the way.

A strange team made up of three people, a dog, and three zombies set out.

Two hours later, they were brought to a dim alley. The Golden Hound growled lowly twice at the wall toward the right and Fan Xiangyu spoke, "It said that what you want to find is there."

Lin Chao extended his arm to touch the wall in front lightly.

Swoosh!

A ripple was made when his palm touched the wall. His hand went straight into the wall too, before a suction formed from the palm and Lin Chao was involuntarily sucked inside.

His vision blacked out before he could see again.

Lin Chao was standing in a spacious silvery-white hall. Before he could study the place, an icy voice rang in his head, "Entry condition not matched. Please come again when Level E Evolved is achieved."

Then, Lin Chao felt like he knocked against a wall of soft cotton as he uncontrollably leaned back.

Two steps later, he was back to the outside of the wall again. The big silvery-white hall was gone. He was in the dark rotten alley once more.

'There's an entry condition. Could it be a high level ruins?' Lin Chao contemplated looking at the wall. Any living creature could enter the usual ruins, even a tiny weak ant, but an ant infected by the virus had nothing to do with being tiny or weak of course.

Lin Shiyu and Fan Xiangyu were completely astounded by what had just happened. Lin Shiyu could not help asking, "Lil Chao, you know how to go through walls?"

Amused, Lin Chao explained the ruins to her. He did not refrain from speaking in front of Fan Xiangyu as all the survivors would see the ruins when they entered the base city era; it would be the survival of the fittest then.

"You aren't even qualified to enter the ruins with your ability. I wonder what's inside of the ruins…" Fan Xiangyu's gaze burning when she studied the wall.

Lin Chao was equally interested but it was no moment to waste time. He must evolve again into Level E Evolved; otherwise, who knew when the ruins entrance would disappear?

Coming to a shop with a rolling shutter door nearby, Lin Chao asked Fan Xiangyu to subdue the two zombies in the shop and raided all the electrical appliances inside. He disassembled useful parts and reassembled them swiftly into an Organism Detector.

'The frequency last time was one hundred and attracted the Peril Strain. That's probably the only Peril Strain in the city or even this province. I'll adjust it to sixty this time, it should be able to draw some special zombies over.'

Lin Chao wore the watch-like Organism Detector on his wrist and left. He was a Level F MultiEvolved now; he would not wait for a special zombie to come knocking at his door, he had to go hunting proactively.

Before he embarked on this, Lin Chao first came to a relatively isolated residential area and cleared out a building so that Lin Shiyu could stay at the highest level. He then asked Fan Xiangyu to guard her safety and left with the Golden Hound with a city map.

Studying the map, Lin Chao easily saw a green symbol that marked the zoo in the neighboring area. He memorized the route and asked the Golden Hound to follow him, their destination - the zoo!

The zoo was undoubtedly a dangerous land of restriction during the virus outbreak as all species of animal would turn into a berserk, bloodthirsty mutated beasts that even a Level E Special Evolved dared not simply enter.
